It's along the lines of the old club captain type situation, where you have a 35 year old Robbo as captain when he's out there, which isn't that often late career.

In the case of Casemiro, he clearly went through the ball and into the man. Studs up so that's the basis of the red card for Casemiro, but the challenges by Casemiro and Lamela were completely different, the latter making no attempt on the ball whatsoever, but Lamela only gets a yellow.

Attempting to play the ball is a secondary concern when deciding if it's a red or not, it's the force of the impact that will be the decider most of the time, and Lamela clearly holds his foot and doesn't follow through with weight. While it was a pretty harsch red for Casemiro, this one was most certainly a yellow.

You can't compare Bryan Robson with Maguire.
Robson was a talisman, so when he was on the pitch, he was rightfully captain.
