    Watching on bein.

Jason McAteer reckons the defender didn't deliberately play the ball to Weghorst so that's why it's not a goal.

He's deliberately played the ball, doesn't matter where the feck it goes after.

I think we've been fine. Not ponderous, zipped the ball around decently. End of the day it is not easy to score against any competent side that are set up like this.

Finishing has been very poor but we are playing well otherwise. Matter of time before we score.

dont remember when is the last time we swarmed a team like this!

This feels like the ref is there to create a 'magic of the FA cup' moment. Both of those calls are idiotic. Ball isn't played to Weghorst for the first one and when he does get the ball from the defender he is onside. If the penalty is given then the incident would be interpreted as got the ball but went through the man to get it. But now since it wasn't given it'll be parroted as minimal contact, not a foul etc. The rules are just there for the officials to interpret as they see fit and they change them game to game. It's getting on my nerves.

Now that the rant is over, apart from Maguire and Lindelof not moving the ball quickly like Martinez and Malacia having a shocker at the end, we've been decent. The rain isn't helping with the precision of our passing and everyone forgetting their shooting boots isn't helping either. But we're dominating possession and creating half chances every few minutes and it's only a matter of time until the dam breaks.

    It wasn't technically correct though.

Weghorst WAS standing offside, but the ball is played to Fernandes. The defender then clears the pass away, but it loops up in the air.

by the defender playing the ball that then makes Weghorst back onside. How else do you think people are onside when defenders back pass to their keeper etc?
The pass was intended for Weghorst, that's why he's offside, that it didn't reach him isn't relevant

Weird first half. Clear goal not given, finishing is poor as feck too

He literally clears the ball, its in your own wording doofus.

Just because he fecks the clearance up and spoons it into the air? whats the difference?

Some of you are so obtuse it's unreal
Clear the foam from your mouth or you'll be getting points soon. He is not in complete control of the ball. That's what is now required by the rule to make a player onside.

Yeah that was very odd that!
It's like they try to explain things like we're school kids and don't know the rules ourselves.

Oh yes "clearly the right decision". Wtf was the host even talking about? are they trying to say if Weghorst heads it across and a defender touches it then, that would be ok? makes zero sense.

We’ve done alright, just not creative enough in those final moments. Just a bit toothless. Expect us to win but it would have been lovely to have put it to bed nice and early.

It's incredible how much they're trying to explain why it's right we don't get decisions. If this happened the other way, and Reading had a goal chalked off after one of our defenders kicked the ball, they would be crying about it for the next week.

Yeah the literally have no one up front, which is why it's been easy to camp in their half

Struggling to be enthused by this Reading low block in the Manchester drizzle.

Antony seems to have come alive!

Let’s put this game to bed and get the subs on.

Jason McAteer is as thick as p*gsh*t, always has been, even his teammates thought so.

We continue to be abysmal when it comes to scoring. 79%, 15 shots, 2 on target, 0 goals. Against Reading at home. Dire.
To be fair Reading haven’t come to OT to play football. All eleven in their own half most of the time. With Andy Carroll playing like a DM.

He deliberately put his leg back to block so clearly wrong decision. Mikkel Bishop (former City player) just pointed this out on Danish tv and your link confirms that. Not the gotcha you clearly thought
Why should I care what Danish TV says?

calling it one of those "Old Trafford decisions"

Please explain what I don't understand?
If the defender makes an attempt to play the ball the phase resets you fool.
The pass was intented for Weghorst who was offside, that happens before the attempt to play the ball

I'll stop foaming when it finally gets into your brain  It's like arguing with a 5 year old.

Nothing in the wording you've just posted says anything about complete control. I will never agree with you on this, as we have LITERAL VIDEO PROOF of a goal that was scored a month ago that was allowed. If you're happy being screwed that's on you.

Could really do with blowing them away at the start of the second half. Would be fuming at even the prospect of a replay against these.

That’s not part of the rule and the link you posted even says that.

Just keep it up. There’s very little chance they’re going to able to stick out unless they’re extremely lucky if we continue what we’ve been doing in the first half. They’re going to be fecked by the 70th minute.

There's some mass psychosis going on at ITV tonight. They are totally incorrect about the offside and also for the pen appeal it seemed like he went right through the back of his legs to get his 'touch on the ball', but apparently it's so obviously the correct decision that it was a 'waste of VAR time' according to Dixon and not even worth showing a replay of at HT.
