I keep asking @Niall to increase the 5 goals option but no reaction

Someone's going to get a pasting even if it's not this match

Flood every modmin's inbox. That oughta do the trick. :D

We should be dropping all the dross but you just know one or two of them are going to get in, probably Fletcher and Valencia.

I really would love to see a line-up without Fletcher, Valencia, Young and Rooney.

Same, my predicted line up doesn't include any of them hopefully van gaal is thinking on my level so we don't have to see them. I want ALL our new signings to start the match, I don't want them on the bench to be integrated slowly and all that rubbish. They start and finish the game

    de Gea
    Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
    Herrera-Blind-Di Maria
    Mata-Falcao-Januzaj

Haven't heard anything on Mata yet. The way he limped off didn't look too pretty, and hamstrings aren't always the best to recover.

If he is out, that'd make the selection a bit easier for Van Gaal, as he could even do the VP-Falcao strike partnership, with Rooney just behind.

Rooney seems to play too deep normally anyway, so might as well start there and be done with it.

    So maybe

    DE GEA
    JONES ROJO

    RAFAEL BLIND SHAW
    HERRERA DI MARIA

    ROONEY

    FALCAO VAN PERSIE

This would be fairly brave though, as that's 4 new signings first games, not to mention others making only their second!

EDIT .......... my word I completely forgot about Di Maria!!!!! Ok let's lose the third centre back, put Blind there, and use Di Maria in mid again

So much positivity after deadline day, we need to carry this momentum forward and beat QPR convincingly (we should be doing that anyway).

'Momentum' is a very important and I hope that translates to the pitch starting against QPR. Woody has gone above and beyond when anyone expected and i'm really hoping this game is the start point to turn Old Trafford into a fortress again.

I can't wait....but its still so tar away hehe

The people dropping Mata from their lineups and keeping Di Maria or Rooney in his place are seriously under-estimating his potential. Mata is a brilliant playmaker who will thrive in the role of linking the midfield and generating defence-splitting passes to our amazing attack.

The reason Mata wasn't able to perform to the best of his ability was the lack of CMs who could retain possession and ball-playing defenders. I have huge expectations of Blind, Herrera and Rojo to do those tasks. I think that will be the key for us this season as if the three of them are able to retain possession and build-up play from the back then Mata will not be expected to track back and can showcase his attacking prowess.

What can Mata do when players like Blackett play hoofball to the strikers or side-pass Cleverly is incapable of building up play. Fletcher has failed miserable in the CDM role so far and that has severely increased pressure on our defense while also reducing the delivery to our forward line. This has meant Rooney has had to come back into the midfield and left Mata with a half-fit RVP and some really poor wingers to pass to (i.e. provided he got a decent opportunity to create an attacking play).

Compare that now with Di Maria and Januzaj as potential wingers who are capable of making the intelligent runs into the box and strikers or the quality of Rooney, Falcao and RVP (fully fit) to take advantage of the opportunities. IMO Daley Blind has the most critical role of providing cover to defense and building play with Rojo.

Anyways long story short, Play Mata.

    de Gea
    Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
    Januzaj- Herrera-Blind-Di Maria
    -----------Mata-
    ---------------Falcao-

I've got a lot of confidence in a Herrera-Blind midfield, but I can't shake the feeling that Sandro will still somehow dominate them. That'll piss me off, no end.

Thread title says Niall started this discussion on the 22nd of July. Glitch?

Nope. He made all threads for the season on that day and they're hidden in another forum. When one match finishes, the next thread is moved to this forum and can be seen by all.

Says it every game. I miss the fancy OP's with the badges.

I'll be working on that some time next week. Not too hard to do.

    @golden_blunder

It's just that I think in Herrera and Blind, we may potentially have a mid-field that can get the best out of our attack. However, I've always loved United playing with our fast wingers like Giggs, Ronaldo, Nani and feel Januzaj would be much better suited than a Valencia or Young.

But you're right, with these summer signings, Januzaj may not be a regular starter and we might see the team lining up more like

    ------------De Gea-------
    -Rafael--Jones--Rojo--Shaw
    -----------Blind-----------
    ----Herrera---- Di Maria----
    ----------Mata-----------
    ----Rooney/RVP----Falcao
with a midfield diamond against weaker midfields or a flat three in the middle against stronger opposition.

I just dont like the idea of Rooney playing in Mata's role

    Exactly what I would play.

    Let the discussions begin...
If I could be a bit forthcoming and cut straight to the point, can Niall get someone to make a 'match day' template to throw in the OP. Time and date and maybe any injuries etc.

This site used to be great for the match day thread info and I came here a lot in the build up to games. This new match day thread system isn't as good for that imo. Not trying to be an arse just trying to give some feedback.

Time and date is at the top right of the page. The time is local.
For some reason on my phone and tablet it doesn't show up, it may be covered by something. I was thinking like the previous match day threads with the logo's and info etc.

Thanks Damien, my feedback has been noted and that is fine enough for me!

Can you PM me a screenshot of what it looks like on your phone and tablet?

The first post of the match day threads does need improving, I definitely need to look into that.

Surely we are due a win now?
If we don't win this one, there's serious issues. A draw would be unacceptable...a loss would cause absolute meltdown on here.

I'm confident with Herrera, Shaw and Rafael back in that we'll have a comfortable win. Even without signing Di Maria and Falcao I would have believed that, so we should finally get that first win!

I will be praying that Fletcher doesn't start. I love the guy, but he's just not up to it

Updated the OP. Is that better for you?
I wasn't trying to have a go! I just wanted to give some feedback on the old/new comparison. Thanks for taking the time to address it and it is appreciated!

Again, nothing personal on RedCafe! Just feedback. Thanks as well Niall for addressing it.

    -----------------de gea------------------
    rafael------jones---------rojo---------shaw
    -----------------blind--------------------
    --------herrera----------di maria----------
    ------------------rooney----------------
    -------rvp-----------------falcao---------

i'll probably try this line up but unlikely to happen though. still hoping that both rafael and shaw are back and to be available for selection at the very least. i reckon we will be much better when both of them are playing. valencia and young are no wing or fullbacks for sure.

playing with 3 CBs could be a good idea against stronger oppositions eventhough the system is still alien to our players. but a home game, QPR as the opponents? i mean common we should be fine with a back 4 here (:nervous::nervous:)

What i would like to see -

    -----------------De gea------------------
    Rafael------Jones---------Evans------Shaw
    -----------------Blind--------------------
    --------------------Herrera---------------
    Januzaj----------Mata-------------Di Maria
    -----------------Falcao------------------

The 3 behind Falcao all interchanging quick will create so many chances for Falcao as focal point. Di Maria gets a free role too going everywhere.

Failing which something like this would be Good too -

    -----------------de gea------------------
    Rafael------Jones---------Evans---------Shaw
    -----------------Blind--------------------
    --------Herrera----------Di maria----------
    -----------------Mata----------------------
    -------Rooney---------------Falcao---------

What we will see however probably is some form of 3-5-2 again. No idea in that who will go where though and who will be left out.

Over half of these predicted line ups have 4 at the back (hell I've seen far too many 4-4-2 for my liking as well), its 3 at the back, get used to it.

I think we'll be going with 4 at the back very soon. One of the reasons I think this is because we let M. Keane go on loan to Burnley, leaving us with only 5 CBs, which is one too few to play 3 at the back regularly, especially given the injury-proneness of Jones, Evans and Smalling.

5 is enough to cover 3 positions but we have 6. Blackett, Rojo, Evans, Smalling, Jones, Rojo is plenty, Keane was behind them all in the pecking order.

Will be visiting OT after ages, can't wait!. Last games i went to were Liverpool(2-1, Jan 2013) and Arsenal(8-2) :D

    Heart: about 6-0 to Utd
Head: takes a while to click but the team starts to look good in the second half, 2-1 Utd
Really hoping not but part of me is kind of expecting: Di Maria twists an ankle getting off the team bus and is out for the rest of the season. Replaced in the match day squad by Ashley Young. Herrera, Shaw and Blind all pick up knocks early on and are replaced by Fletcher, Anderson and Valencia. QPR to nick a goal late and win 1-0.
