They absolutely should. Will be a negative against LVG for me if they don't. They are all in and around the first team. If you cannot use them even for these cup games when are they going to be used?

For me if he doesn't use them he cannot then come out and say the players are in red zone.

Should is very different from would.
Last round against Ipswich we named an experienced squad full of players that needed minutes, rather than lots of youth players. After MK Dons last year I just don't think LVG will start with all three. I'm sure they'll all make appearances but, Memphis, Fellaini, Young etc are more likely to feature.

    My team

    ----------------------Romero-------------
    Varela----Fosu-Mensah-----Blind------Borthwick-Jackson

    ---------------Fellaini-----Carrick------------------

    Lingard-----------Periera--------------Depay

    -------------------Wilson----------------------
The defense would never ever happen. Not only they palyed last u21 game, it's massively risky to completely change the back four. It will be complete opposite in my view. LVG will defo want to stick to solid defense which suffered a big blow after Shaw injury and needs to settle now. Rojo will most likely start as he's getting into form and needs minutes. Jones only came back so he will most certanly play too and it should be Smalling again because you just need tht experience to avoid a shocker like with Dons.. on the right it will be either Darmian or McNair.

Althought Blind will most likely get a time on the pitch being Van Gaal's favourite so now it's two decisions to be made Blind as CB next to more solid Smalling or quite shaky Jones but it's Nugent they are coming against so it shall be okay either if Van Gaal opts for Rojo as CB and Blind on the left..

I don't see fellaini playing in midfield although he deserves start after his good cameos lately.. I would actually go for Herrera playing deeper a bit further than Carrick though and Pereira being the most advanced midfielder..
YOur front four is actually the same as mine but I don't thing that Willo will be ready to start a game as he was out with illness or injury don't remember correctly.. in this case it should be Martial to lead the line again to gain some confidence in his best, central role. Or who nows maybe we'll see Memphis up front, it's actually a good shout as he needs game time and looks like it's Rooney he challenges for game time (not dirrectly of course so far)

It's a great opportunity to bench Rooney, without him being much pissed and "losing the dressing room". All the players playing in positions Rooney's "able" to play should have a blinder to bench him for good.

I hope Jesse has a good game, now it's time for him to show us something creative.

Concerning Varela, I am really sad he hasn't got a single chance in the first team, he's got better potential than Darmian but perhaps he's too Rafael-esque for LVG's liking. it's really a shae and it would actually be good to have some exiting talent to enter the fight on the right with Valencia and Darmian..

The difference is this is a home game and LVG has realized (possibly learnt his lesson after the collapse vs. Arsenal) that many of his players are in the "red zone" and need to be rested with the packed schedule ahead.

You can quote me on but Varela has absolute no chance to make it at the first team. Not because he's not talented but he came to United too late with virtually no first team experience and from a completely different football environment that would always count against him.Plus his lack of physicality would always make the step up harder.Reid has better chance to make it though still not likely.

I could be wrong but I really don't expect a team of youngsters.

We should be trying to win this trophy, same as we did in '06, and build on it.

I think it's probable that 2/3 of Lingard, Pereira & Wilson will start but very unlikely that all 3 will.

Martial will start up top, Memphis on the left maybe Pereira & Lingard in the middle and on the right respectively, with Carrick & Schneiderlin behind. Then Wilson can replace Martial, Young & Fellaini to replace Lingard & Carrick.

Just my opinion but I think we should try Martial and Wilson together in whatever combination LVG prefers. It looks to me that they could be deadly together with their pace, skills and mobility.

    I'd play this.

    Wilson
    Memphis - Mata - Pereira/Lingard
    Carrick - Afro
    Blind - Rojo - Jones - Darmian
    DDG

Keep Rooney, Smalling and Morgan out of the squad and at least have Martial, BFS, and Herrera on the bench if we need reinforcements, but I'd hope some kids can get some time. Shame about McNair I'd love to see him start this.

Rest Smalling, Martial and Schweinsteiger, start Lingard and Pereira and I'd be happy with whatever the rest is.

Can see why this wasn't picked for TV much like us Karanka and his side aren't the most exciting from what i've seen, decent team though 1-0 or 2-0 united seems most likely.

It'll be a blend of strength and youth.

    Something like:

    Martial
    Memphis Herrera Lingard
    Schneiderlin - Carrick
    Blind - Rojo - Jones - Darmian
    DDG

Keep changing my team selection. Unsure weather LVG will start Rooney or not. Rooney could do with a break and lvg said some of his players are tired, but resting him could spur some bad media headlines and talking points which clearly get to lvg. I think he starts him and then Wilson comes in for him at about the hour mark. Plus it's probably best to have some experience in front of what is a young attacking trio I have predicted behind him. Hard one this to predict.

Is that really a blend? Looks like a senior side with one youth player to me. Martial's young but he's also a concrete first-teamer, and despite being dropped for a couple of games Depay can hardly be considered a second-stringer.

    ------------De Gea-----------

    -Young--Jones-Blind----Rojo-

    Lingard-Carrick-Herrera-Depay-
    ---------------Perreira---------------
    ---------------Wilson-----------------

Prediction:5-0 Wilson 2, Depay, Herrera, Perreira, Blind

A youth player on the right, a young player brought back into the team after being dropped and a young striker being given the chance to lead the line instead of being played wide.

    21 - 19 - 22

I meant to say that I think Pereira will get a sub appearance too but the emphasis was in the point that we will play youth in a strong XI rathernthan doing something daft like pairing Herrera with Carrick and playing Fellaini at 10.

Rest Martial, Rooney etc Play the squad players, youngsters.

Top 4 of Lingard, Pereira, Memphis, Wilson will be greate to watch

I'd like to see Martial on top with Pereira/Memphis as LW and Lingard on the RW. I wonder if there's any chance of Sean Goss will get some playtime today? What you guys think?

I have no idea what to do with the line up game today!

    Ended up with this:

    de Gea

    Darmian
    Jones
    Blind
    Rojo

    Carrick
    Fellaini

    Lingard
    Pereira
    Depay

    Rooney

Nah, from the youngsters it's more likely that we'll see some of, if not all, Wilson, Pereira and Lingard.

Fair enough, so you literally meant youth as in 'young' not as in 'Manchester United youth players.' Which, when I write it like that, seems kind of obvious. :nervous:

I'd hope for more youngsters, myself, Wilson and Pereira in particular. But I'd certainly take anything that doesn't see loads of fringe senior players like Fellaini and Young crammed in out of position.

Im assuming Martial won't play. LVG spoke about players being in the red zone and he's got to be near it after playing every game(?) since he's joined. However, i think he will start him anyway because of trying to field a team strong enough to win comfortably but i would prefer Wilson to be given an opportunity to start infront of lingard, pereira and memphis. Part of me also thinks fellaini will start ahead of pereira as he also needs games and is more senior to him. A deeper role for fellaini perhaps?

I subscribe to a network that's showing the game but due to foreseen circumstances I'll miss most of the game. Is there a site that is likely to upload the whole game after it has been played? If you know of anything please PM me.

I'm on the East Coast. Anyone know if the game is being shown on telly? If not, if someone could pm me a link to a river, I'd be grateful.

Can't see us playing too many youngsters, probably only Lingard and Pereira with other first teamers being rotated. The game against Ipswich more or less confirms our ambitions with regards to this trophy. We won't be treating Boro lightly.

De Gea; Darmian; Jones; Rojo; Blind; Carrick; Fellaini; Young; Pereira; Lingard; Memphis.

Nope, Sky opted for the Pool vs Bournemouth game. I'm not sure you'll be able to find a stream for this. The Ipswich game was shown only by Arabic channels for some reason.

I was told its on Bein sports if you have it. I also know Im getting it on ESPN from my cable feed.

    "Rest."

    "Rotation"

"Let's play 18 year old that's have never kicked a ball before."

Both. I exaggerate a tad at the last one, but Van Gaal will play a strong team tonight and rightly so, possibly giving rest to players that have played every game (Smalling), or are genuinely in need of a night off (Bastian).

This team needs to win a trophy together, Van Gaal will want towin this competition and he'll be a lot more concerned with that as opposed to picking up brownie points by virtue of giving youngsters games in a mish-mash eleven.

We should play our best team and go for the win.

If we are winning, then we can rest some key players or just keep passing the ball around sideways in the back (you see ... the philosophy has obvious advantages! ).

Just thought about something, is the MUTV radio commentary available for subscribers outside of the UK? I'll get to watch the game so I have no need for it, just curious.

would love a midfield 3 of ander, fellaini and carrick...just like last season.

Foward line of Young,Martial and Lingard

I do like the sound of that, perhaps Wilson or Pereira could get a start in there as an alternative.

Ah, but surely Depay will start this game.

Some of you are in for a nasty shock tonight....

Boro are no pushover. In the recent past, they've gone to City and battered them and were very unlucky not to win at Anfield. They're also our bogey team!

Meanwhile, LvG is already saying we're running on empty and it's not even November.

If we win, it'll be a very hard fought victory

    4-0 cruiser then.

A Memphis-Pereira-Lingard trio would be great.

How many tickets were they allocated? Can see them making up most of the atmosphere if it's anything over 6k.

I'm not worried much. We will probably play experienced (enough) defence + Carrick so the defensive side of the game will be ok. The attack... well I don't have high expectations anyway.
