    My team

    ----------------------Romero-------------
    Varela----Fosu-Mensah-----Blind------Borthwick-Jackson

    ---------------Fellaini-----Carrick------------------

    Lingard-----------Periera--------------Depay

    -------------------Wilson----------------------
They all played for U-21's last night, so might be a bit much to ask.

You've got a point. My apologies

Its a shame. These are the sort of games youths should be involved in. It would also give our young fullbacks a real test. We're quite short on fullback cover at the moment

It's being shown in HD in the USA.

Would like to see Martial rested and Rooney "rested", games for Memphis, Blind, Carrick and Fellaini, and one of Pereira or Wilson start.

Gone for Darmian, Blind, Carrick, Fellaini, Lingaard, Perreira, Memphis and Wilson to play.

De Gea, Jones and Rojo only ones to survive from the weekend.

    Gone with:

    De Gea

    Darmian Jones Blind Rojo

    Carrick Fellaini

    Lingard Pereira Memphis

    Martial
I don't think we'll weaken too much, but a few there needing games. Boro are a good side, and I think the days are gone where you can play a side of kids against football league sides and still expect a comfortable win. I think that side is more than good enough to win.

need to make sure we're not complacent in this one. Boro are no mugs in their league, and the way the cup is now opening up, we'd have every chance of getting our hands on it.

I just don't see the point in dropping Rooney for this if he will be back as the first name on the team sheet against Palace. Even when he was at his best he just needed games constantly to keep his fitness and sharpness up. Fergie used to say it all the time. It's almost as if when he hears that he won't be playing he just stops training properly. That night out for his birthday won't have done him any favours either...

Ideally I want him dropped indefinitely and sold as soon as possible but assuming he is guaranteed to play against Palace then he needs to play tommorow or I shudder to think what his performance will be like at the weekend. He is not a player who benefits from being "rested".

    Going

    -------------De Gea------------
    Darmian-Smalling-Jones-Rojo
    --------Herrera-Carrick--------
    Lingard---Fellaini----Memphis
    -------------Martial-------------

They are doing well in the Championship. They are 4th. One point off of second place and five points off of first. They have 24 points from 13 games so far.

    Hope we get this:

    de Gea
    Darmian Jones Blind Rojo
    Carrick
    Lingard Pereira Fellaini Memphis
    Rooney

Then sit Rooney's ass down over the weekend for the league game.

    Darmian Jones Blind Rojo
    Carrick
    Lingard Pereira Fellaini Memphis

There are signs we've looked better in a proper 4-3-3, and it certainly suits Fellaini, who is likely to play. I think it's a solid idea.

    Then on the weekend it's:

    ----------Martial-------
    X--------Herrera-----Mata
    -----Schneid-Schwein--
    Rojo-Jones-Smalling-Valencia
    ----------De Gea---------------

with X being whoever looks sharp in this game or training or ah feck it it'll be Rooney up top with Martial on the left.

Hey. Maybe we're only a Memphis, Lingard or Pereira brace against a Champo side away from Rooney finally getting benched!

    Hope it is

    DDG
    Darmian - Jones -Blind -Rojo
    Carrick - Schneiderlin
    Lingard - Fellaini - Memphis
    Wilson

Martial to come on if needed. Pereira and Young to get some game time in second half.

    Anyone remember this?

Sickening, they used to be quite a bogey side for us.

Edit: Commentary might be a bit biased.

Two goals and an assist by Gaizka Mendieta. He was such a great player! Today, I don't think that Middlesbrough has anyone remotely as talented...

Time to bring Memphis back and give Martial a break.

We can also give game time to Fellers and Pereira too.

    Time to drop Rooney tonight - we could easily get away with it under the banner of "resting him". I would go;

    De Gea
    Darmian
    Jones
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Blind
    Fellaini
    Herrera
    Depay
    Young
    Martial

Theory is, keep a settled back 5, give Blind a game in midfield alongside Fellaini as neither will (hopefully) start at the weekend. Rest Mata, drop Rooney, get Martial through the middle with Herrera in behind utilising the pace of Young and Depay out wide

He has to give Carrick some time.

I want us to field a strong team here and get the business done. With three strong teams already out of the competition (Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea) we are left with two other top 7 sides - City and Liverpool - and in all honesty Liverpool are not as good as we are and on our day we could beat City too.

Got a feeling League Cup will be picked up by an unexpected team this year though. Someone like Stoke or even one of Championship teams.

Will Channel 5 or anyone be showing the highlights again?

Everyone's knackered and we're risking burnout. Plus we saw with Arsenal's match yesterday that in the middle of lots of more important games and competitions, playing too many senior players can be a risk in itself, because they'll be tired and demotivated. So I say play loads of kids for this one. Obviously you risk an MK Dons/Arsenal vs Wednesday result, but I think it's in the character of this club to take that risk, and we should continue to do so.

I'd like to see something like this:

    Romero
    Darmian Jones Blind Rojo
    Schneiderlin
    Herrera Pereira
    Lingard
    Wilson Martial
Solid defensive foundation of senior players, and an attack full of hungry, energetic youngsters (although still featuring by far our most dangerous attacking player this season.) And a fecktonne of pace up front.

And hopefully Rooney's been doing lots of one-on-one training with Jones...

    Struggling to pick a team.
I think Smalling might be rested, Darmian and Blind to come in

That's all I've got, the remaining slots could be a variety of combinations.

Struggling to pick a line-up here..

Reckon Smalling, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata, Herrera, and Martial are the ones who will be rested.

Going with De Gea, Darmian, Jones, Blind, Rojo; Carrick, Fellaini; Lingard, Pereira, Memphis; Rooney.

Wilson and Young to come off the bench, with one other but feck knows who.

Blind, jones, rojo and darmian would be my defence. Carrick and fellaini to come in. Perreira to get a game. Memphis back in, martial uptop alone. Wilson on the bench for the second half sub appearance.

Expect a bit of rotation - would like to see Young, Memphis, Pereira get a run out.

More importantly though, I want to see a strong bench that can come on and do the business if the starting XI aren't doing a job. Should use tonight as a statement of intent, with Arsenal and Chelsea going out and City with a potentially hard game against Palace, would like to see us crack on and aim to win this cup.

It's probably lowest of our priorities but would success breeds success and would be great for momentum.

We have Palace, CSKA and West Brom up next after this match so I would hope we rotate here to avoid fatigue and unnecessary injury ahead of 3 tricky matches.

Realistically the second string team should have enough about them to see off Boro and while it would be nice to win the league cup it would be of lower importance than CL and premier league so not worth risking the players.

Palace, CSKA and West Brom are not really extremely difficult games. Palace usually lose to stronger sides despite getting good results against mid-table and lower half teams, CSKA at home should not be considered as a tough game when you're Manchester United and West Brom have been very poor this season. I understand that it's sort of trend to label all Premier League games as 'tricky' but really, this list is not so scary that we have to rest players in massive numbers.

I know we shouldn't fear these teams but our results against mid table teams has been erratic and we lost to West Brom in the corresponding fixture last season. Not saying we shouldn't expect 9 points from the 3 matches but I also think we should give ourselves the best chance to beat them by resting as much as possible.

Rest Martial, Rooney etc Play the squad players, youngsters.

Top 4 of Lingard, Pereira, Memphis, Wilson will be greate to watch

Would be good to see a few players who have not featured so much recently get some game time... I'd go with the team below...

I'm not convinced all 3 of Lingard, Wilson & Pereira will start the match.

They absolutely should. Will be a negative against LVG for me if they don't. They are all in and around the first team. If you cannot use them even for these cup games when are they going to be used?

For me if he doesn't use them he cannot then come out and say the players are in red zone.
