    No

Because if he warrants a starting line up position, regardless of form, just because he cost so much, then that's the completely wrong way to be looking at it.
Then he was buying wrong players. Rice, Maddison and Szoboslai are running the show in their new clubs while Erik doesn't know what to do with his priority signing.

I can only imagine he's playing 5 at the back with someone allocated to man mark Haaland

Trouble is we still then need to deal with the rest of them who are all dangerous

Do we think there's any of their players who wouldn't walk into our team?

Not a single player of ours would get in their XI.

I did ask the question after the lineup went out.

It has to be tactics that all those players are on the bench, they all can't be with same degree of fitness issues to necessitate being on the bench at the same time.

Let's wait and see how we play. The problem is there is no new player in there, either ETH brings up his magic or City becomes confused by our play but no revolutionary tactics we will see today.

Varane and Reg are on the bench…they both played on Tuesday

Bruno on the right is like playing with 10 men, in a game where the ball will be limited the logical thing to do would be going for the counter and we can’t even do that with Bruno

McTominay, Amrabat and Eriksen is something Everton would put out. His 55m signing Mount is on the bench

I think our fitness coaches know a lot more than us, and the fact that the two aren't starting must mean they're not fit enough to start.

As for Bruno being on the right, it's not ideal, but I can understand it. Ten Hag gained success from using three out of the four attacking players last season, with Hojlund starting instead of Martial.

Amrabat and McTominay are in there to the dirty work, as Fred and Casemiro did last season. We're not going to outplay City, so we need to try and frustrate them.

Not too sure why Mount isn't starting, but the fact that we've won our last three games without Mount probably forced ten Hag's hand. That, and its clear that ten Hag made a mistake when brining in Mason Mount, who most people said we didn't need. What we did need is a top class box to box midfielder, who would have been starting next to Amrabat today.

Well . What a team that is.. lindelof Dalot Evans Maguire .. Foden Haaland are going to have a fecking field day .. if we get a draw I be happy... City 4 nil at best .. game will be over after 30mins .. keep the score down day this is pack the CM and park the coach .. Haaland is going to love Running past those 2 so it's deeper back 4 has to be .. corner count for City will be high..

Just look at the difference in players walking out of the tunnel then from us and them

I know the lineups not in correct order but I do see Amrabat dropping between the centre backs at times during the match. Hopefully it’ll help build from the back.

Bruno on the right is such a terrible thing to watch

Caftards, we know today is going to be shite. So, in order to preserve your mental health, I suggest we log off the cafe and refrain from posting here every 2 mins moaning about how shit we are, ten hag needs to be sacked etc etc. It's not going to do you or anyone any good repeating those same lines.

God speed fellow reds. God speed.

Safe to say expectations are low. Not sure what the tactical thinking is with a couple of those choices. Erik is either handing people a stick to beat him with or we're in for a masterclass.

The reverse fixture is in March. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if this ETH's last Manchester Derby. That starting line up has deflated me more than a little.

Apparently he’s said Lindelof and Evan’s is tactical I can only think of a back 3 with Dalot and Amrabat full backs

    Feck knows

Mainoo on the bench - everyone talking about him. Neer seen him but boy do we need a new saviour!

I cannot fathom what the tactical reason would be to start Evans over Varane. And I don't see us suddenly switching to a back 3 either.

4-3, Jonny Evans to score the winning goal after a Hojlund hattrick.
