    We'll beat City 2-0.

Smalling in place of Jones and Di Naria in place of Young. Blind remains at left back, still an underdiscussed development of late.

Rojo defending Aguero will be the key matchup of the game. If we can contain him, and I think we will, it's lights out for the oil fukks.

Why fix what ain't broke? Bring Di Maria off the bench, if necessary.

Changing your tune from my 'Di Maria has earned start' thread?

Let's have it!! Getting more and more confident as the days go by. Now is the time to play City

10 games ago, i'd have been really nervous to play Manchester City, as the past few seasons we have looked so inadequate against them, but they are currently on a losing streak, the title is out of their hands, and they still can't retain it, even with all that money spent.

I'm still not 100% confident of a win, even at Old Trafford. City generally up the ante when playing United, and we do the opposite, but if there was a time to play them, it's now.

Going for 2-0 United, Rooney, Di Maria.

really looking forward to it, with the best feeling in a long time! Considering our form and their form we have to win this!

So according to the media and a lot of people, we're now favourites for this one.

I think that makes me even more nervous :nervous:

Would take a jammy 1-0 win right now!

I can see us winning by the odd goal. I think we'll trouble their defence more than they'll trouble ours - they looked toothless last night.

If City stick to their 442 love in, then I can see LvG wanting to take it apart as a way of sticking two fingers up at those who chanted for 442 when things weren't going so well for us.

We definitely have it in us to win, but even a draw wouldn't be such a bad result.

Why are so many calling for Young to be dropped? He's more than earned his place and has struck up a great rapport with Blind and Afro on the left. Having ADM would see us be less measured in terms of ball retention too and that's something we'll need against City.

    Is it really so crazy?

I'd be happy either way, but if we wanna go for the throat and put pressure on them from the start, I'd pick di Maria.

I know which player the City supporters hope is on the bench.

I am really, really looking forward to this game. After losing the last four to them I am feeling confident this time around. Would love to make a real statement and just batter them. Of course there is the chance that they will lift for the derby and play well.

Chance to go 4 points ahead of them. Amazing turnaround. Still going to be nervous as feck for the game but we're the side that's got confidence now.

It's pretty nice going into this game thinking that we have a chance of getting some kind of result. Remarkable really considering the contrasting fortunes of the two clubs and where they both stood at the start of this season. Saying that they are still capable of giving us a good fecking thrashing if we don't have our shit together and the likes of Aguero suddenly find their form. But it seems to me that they are unravelling a little bit and none more so than Kompany. Expect dissent in the ranks and rumours of dressing room discord shortly I reckon.

Beating them and finishing above them would be lovely in light of the cockiness eminating from their camp this past while and all this chat about a long term power shift in Manchester and the EPL. I'd actually prefer to see them drop out of the top 4 even if it meant Liverpool got into Europe because I think the long term effects on City's status would be pretty catastrophic and could effectively see them removed as a viable rival for quite some time.

Every time we play the Scouses, I’m really nervous. When we play Chelsea and Arsenal I’m excited. But when we play Shitty, I’m really half half… We know that they’re big rivals, but it seems that they have a mental advantage on us recently…. It’s a shame that we lost the last 6 games against us, and with big score sometimes. They will come to a ground they like requesting a victory to put it right…. Recently, every time City was in the underdog position, chasing for something, the 6-1, the 0-1 defeat hat cost us the league, the 4-1 etc…. So I really think that we shouldn’t underestimate them, their form, manager etc. They have still big game players that can with them the game on Sunday like Aguero, Touré, Silva and players that can hurt us like Nasri, Milner and Navas even if they’re not in great form.

BUT, we ‘ve to win it to show that we can beat a top side in the championship for once. Yes we won at Pool, but they argue that vs 11 players it could have been different etc… I’m still unsure about the balance of the team. Villa came and played their game on Saturday, and had some great break, and if it was other, they could have score more goals. So I don’t really know how to prepare this game.

Have people not learnt from the Liverpool build up? Screw fearing City. Let them be afraid of us, which they should be, given our recent form. LvG has had us playing quite well in the big games since the home game against Chelsea. I don't think I've ever been as confident for a big game, most of the optimism arises from the performance at Anfield. We're going to batter them.

Kompany should be banned for this game after touching the ref yesterday.

Their confidence is extremely low, form gone to shit and had a can't be arsed look about them last night compared to our high confidence, fine form, fighting tooth and nail for top 4 and we're at home. We're gonna batter them.

Great post. I am the exact same. It's only early into LvG's tenure, and we have some way to go, but I am already starting to get a little bit of that arrogance/confidence back about going into big games.

Have City played 442 for all season? Have to say I'm confident about this game and it's a weird feeling to have.

Think this is lining up for a game that we should be winning. Normally I'd say the derby factor would render all previous results and form irrelevant, but the fact this is at OT, they're on such poor form as well as such poor moral just as we've been hitting a really good stride continuing from a couple of really big wins I'm feeling weirdly confident about this one. Going for a 2-0.

Hell if we do win this I'll actually be starting to think we can even win (or at least draw) at Chelsea. They've not been looking so unbeatable since Christmas and some of their victories haven't been as convincing as they were at the start of the season. Would say that their position would go to their heads, but they have a lot of players used to winning competitions, so doubt that will be a factor. But still, you can see LvG isn't phased by Jose's mind games and is even starting to play some back.

Remember defiantly sending a text to a City mate of mine 5 minutes after the loss at their place, saying we'd be the better team by the time the reverse came about and here we are :D

Would have been less nervous if they'd not lost last night though.

As has been said, this would be our best chance to win the game in years. How often have we gone into this fixture as favorites! Surely a draw would feel like a loss. The other games we have left to play though :nervous:

I think both teams will score and United will come out on top. We are in great form and they are not - even though the form book tends to go out the window for derbies I am still confident.

I'll go 3-1, would glady take a scrappy 1-0 though. Even a draw wouldn't be the worst result.

    Red card for Milner.

since yesterday only the league leaders have lost less games than United.

hard to beat...sounds like Moyes  :D

The winning spirit has raised a lot on here, I love that. Personally I'd take the draw of course hope we smash them and its better time than the last 2-3 season. Feels like we are ready and in a really good form to beat them while our confidence is getting higher. Finger crossed.

They showed two Manchester derbies; the one at the Etihad from last season where we lost 4-1 and then the infamous 6-1 at Old Trafford, on Sky last night

I know you generally don't watch these things back after they happen but I sat and watched...
I was just shocked at how appalling our team shape and tactics were. It was the stuff of idiots!

No clue what Rio Ferdinand was at in either game. He looked totally finished even in the 6-1. We had Anderson on the field against Yaya Toure
Fletcher chasing shadows whilst trying to keep himself together the poor lad and De Gea had an absolute nightmare. Should have saved 3 of those goals - the last one he let in from Dzeko was absolutely laughable.

I thought is it any wonder we got mauled both times. Tactically it was stuff from the stone age. 2 banks of 4 just stood there rigid whilst Nasri, Silva, Toure and Aguero zipped about between them like they were traffic cones.

Cut to the bench and there's Either, Mulensteen and Phelan or Wee Uncle Jimmy, Round and Neville, with Sir David of shithouses Moyes in pretty much the fetal position.
The f**king brains trust sat there like lemmings, not having a notion what to do

Just hope we don't go into the game too over confident. Like Liverpool were a few weeks ago.

No doubt it will be the game where Pellegrini finally drops 4-4-2 as well. Which is ashame.

City are only comfortable with a loser mentality.....We might not win, but it's not going to be a walkover, like they've had the last 4 times
