Did you actually think we were going to win the CL then? I don't get why so many people are 'devestated' by going out of competition we were never likely to win anyway. We all know we aren't at that level yet.
Would rather we got knocked out in the next round to avoid playing Thursday’s.

There's nothing wrong with Thursday and Sunday games. It's exactly the same as Wednesday and Saturday. I just want to be amongst the best, and that's the champions league.

We are the most in form team in the league.

There is an inevitability about this game

City will score first and early - that will leave us chasing shadows.
Its going to be a long game and City will feast on our defence. Dreading this.
I fully expect us to be soundly beaten.

    Ole will say

The boys were fantastic, we played well, we were unlucky. :wenger::wenger:

Which we didn’t earn the right to be in. So we start again.

Fair fecks. Most of us would kill for that to be Ole's first trophy anyway. I doubt we share Bruno's optimism that it could be the league.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Rashford Bruno Martial
    Greenwood
What I'd do. Get at their back 4 with the pace and quality of our front 4, and then have the midfield be work horses, and the back 4 keep it solid.

    Jesus
    Sterling------------------------Mahrez

    Foden------------KDB
    Rodri

    Cancelo----Laporte----Dias-----Walker

    Ederson
I assume City will go with something like that. Maybe Gündogan in for Foden for extra control. Or possibly Sterling as makeshift ST to keep him away from going up against AWB 1 vs 1.

I'm still going for a draw. City are unpredictable.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we get done from a set-piece.

Rodri is brilliant at near post flick-ons and headers. Dias is a real presence aerially as well. And Laporte, if he plays, always get himself in the mix. Aké attacks the ball very well also.

For the first time in ages, I am extremely unsure of this derby.
I think we will get soundly beaten by City, and Ole Gunnar Solskjær will actually fight for his job on the 20th of December, against bloody Leeds, of all teams!

Double green crazy smilies for a made up quote from a made up result.

This is peak anti Ole hatred going on right here.

Every thread I go into, without fail, there you are , telling people how much better a fan you are. Telling people how they should support the club, what they’re allowed and not allowed to say.

Going into threads telling anyone who criticises Solskjaer how wrong and shit of a fan they are. You even made a thread telling people to get behind the club. What you actually meant was just get behind Ole, everyone else at the club is fair game for criticism.
Are you two related or something? It’s quite disturbing your obsession.
I’ve seen multiple posts from you criticising Pogba, Wan Bissaka and the board, which is strange from someone who made such a ridiculously obnoxious and lacking self awareness thread as you did.
Your posting is not very good, it may even be as bad as ‘90+5’s.

    Agree.

I chucked them both on ignore a long time ago.

Did he say Martial will definitely be involved and Edinson, a decision has to be made?
Looks like Anthony is back then. In this case, we will play a front 3 with Rashford, Martial, Greenwood.

We probably need to see if we can involve Cavani as a sub or not. Bruno, Fred, Scott.

I think from there the team picks itself for the front 6.

    Henderson
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Fred
    VdB - Fernandes - Rashford
    Greenwood

Subs: Cavani - Pogba - Telles

    MUFC 2-1 City

United have the chance to put themselves firmly in the title picture with a win. I can only see one outcome in such a pressurised scenario.

    United 0 - 3 City.

Even if we win tomorrow, we won't be in a title race, because we'll drop points against lesser opponents.
If we lose tomorrow, Ole's job could be on the line and that is the only reason why I think we'll win. Ole is incredibly lucky and pulls out a win against any opposition, just to save his job. I've never seen a manager so lucky before in my life.

Before Jan 2020, we were crap and were mid-table. Ole needed a miracle. In came Bruno. The most successful purchase we have made since SAF retired (we've bought many players, spent huge sums, but no player has had this level of impact). Think about all the money we have spent and only now, we stumble upon Bruno, when Ole needed a serious booster.
Bruno scored/assisted with a prodigious amount of goals in 2020.
In comparison, Moyes bought Mata (in January), who made little impact and Moyes was fired months later.
Jose bought Sanchez (in January), who was diabolical, made no impact and was fired later.

We were so bad, that even with Bruno, it still didn't look like we'd make top 4 (and managers at MUFC who fail top 4 get sacked).
    Ole needed more luck.
Enter Covid19, which leads to a suspension of the league and allows us to re-group and we came back firing on all cylinders.

If I told you 2 years ago about how lucky Ole is, nobody would believe me and say that I was making this all up.

If we win tomorrow, the run will be easier, and with the trend of the team, I think we can get many pts. It's going to be Sheffield United, Leeds (ok they are great and all but they always concede), Everton (EFL cup), Leicester, Wolves, Aston Villa, Watford (FA cup), Fulham.

That's the possibility to do a very decent run given the recent "form" we've been in the league, as long as we beat City. So beating City will become important. And we will put them at 4 pts, which is a nice perk.

You don't enter the competition to win.
You enter to go as far into as possible.
So, the target for MUFC, at this stage, should be quarter finals. If a manager takes us that far, he's done an okay job. Semi final and beyond would be a great job.
For the league, under Ole and Woodward we won't ever win it, but I do want to see us in 2nd place (or even 1st).

By your reasoning, we should quit the EPL, League Cup, FA Cup, Europa League - because we won't win any of those.

We will win comfortably tomorrow and the Outers can cry into their cornflakes for another week.

    Your logic is sound.
The problem is we tend to beat better teams (usually when Ole's job is on the line) and lose to weak teams (when Ole's job is not on the line).
So I would not assume that we will win against the likes of Sheffield Utd, Wolves or Aston Villa - we are inconsistent.

Yeah man I hear you, I know we are all "shivering" at each game. But one step at a time I guess, let them win, and we will do the aftermath.

I see how this place and every fan is when we lose. The negativity is soaring and sometimes psychadelic.
If we feel it, the players feel it as well. A defeat against City could create a real turmoil for us, while a win, maybe, will calm a bit the storm.

The only way to address that inconsistency is to trust in ourselves, and for that, I suppose we have to beat City.

You are right that he's lucky. Just when we're about to play a team, they'll suddenly be hit with an injury or two a few days before the game. We played LASK away (would have been the biggest game in their history) without fans present, which made it much easier. And they suffered TWO ACL injuries days before we played them. This is what fans commonly refer to as Ole juju. Haha. We played Southampton away when they were without Redmond and Ings. These little breaks always seem to go for him. I was shocked when Konaté didn't score an OG to give him a 3-3 draw, which would have gotten him out of jail. Again. But for once, he didn't get that extra slice of luck we usually get. It was used up in the form of a dodgy penalty being awarded and Maguire not having a feckin' clue what was happening for the 2nd goal.

But to his credit, or the data analyst team, Bruno has been a great signing so far. Yet even with Bruno, we still can't quite find the consistency needed to compete at the highest level. We would be nearer to Arsenal without him.

None of those games, bar Sheffield and Fulham, are easy. The games are coming thick and fast. I wouldn't be surprised if we manage to beat the likes of Leicester and Villa, but mess up against Sheffield.

I do agree with those who are saying that even if we win tomorrow we will drop points against crappier teams. However, if we win that’s 5 in a row which would be the longest winning run of any team in the league this season. We are currently on the longest winning run already actually. Seems everyone is dropping points this year.

Our winning run isn't sustainable if we keep defending the way we have been in recent weeks.

West Ham should have killed us off before we equalised. Southampton were more fortunate to be leading 2-0, but threw it away. The Leipzig game was basically over at HT.

We can't keep coming back. If we give City a lead, I don't think we'll claw it back this time.

In a way, I would like to see us lose this 2-0 and be rid of Ole. This sort of Limbo we find ourselves in with multiple false dawns is becoming draining. Short term pain for the greater good.

But I think we'll compete well tomorrow. We have an honest group of players. They lack leadership and direction. But can deliver big performances out of pure endeavour and belief.

Losing is probable; losing ole this early isn’t

But that sort of limbo is exactly why we wouldn’t get rid of Ole. We’d lose tomorrow and go into crisis after being beaten twice in a row then he will pull a result out in the next game.

At a club like Real or Bayern you can get sacked after winning a title.

Our unwillingness to react has cost us over the years. With the exception of Moyes, we generally don't pull the trigger soon enough.

The club seems to pride itself on being different. It's maybe why we only have 3 European Cups.

It would be another mark against Woodward who would see yet another failed manager that he hired leave. That gives Woodward the incentive not to sack him unless we are really on the brink of no return.

Woodward wants to be associated with helping bring back the glory days.

Too much discussion in this thread and not many formations

    Henderson
    Awb Lindelof Maguire Telles
    Mctominay Fred
    Greenwood Bruno Rashford.
    Martial

That's got nothing to do with management appointees. We lost 2 to the best club side I've ever seen.
We should have made the final on at least 2 separate occasions. Losing out to Borussia Dortmund was painful( Lars fecking Ricken), and Bayer Leverkusen we should have battered, In 1969 we were cheated by a bent ref when we would have beaten a young Ajax.

If calamity dave and pogba dont start, and we dont lose too badly, and at least look competitive, ill take that for now.

How the hell is Martial fit, the bloke looked like he could barely walk when he left the field last weekend. I’ll take it, though.

    Expecting:

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Mata Bruno Rashford
    Martial
    ---
Henderson; Telles, Tuanzebe; Matic, van de Beek, Pogba; Greenwood

Will likely finish the game with Donny, Pogba, and Greenwood replacing McTominay, Mata, and Martial but ultimately not be able to get back in the game. 0-2 to City.

The quality of our opponents seems to have very little bearing on whether we beat them or not. That in the heart of the problem.

Players must be on lowest moral. Don't have much hope here. Just fight for pride that's all.
