Even SAF, who was excellent at rubbing ppl up the wrong way, steered clear of him.

"You are never quite sure what he is up to. I don't go down that road. I let him get on with it."

We all know what Mourinho's like. It's brinksmanship. A game. An act.

It's a construct - fuelled by the media. An adopted persona designed to help increase his chances of winning a football match. That's it.

And still managers, players and the media alike get sucked into playing his games.

If it somehow did get postponed until after January or something like that, would Pogba be eligible? Interesting dilemma

Pogba is suspended for the next 3 games. Names of opponents are not attached. If a match is postponed, he simply misses the next additional domestic fixture, in this case the League Cup game against Bristol City.

Mmmm imagine the uproar if the game gets postponed and then in the rescheduled game Pogba scores a 90th minute winner with his hand while standing on two City players

Would be extremely shocked if it wasn’t a back 3/5. Don’t see why we’d bother with it against CSKA for example if it wasn’t going to be used again. I know the team changed but it may have been used to help Herrera to integrate into it for example.
It's still a reactive formation Mourinho uses against teams that play 3 at the back (like Watford, Arsenal and CSKA), while City most probably won't.

Don't know why people are expecting Martial not to start this one.

He was rested for most of the game Thursday and so will play Sunday.

Can't see much changing from the Arsenal game to be honest.

Mou will try and keep it right and bring Fellaini and Ibra on late to try and grab a goal from a set piece. A draw isn't disastrous and sneaking a late win would be perfect.
Well, Mourinho did mention Rashford is better for attacking space and Martial for playing between the lines. I guess City will offer lots of space in the back, so… But it's true Martial is in better form.

Pogba will be available for the City game if the game is postponed. Which would be huge.

There may be positives for City too. For one, they may struggle to play their game on a snowy pitch. For another, they will be able to refresh their team after looking a bit tired in the last games.

I'm a bit doubtful Mourinho will keep 3 at the back against a team that doesn't play like that too. It only happened twice this season, against Real Madrid and Swansea away. It's true we look better in this formation, but it still seems a reactive system for the manager.

We have Lingard this time, not the awful Mkhitaryan. We will be fine.
Just two weeks ago they were both awful. One disappearing act from Lingard with a bad team performance and he's back to it.

My guess is a 4-3-3 that transforms into a 4-3-1-2.

Lingard seems to offer that running in behind. Maybe Rashford and Mata go together, Lingard and Martial.

My guess is a 4-3-3 that transforms into a 4-3-1-2.
    Why?

Whenever we would get a free slot, sometime in January/February looking at the schedule right now.
It probably won't be postponed but if it was that would actually be great for us because Pogba would most likely be available increasing our chances of winning but on the other hand we wouldn't get the opportunity to put pressure on City over the festive period and playing the game in January would mean more pressure on us if the gap stays as it is.

Lingard seems to offer that running in behind. Maybe Rashford and Mata go together, Lingard and Martial.

    Why?
I just think we can't go to this match with just two midfielders, Matić and Herrera/Fellaini. But at the same time Lingard operates so much better from the center, I feel he can do a bit of Mata's drifting from the right to the center, that's why the actual 4-3-1-2.

People expecting one of Martial or Rashford or even both to start, but maybe none will.

Anyhow, a seeming 3 at the back could look pretty close to the asymmetrical 4-4-2 we played Chelsea last season. Remember we started just Lingard and Rashford as attacking players at home?

Arsenal switched to a 4-2-3-1 with a front 3 of Iwobi, Lacazette and Sanchez against us when Mustafi went off. Martial switched out to the wing and Valencia, when needed, pushed up onto Kolasinac. So we pretty much matched them all over the pitch despite nominally playing three at the back.

It also left space behind Kolasinac, because he was close to Valencia, a wingback, not a winger. Pogba ran into this space in a way reminiscent of his time at Juve, just on the other side of the pitch. Of course we don't have Pogba on Sunday but this does show why going three at the back against a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 can be a good idea.

The problem I foresee of us going 3-5-2/3-4-1-2 against City is that Pep might move Delph into midfield (this probably explains partially why Delph is playing left-back) and shuttle the rest of the defence to the left to make the formation 3-3-1-3. This way they could make it 4v3 against us in midfield and really dominate the match.

The Arsenal game is one that Arsenal dominated and could have won if not for De Gea, City are better than Arsenal in every sense so if they have those chances they'll beat us

People expecting one of Martial or Rashford or even both to start, but maybe none will.

Martial is one of the first names on the team sheet now, he'll definitely start. After midweek Rashford may have played himself into the side also. Depends how we line up, 1 extra defender or 1 extra attacker....

People expecting one of Martial or Rashford or even both to start, but maybe none will.

Martial is definitely gonna start this. He was rested during the midweek for this.

The only concern will be if we'll go with 3 midfielders or 3 at the back with Lingard dropping to support the midfield.

Perhaps but Jose did say after the Watford game (where they switched to a 4-3-3) that the shape wasn't the problem but individual mistakes. He might feel that with a little more work the team can get it right.

Yes and Alonso was very far forward in that game just like Kolasinac was very far forward for Arsenal. Pogba could have attacked that space but he was on the otherside of the pitch. Maybe that's why Jose bought Matic: he's left-footed so fits in well on the left side of the centre, allowing Pogba to move to the right.

Lingard's perfomances in the last two games are better than anything Mkhi has offered this season in the same position.
Lingard at his worst is better than Mkhi at his worst. Mkhi's awful form made us miss Pogba more than we should have done.

Was thinking Shaw would have a chance at making the bench here, but with Jones fit and Jose liking to have a better option defensively who he trusts more, I think it'll be Darmian and Jones as our benched defenders. Most of us would still probably rather Shaw than Darmian, but I don't think that will be José's thinking. Shaw will start against Bristol and maybe get some time against Bournemouth as well.

I think we have to go 3 at the back with this game and try to play a high line. If we sit back.. Aguero will get a pouchers goal. We can get them on set-pieces and on the break.

Martial is one of my favourite players, but we need Rashford for his tracking back abilities, plus turning def into att with speed. Martial would do good coming from the bench.

We need Lukaku, Lingard and Rashford to be on top form in Pog's absence.

So I hear there’s 8 inches of snow expected for the derby and a big if is the game could possibly be rescheduled depending not so much on field conditions but more so surrounding roads/pathways/ability for fans to get to and from the game...potentially allowing Pogba to play down the road. A part of me kind of hopes that happens just to see the outrage on City’s end LOL.

But in all honesty, nah feck it and hope they game is played. That’s a small club mentality and shows we’re not confident. Plus City haven’t been performing as well as they have been and would rather get it over with and take or chances now, not down the road where they can catch fire again and be in better form. Plus they travelled away midweek and lost so hopefully that’s put a little dent in their confidence as is :p

Think it's best we get this match done and dusted. Like you said, no better time to play them based on their form the past two matches.
Part of me wants to hear the City cries if it's cancelled as well.

trouble in these days its all heath and safety, the pitch will be prefect , it always is, but if the expected snow does arrive at the time the met office say, it will cause massive problems on the roads and pavements.
The Police and emergency services have to plan ahead and if there is a major incident, coupled with the snow, major incident is made even worse.
I would think the club and Police have already made plans for this.
I would say at this moment in time 50/50 the game is called off.

Is there an actual chance that the game could be called off?

It’s what my Manchester family has informed me through whatsapp messages not too long ago lol. Guessing the locals on these forums know more as I’m just relaying what I heard from the other side of the world hahah.

But yea, they say it won’t effect the field conditions as there’s underground heating for the soil which won’t be a problem. It’s a matter of accessibility for the crowd and if that ends up being a problem, it’ll be postponed / anything hazardous or dangerous for fans.

Could be wrong but they might be not too bothered if the game is cancelled. They will recharge the batteries, be fresh for Swansea and Spurs and break the record for most consecutive wins in a season. Otherwise, they will play 3 games within 6 days and are more likely to drop points in the other games.

I won't be happy if the game is cancelled despite us being without Pogba. They are 8 points ahead so of course City will be the happier team. By the time it's played the gap could be more than 8. We need the opportunity to put them under pressure going into the Christmas period and they know that we are the closest challengers and the best team placed to chase them down so not playing would be very bad for us.

    I think so, yes.

    I hope it isn't though.

    very much so.
Cheers. Tbh, I wouldn't mind it being called off as we could really use Pogba against them.

They have been stuttering of late and they also have a few tough games coming up so they gap could be smaller as well.

If it's freezing then I hope we play. They cocked up last winter and I'd like to see if they can deal with the cold weather.

With the Xmas period and further cold temperatures, losing to us might just cause them to wobble a bit. It's the ideal time to beat them and put doubt in their minds.

Haven’t read through all the thread but has anyone considered that this game might get postponed?
M.E.N said it could be postponed yes.
I hope it is, who would want to play City without our best player involved, and they are a full team?
