I imagine that Mourinho had time to work with Lingard and Mkhitaryan on preparing for the match since Mkhitaryan returned early due to his injury and Lingard went nowhere.

Since the wide players have to follow a specific set of instructions to deal with Pep's style of play, it makes sense that Mourinho would select the players he can prepare with instead of players like Mata and Martial who were away with Spain and France.

I didn't realise Mourinho's record v Pep was so bad...

Hardly surprising given the Barca side he was up against. He regularly had lunatics like Ramos and Marcelo trying their best to get sent off ever classico.

I like how open Jose is in the pre-match game. Immediately says how they are planning to set up and combat the 'inverted full backs'.

If we still had LVG he'd say something along the lines of 'I don't speak to you, we shall see'.

Bricking it. Been a while since I felt like this before a game! Last time was under Fergie, under Moyes/LVG I cared but was less bothered.

    Mourinho looks extremely relaxed

I'll give Mou that. Lingard and Mkhitaryan are more flexible whichever way City decide to do

I don't see it as a defensive set up. It's less risky and set up for counter attacking football but I don't see anything wrong with that, SAF often did it.

We still have a lot of skilful players in the team, it's going to be a good watch.

Yeah. Let's not forget there are goals in Jesse and Micky. It's not like we're playing the trivote!

We're going to sit back at OT sadly. I suppose who cares as long as we win. But Jose has gone for a combative team. I'd have started with martial. We could lack a bit in the technical aspects today.

Most confident I've felt going into the derby for years. Really think we're the better side.

I think Lingard and Mikh will interchange CAM and RWM roles. Rooney will primarily play as a LWM. Rashford and Herreara to come if we are trailing or level. Smalling and Morgan to come if we are leading by 75 mins.

I'm probably the most nervous about Iheanacho (sp?) at the moment. Youngsters trying to make a name for themselves often do in games like this, when all the talk is about the star names.

You are not the only one, he is really talented and should be dangerous.

Mate. Mate. Mate. Don't be. Eric Bailly will have him in his back pocket.

I think Martial and Rashford are the faster pair so I don't agree.

However more defensive Possibly but not by much. Certainly not much slower
True, Martial and Rashford would be the faster pair but if we are referencing with the past few games then the comparison should be Martial and Mata in which case today's team is an upgrade in pace. I would love to see Rashford but I'm very comfortable with not starting him as yet and using him as an impact player when the game is more stretched late on. We have been hoping to see how much more exciting our attack could be with Mkhi in the side, so the only real change in question is Lingard. Considering Martial has been largely subpar so far, having him on the bench this game shouldn't be considered as damaging to our attacking game. Let's see how the game pans out. I'll believe what I see on the pitch when we play instead of jumping to brand Mourinho's setup as defensive prematurely (not directed at you but some of the other posts I see).

Shitting it. Was fairly confident in big games under LvG, given that he knew how to set up in them while other managers were a bit dumb with them, but pep vs jose feels really 50/50, especially with both sides. No aguero helps massively but they'll still have more of the ball of course and with silva and de bruyne, anything can happen. We have the players to counter attack them or change the game off the bench if needed.

They all attack and move forward quickly, even if they aren't the fastest in a straight line. They're still pretty fast though.

Yes I agree with that. It gives us a more fluid attack and we can break with speed but none of them have great pace in a straight out race.

I'm surprised City line up with, Fernandinho, Silva & De Bruyne in the CM. Don't think Guardiola has any other choice with that lineup than to continue with his inverted FB's. I think almost any other manager would line up with more defensive fibres in midfield at Old Trafford. This goes one way or the other, can't see this becoming a draw.

Got matchdays jitters like i haven't for a long time. COME ON!
