ya i just want it over with and restart after international break. Weird feeling
Same boat. It feels like we are going to field half of the players we can field v Southampton next week. It’s almost as if our season starts at St Mary’s

Lineup for this one is actually quite hard to predict. From the sounds of it we're bringing Varane in for Maguire which I think will be a welcome change, I imagine Malacia also gets brought in after Shaw got hooked at HT against Brentford.

Midfield is where it gets difficult I think. Displays from Bruno and McTominay so far have been so painfully bad that they could both easily be dropped. Fred also, though I feel he's only player that plays with the intensity I imagine EtH would want.

The attack I think will be unchanged, with Martial being the first sub off the bench after returning from injury. I would personally like to see:

    De Gea

    Malacia
    Martinez
    Varane
    Dalot

    Garner
    Fred
    Eriksen

    Rashford
    Martial
    Sancho

Situation is that we cant replace DDG, Rashford, Dalot. Cant go with Fred anc McT in midfield but no other options either which wont be in danger of getting overran.

Statistics nonces will probably make me look foolish after this but from the ‘eye test’, Shaw generally tends to do well against Salah. I know Shaw has been atrocious this year to date (and for a large portion of last season, too) but it’s a big ask of Malacia to go straight in against a dangerous opponent like Salah, IMO.

I like the look of Malacia a lot but Salah does not track back and ‘cheats’ a great deal in defence and I feel Malacia bombing forward exuberantly and naively will leave us prone to a classic hoofball counterattack by the Scousers.

It’s a huge call for Ten Hag. Sometimes players in bad form (e.g. Shaw) perform well out of the blue when playing opponents they traditionally do well against. Origi v Everton practically every season being a case in point.

Wonder who will play as the 6. Thought Martinez would have a go... Surely not McFred again

Can't we just sneak in big cas? :(

I mean pool players should be used to being kick around by him by now , I'm sure they won't notice another out of the ordinary.

Not looking forward to this game one bit. Have a sense of impending doom since i woke up this morning.

I’m weirdly optimistic, but at the same time think we might get spanked.

we will either sneak a flukey win or get hammered. Don’t see an in between. I’ll go for the former!

I effing did it boys. Took the day off to watch the game. Going to regret it so much but F it, only optimism until the game from now on. We are going to win this and go above them in the table. This is the game ETH announces himself to the league !

They're going to rip us a new arsehole. But happy if it exposes common faults further.

I fully expect the usual suspects to line up.

Bit of a weird one but I'd genuinely line up like this:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------De Gea-------------------------------------------------------------------------
    AWB--------------------------------------Varane-----------------------Martinez-----------------------------------------Malacia
    ---------------------------------------------------Jones--------------------Mctom-----------------------------------------------------
    Sancho---------------------------------------------------Erikson------------------------------------------------------------------Garnacho
    ---------------------------------------------------------------Elanga--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that team is a bit weird and basically shit but I honestly think it gives us the best chance of grabbing something. Ronaldo to come on after about 50 minutes.
Personally I think the team is relatively easy to predict tonight. The defence is nailed in stone with Varane coming in for Maguire and Malacia in for shaw. Martinez won’t be abandoned just yet I think this will be a huge opportunity for Varane and Martinez to cement their place. Unfortunately I don’t think they have any chance of turning it around with the human statue behind them. Midfield raises some challenges without Casemiro here. Personally think we will bring McTominay back in after Fred’s poor display but also wouldn’t be shocked to see McFred with Bruno dropped for Eriksen. Martial is a cert to start now he’s fit. Team is very likely to be:

    —————————De Gea—————————
    Dalot—Varane————Martinez—Malacia
    —————Erikson—————McTominay——
    —————————Bruno———————————
    Sancho—————Martial—————Rashford
There is no way we can be as bad as we were at Brentford. It’s just not possible.

Really hope that we make some much needed changes. Also we can’t be as bad as we were last year either in the same fixture. They are not in the same level of form as last year and no longer have Mane.

Game will be much closer than last year and you’ve got to hope that there is a big reaction after last week.

I think Martinez might play in from of Harry and Varane. Malacia in for Shaw. Id play AWB ahead of Dalot for defensive ability.

Erikson defo starter and after that take your pick from a poor bunch. Don’t see Martial starting just yet. Will be interesting to see what he picks up top.
How fecking difficult can it be to tell the difference between Eriksen and Erikson? And that's just in one page
    He's a United player for Christ's sake.

Funnily enough the second poster spelled it correctly earlier on

It's gonna be Lingaard/Lindgard or Macguire/McGuire all over again.

    I am going for a 2-2 draw.

They ain't not nowhere near as good right now as what people think they are.

I've changed my prediction on this about 8 times. On the one hand, we are godawful to watch at the moment and can barely string passes together. On the other, form can sometimes go out of the window in these types of games. But then again, we don't really look like we've got enough players right now who can raise their game and turn it on to make it a feisty encounter. But also, Liverpool are still feeling their way into this season, too.

    :wenger:

Tempted to say it'll be a draw. We badly need to get a goal and create good chances of our own. It'll look a bit rubbish if we go three games with our only goal being an own goal.

1-1, I think. There's even a small part of me that thinks that we can even narrowly sneak this 1-0 or 2-1. I really can't call it. I'm also being overly optimistic...

That score prediction chart on the right is frightening. About 3/4s think we're going to lose. Is this the highest percentage we've ever had against us in a game on here?

McFred's dying performance, let's hope they go out with a bang.

Malacia has the pace and athleticism to get back to position. He will be a better player for this game than Shaw.

Gone for the below. Although I'm unsure if he will replace Shaw and Ronaldo. Also not sure if he can change much in terms of our midfield when our options on the bench are McT, a guy who he doesn't trust in DVB and a guy who is seemingly on his way out in Garner.

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    Fred Eriksen Bruno
    Sancho Martial Rashford

I genuinely hope you beat ‘em tonight - you shouldn’t be anywhere near the wrong end of the table and it pains me when the scouse win anything. Best of luck.

Boo! You should have given us 20-25m for Henderson. You clearly had money to spend and we could have used that money.

Even if they leather us, I'm not stressed.

With Casemiro in, Varane in, FDJ in(coming) and either Anthony or Gakpo....we will be a different team.

This may be the lowest point before things start to look brighter.

I know people hate McT but we need him there today. Sadly McFred should start. Bruno and Eriksen won't handle the tenacity of Liverpool midfielders.

Else start a 3 man defence.

I have no idea what EtH will try to do tonight. I hope he shelves his philosophy and instructs the team to go long, just for one game. Liverpool will press us with everything they have and our defense can't handle that.

I'd personally bench Shaw and Rashford for Malacia and anyone willing to track back but putting inexperience up against one of the best right flanks in the league might be a bad call. I guess I just want to see the required effort from the team today as we can't match their quality. It's sad that it has come to this but just avoid a humiliation.

going for a completely wild line up
    De Gea
    Varanne Maguire Martinez
Dalot Eriksen Fred vd Beek Malacia
    Ronaldo Sancho

Yeh but then we could only have afforded 24 instead of the 25 new players we are clearly aiming for!

    Still hope you smash them.

These are just normal pre Liverpool/derby day feelings I think. Even when Liverpool/City were shite it always felt like they might beat us on a good day.
