Which is one of the main reasons he's much less effective when played as a winger/am/striker. As a cm it's not as big a deal, and he plays a lot better.
While I agree that we should be playing him in his best position, he really should be less wasteful with his shooting and passing, no matter where he is playing.

Good first half. Albeit Leicester were pathetic.

    Absolutely disgraceful second half.

Meh. Comfortable win but thought that was boring as hell, especially the second half. Could've easily pushed on and scored another 3 or 4 but for 30 minutes of that second half we did nothing.

Leicester were shite more then anything I think. We were decent but still didnt create loads of chances consistentlty throughout the game. Herrera's non inclusion baffling as well.

Yeah that's fair, seems like he needs to calm down a bit sometimes.

Young is good technically, I think but Wilson, yeah.
    Yeah, but better than Rooney?

I feel like I've lost so much of my life watching United's defensive players playing pointless triangles in their own half this season.

Shit second half. We've not looked convincing for a long time.

The display wasn't particularly good, but we were clinical and took the points which is all that matters I guess.

Easy job for the most part even when not playing at our best. Predictably we took our foot off the gas in the second half. Unfortunate that we conceded the goal but we obviously switched off a bit. Phil Jones still isn't at his best sometimes and as typical with young defenders his concentration levels can drop. One sloppy backpass almost cost us and he was partly involved in not dealing with the cross for the goal. Nonetheless, thought he was generally good today.

Felt we could have scored more goals had we been a bit sharper. Di Maria can be quite wasteful in front of goal as he has been for most of his career though. Would be interesting to see if he plays better on the flanks rather than through the middle or up top in the latter part of the second half. Playing him on the flanks might force him to be a creator (which he is excellent) rather than a finisher (which he is average).

Exactly the type of performance needed and hopefully we can play to an even higher level at OT for the remainder of the season. As long as Van Gaal chooses a back four there is no way we don't create chances at OT.

Is there a gif or a vine of those few seconds when Mata was on his knees shuffling forward for the ball?
I nearly spat out my water watching that live

So we conceded a scrappy goal in the second half and suddenly we have struggled today and it was a crap game?

Newsflash for those who have only recently watched us, this has happened for years during the Fergie era even when we were successful. I've seen United take a three goal lead in the first half, concede late in the second half and then close the game out. We were quite comfortable today. Sure they came on stronger towards the end but were never really that much of a threat. We kept the ball well for the most part and kept the lines well as well. It was good win and more importantly, three points. Relax people.

Typical United performance, score a few quite early and then walk through the rest of the game. Not ideal, in terms of entertainment, but I'd take this game every day of the year.

    Yeah, but better than Rooney?

I think he is, not by much, but he is more consistent. But it needs to be said I don't think that he is bad technically.

So you're saying that he's dung,
or is that just food for roses
    either way his negative play
is getting up up our fecking noses

    Substitutions, holy smoke
We parked the bus but the handbrake failed
The philosophee is a bit of a joke
At least Blind and Rojjjjhoo/OG got us out of jail

Bloody hell that second half was painful.
LVG may be a genius but it's lost on me.

    Football vs LVG

Put your biggest, strongest and best defenders at centre back - We prefer to put our best midfielders there.
Put your smaller, faster defenders at fullback - we prefer to put our young centre backs there
Put your best passers and hastlers in the middle - we've put them in defense so put our centre forwards here
Put your fast, tricky players wide and let them run at people - we put them up front so we put our slowest No10 here.
Put your best goalscorers upfront - We have wingers here because our centre forward's in midfield.

Fair enough, I think Rooney's a fair bit better than Young in terms of actual ability. Young as LWB vs Rooney as CM is very close though to be fair.

The first half three goals state differently thankfully.

Did you even watch the match? We played well for about 20 minutes and then our play turned to shit. LVG's tactics in the second half were negative and unnecessary.

Very good first half performance, average in the second, but 3 points is what matters. We need to win at West Ham, nothing less will do.

In fairness, we didn't let them play. I think United moved it around quickly and ran them off their feet in the first half. The lack of killer instinct that let them back into it in the second half, and the lack of adventure is a whole different story.

dude can't you take a week off from criticism? we actually won today!

3 points, but far from convincing against a relegation-bound club.

RvP was offside and the own goal was an unforced error. The gods had our back today.

I'm not digging this "philosophy", which is starting to look more and more like anti-football all the time.

Awh come on. The OG was a forced error. As for the offside, if it was, let's take it. We got a shit decision against them away. Totally deserved win but without the style we demand on the cosy couch that is the CAF.

missed the game unfortunately. can anybody sum it up briefly in terms of performance?

Scored 3 first half. Didn't create much but took our chances. Leicester poor. Second half, negative tactics/subs. Leicester still poor but scored one of their two chances. The other was created by Jones, brilliant keeping, DDG. All in all not great but a standard win. Would have hoped for a few more goals in the second. Blind a revelation. Falcao good at holding up the ball, he looks strong. Nice to see him dropping deep to help build-up.

We just saw a team worth several hundred million pounds go 3-0 up against a team worth less then £30mil, and then at half time, at their managers request, decide to "kill the game" in the second half.

And as a Manchester United fan, you don't think that attitude warrants criticism?

I agree to an extent. We should have walloped them, increased our goal difference and sent a real message out. Not if you keep it tight, United go a couple of goals up and then they take their foot off the gas. Pleased we won, but it could have been better.

That was a confident display. The team seemed to be in harmony and I can give some cred (just a little bit) to LvG for his persistency in playing 5 men at the back - we seem to have improved a lot in defence. After playing with a focus on the back of the pitch, which is where we lack real quality, the players seem to have found some stability and composure. Rojo especially has found his spot in the starting line-up. If our backs can keep this momentum and bring confidence from the back of the pitch, that confidence will spread, and I am sure LvG and the rest of the team will feel more secure in putting emphasize on attacking and creating chances.

We saw today what we are able to do against an opposition when we feel confident about our defence, however, against stronger opposition we will have trouble with finding this harmony, and it will be interesting to see how LvG copes with that problem (perhaps returning to a 3-5-2..). Luckily, we have some rather easy fixtures in the upcoming weeks and LvG seems to trust a back four against such opposition, so we can really start to internalize the harmony in the squad we saw today.

If we get Hummels and - ideally - Ramos in the summer we will become a completely different team, the squad will begin to shine with confidence and I am certain that we will be serious title contenders.

that same team scored 5 goals the last time we went gung ho trying to kill a game. Fact that they cost whatever millions is irrelevant. We were comfortable throughout the game, so no need for criticisms today at least. Save it for when the team really sucks.

Not at all. The defender was under no serious pressure and just boneheaded it in on our behalf.

As for the non-call on offside I'll concede that it's cosmic justice for the Clattenburg abomination, but the point is that we shouldn't need bad referee calls our way against a relegation-bound club.

But I do agree the win was deserved. But if we're happy with performances like this we are never EVER going to see CL football at OT again.

Decent game all round. Januzaj needs to use his ability and keep attacking the defenders and get into the box. He seems to effortlessly get past his man, but does not do it enough. Di Maria looked decent in spots, but needs to cut out giving the ball away so cheaply. Blind was excellent as was Rojo. As hard as Rooney worked, i still hate seeing him in midfield. Would rather have someone like Herrera in there. Valencia cannot put in a cross to save his life anymore, need much better production from him going forward.

Decent game... Blind and Januzaj played well... Blind the best player on the pitch.. ADM had his moments but was wasteful many time.. Falcao decent.. RvP too... Rooney average or there abouts.. His position is clearly not the midfield.. Defense was good with some few mistakes as usual. De Gea as usual on top of his game..
