If Rooney is dropped a victory becomes even more important, since his defendants will be out in force if we loose or draw without him, and it might see him weasle himself back in.

The fact that a new player and a system without Rooney needs some time to gel is often lost on people. One match with 4-3-3 without Rooney and still loosing will have the "lewlz, told ya the problem wasn't Rooney" crew out in force.

We can also continue to lose games...Then they will have the excuse

So what was the excuse against Feyenoord then?

Well it will take some time regardless, right?

I don't think a single one of our players have been given the chance to play #10, Rooney has had that spot reserved for him for the last 2+ years. Can't expect a player and the team to just instantly gel.

Exactly, thanks for strengthening my point...The whole team is shit at the mo
Or a team full of players playing their first game of the season can't be expected to be firing on all cylinders, especially away from home in Europe. But whatever suits your agenda I suppose.

Hoping for the following eleven today, assuming Mkhitaryn is still unfit.

    De Gea
    Shaw
    Smalling
    Blind
    Valencia
    Carrick
    Herrera
    Pogba
    Mata
    Rashford
    Ibrahimovic

Yes. But you can't have your #10 who is supposed to be your main creative outlet, and who in addition restricts the worlds most expensive player from playing in his preferred position, plus stops us from playing the formation that most suits us constantly being one of the worst performers. It is not like Rooney isn't just not starting attacks, he also occupies other players positions when playing, actively hinders our attacks and slows down general play.

How you can't see this is perplexing.

    DDG
    Valencia
    Bailly
    Smalling
    Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera
    Pogba
    Miki
    Rashford
    Ibra

Guessing on the back four, but that's the rumoured front six.

Rooney isn't getting dropped otherwise we would have heard some noises about it by now. I'm fully expecting him in the line up.

I just hope Mou play a true midfield 3 with Herrera. Hoping a MF to be functional with both Rooney and Fellaini involved is very limited and lack skills and energy to drive it forward.

Cracking line-up on paper, that, to be fair...

Plenty of noises on twitter including journalists.

If Rooney is in fact dropped and we play equally as badly, will we be finding another scapegoat for the bad performances?

He's played badly no doubt, but so have the vast majority of the team. He's not the only player who seems to have lost the ability to control and pass a ball. Hopefully he takes his dropping like a man and comes back with much better form.

I'm not 100% writing him off just yet.

Countdown to the meltdown on the Caf when Rooney's name is in the line up

Dropping Rooney won't bring instant success. It will still take some time to then get the best out of Pogba and realising who the best midfield base is to support him. But the team just has to be built around Pogba, where it is currently built around Rooney.

Which other players have consistently lost the ability to control the ball, to pass the ball, to make tackles, intercept, head and generally do any of the basics?

The vast "majority of players" is a total over statement.

Yeah just saw those now, one can hope. But I still see him starting which would make the meltdown in this place even more extreme with some of us being given hope that he might get dropped. It'll be brutal

All the talk shouldn't be about Rooney being dropped. It should be about us hoping we win the game, regardless of what team Mourinho puts out.

Why is Rooney given months and months of leeway for his shite performances, it's taken almost two years of him being terrible for him to be potentially dropped, but any potential replacement is given at most 90 minutes?

    How is that fair?

    Rooney fans conveniently ignore this...

It's sad that in the last 3 years, "hoping" to win has become the norm, unfortunately Rooney is a big part of that.

It's the logic of a child, the logic of people who use words like "haters".

I wouldn't, there is has been zero fluidity in our play for a long while now, I agree Rooney has been terrible, but I've seen plenty of top players underperforming over the last twelve months.

This is more exciting than some of our football. I bet it's more disappointing too.

Contract negotiations would explain why Lingard was kept so much out of the team, like it happened earlier in the season with Fosu-Mensah. Hope Lingard is picked today, at least on the bench.
