Yes Greenwood should be rested. Ighalo, Lingard and James with Mata behind seems like a good enough attack.

    Something like:

    Rom
    Dalot
    TFM
    Bailly
    Williams
    McTominay
    Fred
    Mata
    Lingard
    James
    Ighalo

Pereira, Chong, Laird, Garner, Mengi, Levitt, Kovar on bench.

    -------------------Romero-----------------------

    Dalot------Bailly------Mengi--------TFM

    -----------Fred------------Andreas-------------

    Lingard----------Mata-------------James

    ----------------------Ighalo-------------------------

    Romero

    Laird
    Bailly
    Mengi
    Williams

    Garner
    McTominay
    Fred

    Lingard
    Ighalo
    James

Romero; Laird, Dalot, Fosu-Mensah, Bailly; Fred, McTominay; Mata, Lingard, James; Ighalo

Apparently 12 subs are allowed so -
Grant; Williams, Devine, Mengi, Bernard; Garner, Levitt, Mejbri; Pereira, Chong; Elanga, Greenwood

    Romero
    Laird Bailly TFM Dalot
    McTominay Fred
    Chong Mata James
    Ighalo

I would like to play more kids, but the fact that we have such a big squad of players that have barley got a full game over the last month shows it needs to be cut dramatically as there is a lot of players making up the numbers, I can't even find space for Lingard...:annoyed:

I have to laugh at these play the B team in all the competition comments. For this game sure, but how do You build a winning mentality like this?
Overprotecting the players and making them think just finishing in the top 4 is enough at this club will again breed the wrong mentality to resurface.
Plus imagine them joining this club to win trophies only to be told that they can't play for the only one available this year, only to protect them for next season which is not even sure to be completed (or even to begin tbh).
Some people should try to think with the head of professional footballers before they are posting nonsense like the above.

I just want to see James Garner playing a Bruno's role, James and Chong playing as traditional wingers.

Interesting, my initial thought was Garner behind with Fred and McTominay in the middle of the 3, but I like it.

My boy Maguire will start and the rest will be rested.

This is exactly what I'm thinking Ole will do.

We have 11 days' rest till this game. Then 5 days' rest till the next game.

I know the temptation is to play the reserves. But if we did that, the first XI would be without competitive football for 16 days. That's too long, and could hurt our match sharpness.

As much as I'd love to see a team full of kids, I think playing a majority of the first team is the only way to go.

I partially agree with you, but I don't think 16 days is too long; they do need rest and I don't think the QF opponent will be anywhere near the level of any PL teams we've played since the restart. Too many comments are leaning way too far the other way, though.

Folks, there's three weeks between the EL Final and the start of the 20/21 PL season. Seriously... come on.

    So here's my projection:

    Romero
    Dalot - Laird - Maguire - TFM
    Fred - McTominay
    Mata - Garner - James
    Ighalo

Seven of these guys have started league matches in the last 12 months and Ighalo has done well in non-league starts, so it's a solid 2nd string, no-nonsense, squad to get the job done. Pull Garner and Ighalo back a level each and you have a 4-3-3, and they can drop into a 4-4-2 with Fred and Scott splitting out wide, Juan and Garner pulling into the middle, and James roaming free on either side to feed Odion.

We might give up a goal, but I think we'll score, too. MUFC 3-1 LASK

Why would one hate a worse player to be replaced by a better player for the final? It doesn’t require being an Einstein to understand that playing a better player may lead to better result.
We replaced a worse player with a better player in the FA cup semi final and it worked a treat.

It will be interesting to see who plays as it may give an indication of who might be leaving this summer. Will he play Dalot, Pereira, Mata, Lingaard?
On the other hand he may use the games as a shop window

Surely, we should play the reserves in this game, given the tight schedule the players have been through since lockdown ended. I would even expect the second string to win it, rather than just go through. Something like this, would be good:

    Romero
    Fosu-Mensah - Bailly - Rojo - Dalot
    Fred - McTominay
    Lingard - Mata - James
    Ighalo

For the remainder of the EL we should gradually include more from the strongest XI as we progress and meet tougher opposition. This is still a trophy we should try to win, so the players develop a winning mentality. Hope Romero plays the remaining games, though, including the final should we get that far - he deserves it.

He is still in Argentina I believe and not due back any time soon.

    ------------Romero
    Laird-Bailly-Mengi-Devine
    McTominay-Garner-Fred
    ---Chong-------James
    ------------ Ighalo

Kovar, Dalot, Taylor, TFM, Galbraith, Puigmal, Levitt, Elanga, Mellor

LASK tie is basically over so play a complete second string. Then the next round starts on the 10th and it’s three games to the final which is played on the 21st. The premier league have announced should an English club reach a European final they’ll get an extra 10 days rest until their first league game. We absolutely should be trying to win this trophy, can’t believe people are saying otherwise.

Who's been screaming for Europa league?!

The fact is next year won't be a regular season. It's going to be even more congested, it's going to be like post lockdown this season, but for the whole bloody season! I don't think you realise that do you? We have the Euros at the end of this season now so it has to end even earlier.

The season is starting a month later than usual and ending earlier than usual, good luck fitting all those matches in!

Whats more important for United, to cement themselves in the CL positions regularly and challenge for the title, or win a tinpot Europa League that nobody cared about 6 years ago?

There's so much crap in this post it's stinking the whole thread out.

We could technically void this match and still go through. Isn't it an automatic 3-0 win to your opponent if you can't play, or is that just for 5-a-side?

Be like shopping at the cash and carry then when a lot want Waitrose

Nice reply, usually happens when you’ve got no answer and nothing better to say

Laird, Mengi and Garner should feature in this game. If Dalot does not even start this one then that's it for his future.

I've seen those same old tired arguments so many times, just not worth it.
I think tiredness is a perfectly legitimate concern considering how we limped over the finish line, but everybody is welcome to decide differently.

Having a good rest, then a solid pre season is hugely important.

United not reaching the FA Cup final a blessing in disguise. The starting 11 can get a much needed rest now and if Ole plays his cards right those players should not be seen in action again until the quarter final against Copenhagen or Basaksehir on August 10

    Perfect

It would be nice to know how seriously LASK is preparing for this match. Assuming the second XI can avoid a 0-6 or 1-7 scoreline, it would make more sense to play the best XI in the Europa Cup and rest the best XI for the preseason, imho.

I imagine most of their starting 11 see this as a big game to show what they can to Europe. Big stage for them. So i'd expect to see as many starters as are healthy and fit.

Ole will probably pick 2-3 regulars. I'll guess Maguire, Greenwood, and Williams all start. The rest will be changed.
