I'm surprised that people are surprised to see Maguire starting.

Regardless of the opposition and circumstance, he always starts. That'll change when we get decent depth at CB, but that's how it goes for the time being.
This. Maguire’s the club captain, just played every minute of the league season and has started nearly all of the cup games.

With Tuanzebe and Jones out, and possibly out the door, it wasn’t hard to see this coming.

Seems like, early in the season, he wrote down Maguire in the starting line up with a permanent marker. I just don't see how he wouldn't need a rest in a game that is as secure as this one.

Decent depth at CB for protecting a 5-0 lead against an Austrian side? If anything, you're just making the argument for not playing him if those CBs can't be relied on in this situation and you're risking an injury to our only CB by playing him an extra 90 minutes.

Is just stupid, Maguire needed the rest for God sake. If Bailly with Mengi cannot keep a 5 goal lead, then there's problem.

Almost Too Strong of a team but these lads need to get fitness from somewhere if he’s going to rely on some of them for the rest of the competition. They were horrible against Norwich but this is far easier. One thing is Maguire should have been given the night off. Ighalo to get a goal or 2 with Lingard getting in on the act. Easy nights work where we play keep ball and pick them off.

No shit. He's off to some Portuguese farmers who would get destroyed by our B team.

The same farmer league one of best players has just come from? The same farmer league our last Balon D’Or winner came from.

Everyone in the squad needed a game.. The only change could have been someone playing for Maguire.. but no other senior defender is probably fit.

Issue without Maguire is non of our CB is good on air.

Ole at the presser: "There won't be much different team from first game against LASK"
CAF: "yep, what I was expecting", "good"
    Team announced..
CAF: "why Maguire", "Why Williams", "Watch them get injured", "should have left bruno, pogba at home"

Got the 11/11 today. Would have rather Maguire & Williams didn't start but it seems like Ole has really given up on Dalot when he can't even make a 12-man bench for a nothing game! Jones is just a colossal crock.

Team is fine. Even if we lose, we arent losing 6-0 or 6-1.

It will allow some of the b-team to get minutes that they deserve, as we still have possibly three matches after this. And if one of our first teamers get hurt, we will need to put in one of these guys (as we wont throw in a youth team player this 'late')

Williams im surprised is starting, but that also depends on what Shaw is like

The only disappointment for me is Galbraith not even making the bench. Aside from that, it's as expected.

Yep! He started against the likes of Tranmere in the midst of a busy schedule this year already. I don't know how some didn't see this coming.

Well, I didn't want him to start myself. I think we overplay him.

I was just stating facts. As things are right now, regardless of the opposition and circumstance, Ole will always start Maguire if available. It's common knowledge.

Am very surprised OGS is risking Williams. If he gets a muscle injury, we are screwed at left back for 1/4 finals and beyond.

    Dalot is a goner

Surprised to see Maguire start, it’s a free game so it’s odd that we would play a first team player in this match. Hopefully he doesn’t play the full 90min and we get to see some of the younger lads play.
Considering how much we paid for him I'd start him every minute too.

    Great selection from Ole.

No reason that team can't win this game, let alone defend a 5-0 aggregate lead.

If the expected happens and we go out then more than happy with that too.

People shouldn't underestimate how next season is going to be brutal.

Love that team. Hope to see Chong, Garner and Mengi

Strong line-up. I expect a few youngsters to feature at some point.

The next game is only 5/6 days away, so it's a good lineup to get players needed match fitness and time, then bring on a Garner, Chong, Mengi, and a couple first team players. It's a straight knockout competition starting next week, so United will want a result tonight if not win, and have good momentum heading to Germany.

Surprised to not see Laird on the bench. Other than that, expected this.
Garner and Chong to come on at half time and Mengi by the hour mark.

Genuinely feel for Maguire. Playing again. I know it would have been an extremely inexperienced defence with Mengi lining up next to Bailly, but with a 5-0 advantage you'd have thought we could hold on for 90 minutes.

PS) With Dalot unable to even get a sniff in this match its obvious he has no future at United.
PPS) How nice it is to talk about Man Utd actually playing matches and not BS transfer rumours. :D

Maguire should be able to sleep walk through this match,to be honest.

God knows why he felt the need to start Maguire when we're 5-0 up and playing at home.

Not really surprised by that - but I am a bit disappointed that no other youngsters than Williams get a chance

Would have been safe to give Garner and Laird a start
