I’d give that half a 5/6 out of 10. Solid but uninspiring. We really need to move the ball quicker a lot more, we’re still too pedestrian.

Fulham like to commit to the tackle when the ball is played in front of their box. There's space to find there.

Overall we look pretty good. Mazroui looks good. Somewhat tall, athletic, and good with the ball. And he has a good football IQ. We've had too many players without that.

Bruno needs to realize he as a left foot.
    Rashford okay
    Amad looks like he belongs

I know we're not winning but no idea how anyone can say this is as bad as last season. Completely different. We're controlled, patient and the press has been good.

I'd hoped with a change of backroom staff, coaching staff and a few additions that we'd see something different this season. However it's still very much same old same old. Maybe this is as good as it gets under Ten Hag, I just don't see this team suddenly clicking and becoming a consistent winning machine. It's a bits and pieces side at best, apart from individual moments, this doesn't look like a team is ever going to emerge from this setup.
Pathetic post. First game of the season..

    Good:
-Best defensive half I can remember Mainoo having. The change in system seems to be suiting him in this regard
-Mazraoui can pass forward, which really only Shaw could do among our fullbacks.
    -Bruno getting into goalscoring positions

    Bad:
-Mount doesn't look like he can beat a man or get separation off the ball, would be nice to see Zirkzee come on, especially with Mount having a yellow
-Dalot/Rashford no chemistry on the left. Need Shaw back for these types of games where you need width against a team clogging the middle.

Sloppy start but once settled we've been decent. Press has been good and we've picked up a lot of recoveries and interception. Mainoo, Amad, Mount and Maz have looked good. Typical Casemiro going from sublime to the ridiculous

We're lcking the cutting edge a natural CF would give

Seriously what’s happened to Rashford? He’s just not the same player anymore. I don’t sense any threat from him anymore.
Hope he proves me wrong 2nd half

He's lost pace and agility since his back injuries that 1 season.

Not sure he'll ever regain it back.

Bit like the City game, poor in the first 20 minutes or so and played well for rest of the half. Created some nice moments and Bruno has missed two you would expect him to take.

Hopefully we don't regret not taking our chances once again.

That wasn't bad, need to keep it up. I wanna see the new guys soon!

Started a bit shaky but we’ve grown into the game. More importantly the players are playing at a much higher tempo than most games last season. Just lacking that finishing. I feel good about this game, as long as we keep at it the goals will come.

Took 15 mins or so to get going but after that it's been pretty much all us.

Our press looks a lot more coherent and a lot more secure, they haven't really broken through the centre, and only on the wrong once due to Traore being an Olympic sprinter.

The downside is that our attacking play still looks a little laboured, we're badly missing a striker, but even then we've created a couple of brilliant chances, let down by Bruno's poor finishing.

RVN must be either laughing uncontrollably or fuming.

Those chances are incredibly easy to finish and we somehow fluff our lines.

need zirkzee in there to play up top and give us a crossing threat....rashford just can't beat anyone off the dribble anymore, he's not nearly as pacy as he was a year ago

Let's see how consistent refs will be when it comes to booking for diving this season

First 25-30 wasn't convincing but then we got better. Not perfect of course but it's clear the system has changed. Stats back it up as well. 61% possession and 0.89 xG is satisfactory.

Mount is a great component for our OTB pressing. His work rate is really impressive, no one else has that in the squad. Some good

Maguire is immense. How people don't rate him but regularly watch United is beyond me. He's absolutely immense. And this high line / on the ball nonsense should go away as well. He's absolutely suited to that too.

Mazraoui at times wasn't really sharp but I like him already. Potentially better than Dalot IMO and it's already clear how he fits our style of football much better compared to AWB.

Rashford should be in more advanced positions IMO. Too close to the touchline, this role is not maximizing his strengths.
    What is xG?

Are you all okay with this style of football? My worry is that this style of football makes us very vulnerable to counters. The opposition always has a good chance to score and I fear Fulham might just do us.

The press actually worked and felt very different from how we played last season. That's also because Maguire and Martinez and both the full backs have been really good.

The front 4 are not in sync mostly due to Rashford and Mount. Amad has been ok and faded as the half went by.

Pretty decent but needs to improve and is certainly better than last season.

Score and win this game and people will be talking about this being a great performance.

I like the strategy and we're clearly just missing a striker at the end.

Has anyone noticed that despite having a lot of the ball, it's mostly just left>right and right>left horizontal play and that the players are terrified of anything remotely resembling a forward, central short pass?

Garnacho on for Rashford and we should win this.
And Zirkzee for Mount, bring Bruno back to #10 and use an actual striker.

Also, De Ligt for f...ing Maguire...

Why the ... did we buy these people if we are not going to use them? And "they need time" is BS. Mazraoui is on, from minute one, no reason why De Ligt shouldn't have been. Very confused wtf is wrong with Zirkzee that he missed City game AND this

RVN has some serious work to do, the chances missed against City and now Fulham are dreadful

What has Maguire done wrong at all in this game? Other than the dive?

Fulham are very compact and deep. Their most dangerous moments have come when we've lost it trying to force through the middle and they've broken. Being patient and waiting for the opening is probably the way to go, although it's a stressful watch at times

It's good to see so much optimism here. I thought we looked no different to last season, which stands to reason since the manager and team is essentially the same except Rashford has snuck back in somehow.

We're noticeably less open in midfield. The top 3 conceded less than 41 last year, then Everton on 51 and us on 58. We look set to get that number down into the 40s with this system, just not sure we'll score any more goals.

Yeah, there’s clearly instruction to play cautiously.
