Why in the name of great Auntie Carols hairy old fanny are we playing with three at the back?

Didn't think Romero would start over DDG, but he earned his place. Hoping for another good game from him again

Just realized I got 9/11. I had Lingard and DDG. Romero getting a lot of action these past few weeks. I think it's a little more than fitness rotation.

We drew with Rostov and Chelsea were on already on top by the time Herrera got sent off.

We got a decent result in Russia and Chelsea were on top but the tactic worked well.

If we get to the EL final, it will be bizarre if we play him over De Gea.

Romero is more than good to play all the way. He's good enough for a number 1 at a lot of teams left in Europa.

I'm not convinced it's three at the back. Neither of Blind or Rojo are suited to a wingback role. Blind would be ideal as the left sided of the three CBs, but seems a weird choice for a wingback. On the other hand, now seems a weird time to be experimenting with Blind as defensive mid as well.

There is certainly some Good Cop, Bad Cop going on with Luke Shaw. Mourinho is certainly the latter as it is understood the left back is not injured but was never going to be in the squad for this one allegedly.

Yet Good Cop Gareth Southgate has named him in his England squad. To be honest there is no justification for Southgate to choose him but if it is done purely on giving the lad a psychological boost then fair play to him. Shaw needs a Good Cop at the moment.

Got 9/11. Forgot to take out Tony Martial. Decent enough team. Don't care how, just get through to next round. We should win this.

I doubt we'll drop De Gea if we ever face a good team. It's kinda like what Conte did at Chelsea for the FA Cup, he played Begovic all the way up until they faced us.

I might be wrong but Mourinho has often trusted second goalkeepers in cup competitions hasn't he?

Any system that reduces Pogba's defensive requirements is the right move, and I think Jose worries Carrick doesn't have the legs for the press which is why he's going for the extra CB.

He was told to mark Hazard tightly when he was on his side, and Darmian was given the same instruction when he moved to the other side. But it was a 4-4-2 with Jones and Darmian the FB's with specific marking responsibilities.
Yeah. I somehow convinced myself that Valencia had started that game and was covering the right wingback position.

8/11, wasn't expecting a back three. Though I should've been, considering the last fixture.

Romero too. Considering the significance of the game, thought he'd go with Dave just to be safe, not that Romero has been bad.

He plays in cup competitions, we've played more cup competitions in the last few weeks. I wouldn't read too much into it.

They have a total of 4 subs on the bench. It will be hugely embarrassing(dare I use that word) to lose to them.

On the bright side I did say it'd be Romero in goal, but on the downside when I set team earlier today I forgot to put him in :annoyed: would have given me 10 points.

    United's absentees
Rooney and Martial are injured. The fact that Martial was training separately with Shaw and Schweinsteiger suggests they could be nursing knocks as well.

Schweinsteiger did get “a little problem” ahead of Bournemouth. Shaw started at Bournemouth but did not make the 18 against Chelsea.

Darmian has fallen out of favour in recent months.

No Rooney, Martial, Schweinsteiger, Shaw or Darmian in the United squad.

    No surprise with Rooney.

Keeping him fresh for the Palace home game so he can have a romantic send off.

I think we'll do them quite comfortably, after all they aren't used to a proper football pitch.

    Could be a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3...

Interesting to see what we do

A must win game and DDG is on the bench. Guess who is off to Madrid?

    I don't know, Hazard?

Romero starts Europa games generally. Have you missed that?

The more interesting thing is the formation.

Surely he hasn't suddenly decided to play Blind as a defensive mid, so what are we doing!

Romero has played most EL games so far. Mourinho is clearly giving Romero gametime in the EL and resting De Gea. It has nothing to do with if De Gea is leaving or not.
