This formation is shite. That's our main problem, not Pogba's current form.

What's the point in having three central defenders against a parked bus? The only thing they're doing is get into each other's way time after time while there's no one to support Valencia on the right wing. He's constantly coming up against 3 or 4 Rostov players, because they know he's basically our main threat out wide.

I also don't think Blind is suited for this wing-back role. He lacks the technique and speed to cover the whole wing.

I fully expect us to put a couple of goals behind them in the second half (they're bound to open up a bit in search of a goal), but this game is too much Van Gaal-like for my taste so far.

Our quality of football is far behind the elite sides in the CL.

The likes of Bayern, Monaco or Dortmund move the ball at a high tempo, with lots of clever dynamic movement in the final third and with a much better understanding between the players. Their players think faster, move faster and make much better decisions. And of course, they are far more clinical in front of goal.

Our tactics are conservative, we take ages on the ball, pass the ball to feet first and then look around for a free player, don't have good (any?) movement off the ball barring Mkhi, and resort to long balls to the flanks so Valencia/Blind can put in crosses blindly into a packed Rostov box. It's very non-inventive, predictable and mundane from United. I wish we could pull out some clever moves/passes/runs to unlock their defence, but we simply don't seem to have that quality.

It doesn't help that we keep changing formations/players every other game. We still have no idea what our first eleven is even. There's no cohesivenes in our play.

3 centre backs can work if you have a player like Hazard in attack to drag defenders around the pitch (like how Darmian was following him around on Monday) and if you have two proper attacking threats at wing back. Valencia is alright at that but Blind isn't going to go past anyone so they can always leave him one-on-one in defence.
We only look dangerous when either Mata or Mkhi play one touch passes forward at pace at the moment.

Yes of course the aim is to get to the next round however you can, but our lot have issues with concentration so you can't totally depend on that.
