I can’t even tell if that Everton team is full strength or not.

Interesting no Martinez yet. Swap him in for Malacia and that's our strongest possible 11 though. I'd expect rotation midweek then

The Shaw at CB decision is an interesting one. He's clocked up a lot of minutes so if you're not going to play him LB surely you start Martinez?

It is probably 9/11 our best side. DCL for Maupay and Patterson for Coleman would be our best side this season. Not the prettiest but it's at least fairly compact as the City game showed and should be enough to get points on the board and stay in the league (Yes, I realise for our best side it's still rather weak!)

    Very happy with that team.

I think ETH is trying to give as many minutes as possible to Varane & Shaw as a CB partnership as that most likely could be the CB pairing for the Barcelona game with Martinez suspended.

For Charlton? It's 8 days til we play City.

It’s more about the accumulation of games rather than just resting for City. Casemiro came straight back in from the World Cup and played five in a row.

We beat this shower away last time with a Ronaldo open play goal, that involved him running in behind their defence.

Of all the different, and entirely accurate ways in which you can say that Everton are shite, this must be the most damning of all.

Reckon we'll line up something like this

    ------------------------ De Gea
    Fernandes - Martial - Rashford - Malacia
    --------------- Eriksen - Casemiro
    ---------------------- Varane
    -----Dalot ------------------------------ Antony
    ------------------------ Shaw

Fair. It seems like the bench is quite strong, but I’m aware that I haven’t really watched Everton much this season. In my mind only Begovic and Simms wouldn’t be first choice players, probably McNeil as well to be fair.

Christ says a hell of a lot about who EtH trusts at the back. Is this the last season for Maguire and lindelof?

Maguire and Lindelof started last PL match against Bournemouth and have been rotated. If United can get out of the gates quickly and assume a 3 goal lead by the hour mark, then we'll see changes. This is PL opposition and we should bury them. This is a free hit for Everton, but need to kick them while they are down and send Lampard packing.

Wouldn't make sense to rotate in this game when we have an easier game a few days later which is more appropriate for rotation.

It's not wise to make 11 changes for Charlton even if they are lower league. Could have changed half the team tonight and then the other half on Tuesday

Strange not starting Martinez in this one with the two biggest games of the season coming up. Would have been the perfect game to warm him up after the world cup.

I now see why people complain about how the team is shown on these announcements. Stupid. Or the media team don't know where people play, or they don't want to give away our formation. :wenger:

He will come on with 20 minute to go.

It’s on ITV. Even if you’re not in the UK, it’s really easy to just log on their site and use a VPN extension in Chrome or Firefox.

I think it's more that this is the best formation for us currently and these are the best players that fit into that formation. Gray is our best option from Maupay/Gordon/McNeil etc. to play off DCL when he's fit. Doucoure is probably leaving this month. Davies is not better than those three. Holgate/Mina/Godfrey rotate between being the best option but I have most faith in Godfrey going forward.

Makes sense to play a strong team in this one then hopefully rest a few on Tuesday, only surprise is Martinez not starting

If Erik prefers Shaw to Maguire and Lindelof, it means their days are numbered. Explains why we are being linked to several young Centre Halves

Shaw at CB despite other options, fair play. Can only assume Martinez needs to be eased back in. Far more likely to start Tuesday I guess.

Taking no chances with that starting 11 which could well also start against City in the PL. Looks like a lot of tonights team won't be playing or starting against Charlton in the league cup

Plus those regular staters not starting against Charlton are likely starters for the City match.

I am surprised at Martinez not starting.

Shaw back at CB is great
One swallow does not make a summer.
I don't see what is wrong with Lindelof. Not the quickest but doesn't do much wrong and is a utility player that can play anywhere at the back. I would keep him.

EtH prefers a left-footed CB and Shaw has shown he can do that. But as someone also alluded to early, which is a great point, Lisandro is suspended for a match against Barcelona. So this is good match time for a 'preferred' back four for that match.
