    It's at home :nervous:

Result could be anything, but in no way do I expect us to put in a strong performance, where we would clearly deserve to win.

    DDG
    AWB - Varane - Lindelof - Shaw
    VDB/Fred - Matic
    Greenwood - Bruno - Sancho
    Ronaldo
This for me. Obvs Telles for Shaw if fit. Matic and VDB.

Under Ole we've often done better when teams come to take the game to us because counter attacking suits our players. Our general issue is breaking down compact teams. I'm a more confident about us taking on Atalanta than Villarreal for example.
Agree with the counter-attacking part. But Villarreal didn't sit back. They sythed through us at will and should've been 3-0 up at half time.

Cavani has to start, that's for sure can see Fred Mctom again in a 2 Lindelof Varane Telles, AWB . Can't see Shaw making it. I'd play Sancho again as well looked like he's getting up to the speed if things on Wed. But this won't be popular no Ronny .

    DDG. AWB .LINDELOF. VARANE TELLES
    ...,...................FRED....MCTOM.............
    SANCHO.......BRUNO ......POGBA.......
    ......................CAVANI...........

Cavani and Lingard look hungry and changed the game tonight. We’re at the stage now where the team should be picked on merit so I’d go

    De Gea

Bailly - can’t play Dalot after that tonight
    Lindelof
    Varane
    Shaw (think he’ll be back)

    Matic
    Pogba
    Bruno

    Ronaldo
    Cavani
    Lingard

    Hard game. 2-1 Utd
    Like that front 3

Can we just get a game where we don't want to make desperate subs in 80+ minutes?

    This is massive banana peel.

Not only is it 4 days after the Lord Mayor's Show. It's also (hopefully) the last match without Maguire and Rashford. If we can get through this with 3 points, I'll have a lot more confidence for the rest of the season.

Not looking forward to Doucoure, Gray and Townsend running through our non-existent midfield.

Wasn’t this fixture away last season also early enough in the season and Ole was on sack watch ?
Anything other than a win and we might aswell settle for 4th

    Atkinson, Moss, Dean and now…

I've never hated a face more than I hate his. I challenge anyone to find a more punchable mug.

I'm always anxious to watch us at home because it could quite possibly ruin my entire weekend if we lose.

    DDG
    AWB - Varane - Lindelof - Shaw
    Fred - Matic
    Greenwood - Bruno - Sancho
    Cavani

Can't see Ronaldo starting as he needs a rest

    Ole will probably select: 4 2 1 3
    De gea
    AWB Lindeloff Varane Shaw
    Mc Fred
    Bruno
    Greenwood Ronaldo Lingard

    I would like to see: 4 1 2 3
    De Gea
    AWB Bailey Varane Telles
    DVB
    Bruno Pogba
    Sancho Ronaldo Martial

Unless Shaw is 100% fit, we have to be using the squad and use Telles and he needs game time. I saw no evidence that Lindeloff and Varane compliment each other and when Lindeloff plays, we tend to play a long ball. Two pacy CB could be worth a try, i thinm Bailey and Varane has potential.

Cavani has play a role but maybe he is not ready to start yet. His run rate is incredible, even in his mid 30s.

I went for Donny in a defensive playmaker role, he needs games and a run. It is ridiculous how everyone else gets minutes but him. I would abandon the AmC position Bruno plays, pair him with Pogba as two advanced central midfielders with Pogba offering more support to Donny and Bruno making runs into the box. Controversially I went for Martial. Give him 45 mins, he needs minutes and we need to use the squad. Id like for Greenwood not to start, he will effectively get a few weeks break, maybe he comes off the bench, but he needs to be nurtured at his age. His game has dropped off recently, maybe a short spell on bench keeps him competitive. I feel like Sancho needs to be given his opportunity on the right. Why not try it at home, we usually beat Rafas teams, attack, fluidity and balance is key. I feel the Ole selects, we are so unbalanced. MC fred are similar, Pogba is not a left sides winger and Bruno would be better off making runs in ghe box from midfield, we need to be unpredictable.

My formation will not be the one for everyone but we are at home, we need to be more positive and try something different.

I must admit, I have some minor difficulties understanding the sudden need to start resting Ronaldo and rotating the squad now, before the international break.

Did you not see the state of him by the end of the CL game? He was blowing from about 75mins in, and having to go all out for the remainder of that game is a problem at 36-years old.

Ronaldo can stil run and sprint for the majority of a game, but by far the biggest pitfall of ageing is recovery post match. After such a hard mid-week game, there's logic to rotating him, or at least subbing him early in this game.

It's not just optimal performance to be mindful of, but also reducing the risk of injury, muscle strains and niggles in particular.

It's gonna be a draw I think, 1-1. Townsend with worldie and Cavani with a late equaliser.
Benitez team historically is able to defend at a good level, and United have not been able to break down those teams consistently.

Start VDB ffs, give him a chance. Pair him with Matić who deserves a start and it should be enough. And for crying out loud stop trying shoehorn Pogba for the sake of it. It wouldnt be an end to the world if he would sit out one game.

Really need to start pulling together some performances eventually as that's the best way to guarantee results but considering it's the game before a two week international break, we just need the points. Just win, by hook or by crook.

I would like to see a 4-3-3 (actually implemented well this time, not the shambles we saw against villareal)

    DDG
AWB - Varane - Lindelof - Shaw (if fit)
    Bruno - Matic - VDB
    Greenwood - Cavani - Ronaldo

Bruno would be a little deeper than usual but still be the more attack minded CM. He can press well which helps too.

But we all know ole, McFred will be back and no doubt we'll see the 4-2-3-1 formation again, with Pogba shoehorned on the left because he had 1 decent game there against leeds.

    Christ, another one??

One thing I know it will be a real struggle again if we don’t start Cavani, someone who can actually keep the central defenders busy on and off the ball and not be bullied. Don’t make it easy again for them by having no striker to worry about.

AWB, Varane, Lindelof, Telles Matic, DVB, Fernandes, Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani

    Team should be...

    -------------------De Gea-------------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Varane--Telles
    ---McTominay-------Fred---
    Sancho-----Fernandes-----Lingard
    -------------------Cavani-------------------

Subs: Henderson, Dalot, Bailly, Matic, VDB, Pogba, Greenwood, Ronaldo, Martial

I'm concerned about fatigue after Wednesday night and the quick turn around to this game (12:30pm KO FFS) so I'd want to see some freshness introduced into the side. Could be a risk that back fires but so could playing more or less the same XI again

Will definitely be a game for McFred.

Allan and Doucoure are a physical, combative midfield duo (both are up there in terms of tackles made this season)

This is what the team should be. Also, tell the full backs to not get forward as much so we can't be countered. Let them be defenders since we'd have enough attacking talent on the pitch anyway. Id like to see Bailly and Varane together though.

I would like that. just need to ensure that Bruno's position is inline with the middle 3 and not the front 3 making it a 424/4231.

Ronaldo will obviously start. He’ll start most CL and PL games

Tricky fixture on a stadium we tend to falter.

4231. de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelöf, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo.

Yea i would go with that line up. Hopefully Pogba is dropped.
