The doom and gloom in here’s unbelievable, I think most should probably go out for the day and ignore the game.

I can’t wait for kick off.

    +1

It's a home game against scousers. How can any United fan not want us to twat them?

I want Lukaku to hammer a couple in and celebrate wildly infront of them like he did last season.

Hope we twat the scousers today . My son has gone and taken his 6 year old nephew to his first game so need the win .

    DDG
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Mata
    Rashford Martial
    2-1 (martial, pogba)

Anyone even slightly looking forward to this game?

Not sure I’ll even bother watching. Had enough of my weekends tainted this season.

    Entirely understandable.
Watching United used to be a real joy as nothing used to seem impossible, especially late goals.

Now, I get so apprehensive. Now it seems like nothing is possible.

I am sure that the players feel something similar which is why many are so lacking in the most important thing - confidence.

Hopefully a few wins will change all the negative feelings - hopefully...

Nerves are building now. Media consensus is that Jose will stay until the end of the season and then go. I bet Pogba will be gone before next season also unless Woodward has worded him that ZZ is coming next season.

Leaked team according to MEN is:

De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw, Fred, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Rashford, Martial

    Lukaku dropped.

Luckhurst did also include this caveat: "The Lukaku dropped tidbit emerged yesterday afternoon - as posted on the MEN. Always worth stressing the aforementioned XI is not the confirmed XI. Team leaks have often featured deliberate errors, possibly to disinform opponents or to smoke out the ‘mole’ who has been leaking the teams. That said, the XI which the MEN received the night before the Chelsea game was 100 per cent correct."

Lukaku does not deserve to start IMO. If the news about him being dropped are true, then I hope Mou comes out and says so instead of sugar coating it by saying he needs rest/he's injured etc.

With the way the fixtures play out over the next month, we've got a great chance to make up some ground and get right back in the mix.

You’re being very optimistic there. We aren’t nearly consistent enough to have a great chance at anything this season.

I doubt Valencia will be coming back into the team.

The feck, why would any manager do that?

    Back to 433?

Based on the leaked team, I'd like to see:

    Martial Rashford
    Fred Matic Pogba Mata
    Shaw Lindelof Smalling Valencia (c)
    De Gea

I'm expecting a squeaky win, they'll start better than us, score first, and we'll come back for the win.

Is it too early to get the gods out?

Could be 4-4-2 with diamond in the middle, Mata at the top, Matić bottom with Pogba and Fred either side.

Valencia, Matic and Lukaku don't deserve to be anywhere near this squad. Some of the youngsters must look at their performances and wonder what they have to do.

Sorry but no true Manchester United supporter would ever want their team to loose, for whatever reason.

How many fans on here have said we shouldn't be playing this player or that player in a Cup game as we have an important league game coming up. Or they're glad when we get dumped out of the cups as we can focus on the league. Or we should play a weakened side so as not to jeopardise a top 4 finish. Or they don't care about the League Cup or Europa League., etc., etc.

I don't see any difference. Anyway we deserve a decent result today. Feels like so long since we actually smashed a team! :(

If Lukaku has been dropped, I hope he's not going to continue playing his hoofball because that defeats the whole purpose.

Really sick of his shit football.

Add Young, Rojo and Darmian to that. Get rid of them and instantly lower the wage bill as well.

I hope Lingard is back, I think playing him on the RW drifting inside and hopefully linking up with Mata would work great. We need more runs and interchanging play up the top of the pitch.

Valencia's not in their list of players who were at the hotel yet he's supposedly in the lineup. Okay.

Exactly - the tactics need to change
I really hope he doesn't set up the same way. I can see him saying, 'I dropped Lukaku but they weren't much better'. He's so bloody devious.

I'm not that confident really. Remember end of last season games like Brighton and West Ham how clueless the team was even without Lukaku? Do not be surprised if we are again poor.

Sadly, that's what I'm expecting. Then he'll throw Martial and Rash under the bus again. Am so fed up.

It was the something last season when he got Injured and Rashord/Martial were up top and we were hoofing long balls to them. They struggled so much.

The tactics are more important than any one player. Fact is it doesn't matter who plays the team is poor so it doesn't make any difference. I hope for a nice surprise today so let's see but I'm not confident.

How would some of you cope with supporting a perennial midtable club?

I love the club, not the reflected glory. Can't wait for the match to start.

Why? So he can give more ammunition to the media and Jose out brigade? He’s told us the truth about players in the past and he’s been attacked for it. So I wouldn’t expect anything other then the bullshit that every manager says. ‘Bit of a rest’, picked up an injury’ blah blah blah.

We need to play on the ground it's very simple. Nearly every team in the PL plays football on the ground.

Agree. Not sure I can take another piss poor performance

Rashford's movement as a striker is even worse than Lukaku's. Without his movement, his lack of physical presence becomes a problem. Remember the first game against Leicester where he was a nonentity?
Sanchez should be the one playing up front if he's fit. Regardless of Sanchez or Rashford, both would be useless if we resort to long ball tactics.

When was the last time he threw anyone under the bus? Genuine question. He takes about the team, the club. The press talks about him, and individuals. Of late anyway that’s how the story has been. Unless I’ve missed something?
