    Mourinho wants to win
We need a victory to keep our distance and give us a chance to finish top four, so it is two teams that want to win.

We've spent upwards of 500m on 19 players in post Moyes era. 4 being free transfers/loan. That's more than 30 million spent per player for whom we had to pay a fee, and this is the lineup we come up with

I try to think of a team that wasted as much money as we did

I know he has only been a bit-part player but he's been a really good servant for us.
The guy has been here for 6-7 years getting 120k a week. He's been a wage thief if you compare that against what he's actually contributed.

Ashley Young deserves to be captain. From being almost hated on here by many, he's one who cares about the fans. Just follow him on twitter and instagram and it shows that he's just a down to earth guy so happy to be playing for United and knows how to behave outside football as a United player.

    Well done, Ash!
I am a nice and down to Earth guy as well, doesn't mean I should start for Manchester United.

No one going to mention the obvious hair dying of lamps?

Chelsea players dropping like flies. They are trying to make the game more even for us.

It'll be interesting to see how our side of shrinking violets plays without Ibra's leadership.

Chelsea's worst player gets injured and replaced. This day just gets better and better.

The state of the line up suggests so, with the EL mind. José should be able to beat Anderlecht at home with a weakened side. We are without far too many of our better players tonight.

That does not suggest we are the underdogs to Anderlecht. Clearly we are not underdogs to them.

This is harsh. Mourinho knows we cant get the top four so he is saving us for Thursday and its the correct thing to do.
The top four is in our own hands surely? In which case Jose is displaying no confidence whatever in his team if he's putting all his faith in the Europa.

There's just no chance of a win in my opinion. Even though I don't rate this Chelsea side as good as many Premier League champions in years gone by, you can't deny the solid base they have that has allowed them to be consistent. Kante, Hazard, Costa... they aren't going to let that sack of shite we have out there beat them.

People keep complaining about Tree and now Young being captain. Now on NBCSN in America, Robbie Earle gives Young flack. Wayne Rooney is our club captain and rightfully so is finally being phased out.

Our club is being cleaned out and Jose has that responsibility. If Wayne leaves, we will undergo another significant change starting with club captain under Jose.

Today's match pales in comparison to Thursday and if that fact hurts people, so be it. That's the unfortunate reality and state of this club.
    Sad but true.

Looks at the league position and the teams ffs. Of course we're underdogs. No sane person expects us to win.

I new someone would respond to this without looking at the post i'd quoted. I was responding to someone who said we are underdogs to Anderlecht not to Chelsea.

It looks like both managers have agreed to field teams where each player cancels the opposition player out

Also, this captaincy thing, yeah Young isn't a bad shout, but others who should be in contention imo are de gea, Valencia and rashford. Though he is only young rashford seems to have a mature head on his shoulders, could be future captain material so could have let him give it a go. Don't agree with forwards as captains in general though.

You're right, it is in our hands but if you were the manager, would you have confidence in this team of bottlers? We'd need to win all our games in hand to get into the top four and even then, we play a lot of the big boys. It's really unlikely we'll do that when we can't even beat Hull, Bournemouth or West Brom. Liverpool and City are simply better than us whereas out of the remaining teams in the Europa League, only Lyon look like a threat.

Being realistic, given our remaining fixtures we're probably not going to get top four. The team looks like it's running on fumes right now, we have to go all out for EL as it's clearly our most likely route to the champions league.

For some reason we're waving white hankerchiefs of surrender in the South East corner. Not the thing to do with that fecking line up.

What's sad is the fact that we even have to rest players for Anderlecht at home. I was told that we tried to defend the 1-0 in the away leg because it was a strong position to be in.

If we didn't rest players , Jose will get hammered for not rotating.

    He'll get hammered both ways.

Remember few years back when people would use the argument that in order to compete with the best, it was a simple matter of spending a lot of money on every position? It's almost as though that was a ridiculously simplistic approach.

Sky are so gutted. They are going to hammer Jose if we lose.
