Despite the ghosts of Burnley past, is McFred really needed for this opponent?

I think he simply considers this to be his best midfield. McT is becoming more of an offensive player now anyway, not really a DMF these days.

Starting Rashford instead of Cavani is just weird, I'm glad to see Ole persisting with Pogba on the left rather than just against big teams, and nice to see another #9 start for Mason.

No Cavani i dont like, why play him in midweek if it was an either or situation:(

Much rather Rashford was rested for this or at least on the bench. I’ll assume the medical staff know how to manage him though.

A full week until our next game tbf.

Seems like it's this, although could see Greenwood and Rashford swapped.

    Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Greenwood Fernandes Pogba
    Rashford

I like the lineup. Not because I believe without Cavani is our best XI but because I want to see whether we actually need a new no 9 or no. Whether we can trust Greenwood & Rashford next season.

Mata getting on the bench ahead of Amad is a bit sad really, but it is what it is.

Yeah think he will only make the Europa Squad now for rest of the season unless Mata picks up an injury, so only a maximum of 3 more games in my opinion

    Fulham closing the gap
    Dodgy line up from us
    Moss as the ref
    Recent history

Yeah i dont have a good feeling about this :nervous:

Two week rest in the international break, one week rest across this last week and another week rest coming up after this.

He’s our best attacker (Pogba and Bruno are midfielders), play him.

Not in a game like this. I wouldn't mind Mata's creativity and set-piecces if we need a goal

The manager probably see VDB as no 10. The player himself also see himself more a 10. Well, his best position at Ajax had been a 10.
Probably, but he played at CM in two consecutive games against Basaksehir and Southampton back in November, and those were imo his best games of the season. Today might have been a good game to play him there if we need a bit more creativity. McFred is the perfect pairing against big 6 teams, but I always maintain that they are just not creative enough against teams like Burnley.

Shouldn't have left Cavani out here IMO, need his goalscoring instinct against teams like Burnley.

    No Cavani ?!
    Doesn't make sense at all.

Mata getting on the bench ahead of Amad is a bit sad really, but it is what it is.
I guess if we can only make 3 subs, Ole is unlikely to trust Amad at this stage ahead of other options. So if we have an experienced option like Mata who he does trust at this stage it makes sense to have him on the bench as a useable option.

Unless Amad has picked up an injury, I'd have preferred him to get a start with the U23's v City on Friday if the plan was always to leave him out the match day squad today.

I'm quite happy with this team. Thought Cavani would start but I guess there is a reason why he doesn't...

Would like to have seen Cavani start. Bit disappointed he’s been benched considering he’s our best attacker and on form just now. Burnley will no doubt be targeting Rashford’s ankle. Bunch of horrible cnuts.

I think he simply considers this to be his best midfield. McT is becoming more of an offensive player now anyway, not really a DMF these days.

I agree it’s a very strong midfield that should smash Burnley and that’s my point. We should take advantage of our situation and start bedding in Van de Beek, or at least determining whether he’s really to PL football or not.

Hope we play Greenwood up top with Rashford on the right, not a fan of Rashford playing as a 9 particularly when we know the opposition will sit deep and defend,

Forget paying £150m for Haaland when we have a player that has potential to reach similar level.

I don't understand ouf using of Cavani. He is our best (and only) striker. He played 60 minutes in thursday, our next game is in 6 days. Why to bench him?

I don't get the point of playing Cavani for as long as we did Thursday if he can't start here. I hope that doesn't cost us.

Cavani has been a world class player, and has been a good signing for us at this late stage of his career. But I think, if we can afford it, this is why we need to look at another centre forward this summer.

He clearly has injury issues now and, more than that, he's got a mental issue about his body - only playing if he's had a good training session, not wanting to have too many starts in a row just in case, etc. All perfectly understandable given his age and injury issues, but far from ideal for a club playing as many important games as we do, and often weekend, midweek, weekend.

Long term, we really need a main striker who has a body that can cope with that kind of schedule, rather than one having to have his schedule carefully managed.

Still starting Rash. It's crazy not to trust other players and rest him.
