Exactly. Considering our performance against Southampton, I’m genuinely surprised Amorim has gone with this starting XI. That said, I’m still hopeful we can grind out a win.

Mainoo is not creative enough to be deemed a CM. Bruno at CM is much better. Compare Bruno and Eriksens ability on the ball to Mainoo and then he does look like a CDM and so does Ugarte even if he is front footed.

If we played 2 at the back? I'd say yes for Jose style football, two physical big units whose main weakness is pace.

If we played two centre backs? I suppose so although it would be a bit of a throwback. Two big strong guys who are good in the air, good in the tackle but not very mobile or that amazing on the ball.

Problem with that is Brighton are the kind of team you need ability and quality against; no amount of heart can stave off having rings run around you as your own zeal is used against you.

We either match them technically and strategically or get humiliated.

Odd that Yoro is selected to start again and Martinez benched. Midfield pairing of Mainoo, Ugarte looked dead on their feet v Southampton surprised at least one isn't on the bench today. I hope such gambles by Ruben works and United get a positive result.
