Me too, they have had enough training sessions now to understand and implement what the manager wants. Most are simply not good enough.

A sensible post. The legitimate criticism of De Gea was his obscene salary. Yes, he did make mistakes but we spent 50m on a keeper who makes even more mistakes. ETH dismantled a mediocre squad and turned into a poor squad, led by a keeper who would get nowhere near a top ten PL squad and probably not any of the 19 other PL squads.
50m for Onana and now we’re cutting staff Christmas presents and stopping small charity payments. The contrast is so stark it’s unreal.
Getting a LWB when we don't even have a suitable second is a priority.
Getting a striker that can actually score is a priority.
Getting a RWB that can go forward is a priority.
Getting a CM that can move across the ground is a priority.

Just thinking about ETH -- maybe he was overimpressed with his own ability to teach players? Onana (for example) seems to be just likely to make a blunder as a great save.
Also it seems like he was trying to perfect a style that had no attackers. Many many many nil-nil draws was his plan, perhaps?

If your point is it is far more important for a goalkeeper to actually make saves and keep clean sheets than all the fancy footwork bollocks, sure.Maguire having to carry the passing from the back 3 and midfield in this game is not ideal to say the least.

He pretty much singlehandly ruined our last season, especially in Europe. What I don't understand is that he's so bad at basics that it's hard to believe he has trained for the goalkeeper position

We’d had a bad start to the season, but this system alienates the players that were doing well under the previous manager like Mainoo, Garnacho and Mazraoui. We can’t completely rebuild the squad every time we sack a manager, we don’t build on anything.This 'stopping play for a head injury' needs to stop. Unless the player is motionless/unconscious then play on.
As bad a manager as Erik is there was still an uptick in form when Ruud was in charge so there's still feasibility for these players to be used under very specific parameters. The real struggle has been the chalk and cheese difference in system between the two contrasting coaches.
It's INEOS's poor planning and judgement that has set United up for failure this season. I do hope post match there's much emphasis on their incompetence as executives at the club. This is the fruit of their labour failing to sack a manager that underperformed only to bring in a new one mid season, with no use of the window and a congested fixture schedule.
I think the telltale signs is that this ownership will continue to fail under their leadership.
