As good as they've played in the past against us. I don't think we should worry to much. We have momentum. At home, we need to clear our heads of this difficult game idea. Under our last managers, we were mismanaged and next to useless most weeks. The players should reward themselves with 3 points by not undermining the effort we put in over the last 5/6 games. If we get an early goal hopefully it will be comfortable.

A little rest for Rashford and Herrera please. Jones out please.

I'd like to see us field more or less the same 11. Games against "easy" opponents which tend to be difficult when they follow a win against a top opponent. The team really needs to be up for it.

I would like to see Fred feature though, as I think he needs games to get going. Perhaps rest Matic, put Herrera in Matic's place and play Fred in Herrera's role.

We have the whole week to recover for this and then another whole week before Arsenal. There's no need to rest anyone here. Burnley at home midweek after Arsenal is maybe when we could rest a few.

This has banana peel written all over it, but I think we'll still grind out a deserved 2-0 win.

Need to retain focus here and not think that after Spuds, this is a cakewalk.

Chris Hughton is a tactically astute and underrated manager and has made some shrewd signings that he has gradually integrated. Brighton have a settled, solid defence built around Dunk and Duffy at CB.
    .
Need to keep momentum. This is not a fixture to make wholesale changes.

Hope we get a big win here, and no need to change the team too much. If we're ahead by 2 or so, we rotate.

Maybe start Sanchez and Dalot though.

Everyone seem to be clamouring for Jones to be dropped. Did I miss something?

We did the hard work against Spurs, so hopefully we don't bottle this one while Arsenal and Chelsea face each other.

I'd play Lukaku over Rashford. Because Lukaku looks terribly rusty and an easy home game might be what he needs to regain some form. Rashford can start over him in most games of course, but we need our subs to be sharp as well, and giving him a start in this match may help.

If Smalling is back, time to bring him in. I reckon him and Lindelöf will do very well together under Ole, definitely an improvement on Jones albeit not a huge improvement. Smalling will bring dominance in the air at least, which could be an issue with Murray.
It'll push Lindelof to the left and he is at his best on the right.

It's the same problem with all our defenders really.. Everyone looks worse playing at LCB.. Rojo is injured.. no one else is a natural at that and get their positioning wrong all the time.

You don’t drop your most in-form striker. You just don’t...

That 3 2 loss was by far the worst United display this season so I would Like a 3:0 this time please

We need to keep the momentum, this is a potential banana skin.

Yes, I would name a very similar team to Spurs, with maybe Dalot or Mata coming in.

As I said in Smalling's thread I'm from the school of 'play your best defenders when fit', so that's Lindelof-Smalling, but I'm probably underestimating the problem we have at LCB. It just feels like such a make do and mend situation back there.

Well he didn't cover himself with glory at the weekend didn't he?

On the other hand, I'm not sure Smalling will be back.
He has not exactly been bad, and not many in that defence covered themselves in much glory at the weekend either. It is just that every slightly negative thing Phil Jones does gets blown out of proportion compared to the others. He has been decent under Ole, should be in the team, and rightly so.

You got to factor his previous shockers here I think. Our fans have been let down so many times by Jones, and it clouds their judgement. I'm one of them to be honest. Last year's good run was the last straw for me, and now watching him I'm expecting an own goal or a blunders every second.

I felt Lindelof had shaky moments against Spurs as well, but fans have much more leeway for him compared to Phil, and I can understand that.

I shudder every time I see Mata in these prediction line ups. He’s just too slow to play in a front three. It’s like playing a man down. As part of a midfield 3, fine. But never as part of a front three.

Same team unless Smalling is fit.

    Subs: Sanchez, Fred/Mata & Dalot.

Why on earth would want to rest a red hot Rashford.

People are getting ahead of themselves wanting rotations just expecting to win these games.

Best 11 and keep on going!

Smalling Lindelof is much better than having Jones in. No matter who plays Left or right.

    de Gea
    Young - Lindelof - Jones - Shaw
    Herrera - Matic - Pogba
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial

    Play the same team.

I don't think what happened a year or years ago should be a major factor when deciding who gets to play. Because it happened last year does not mean it will happen again. I'd say it is much fairer to prioritize what has been done in the last six games. It is not like we have Chiellini or van Dijk waiting to come back into the team either.

The same team unless Smalling is back - the players shouldn't be tired they just had a week off in Dubai!

I think the issue is more the intensity we now play with means they get tired in the last 20 minutes or so. Expecting a team to start exploiting this at some point unless we get fitter.

    Love to see this

A little rest for Rashford and Herrera please. Jones out please.

Rashford is 20 years old. He can play probably 2-3 games a week without too much of a problem.
Why do you propose that Rashford should be rested, given that the last game was 7 days ago?
Herrera will be given 7 days to recover, so again, why would he need more than 7 days rest?

I genuinely want to know the logic being used.

I think some fans believe that our players are overweight, balding old men, who do nothing but play a game of football once per week and drink beer for the remaining 6 days.
If a player told me that he needed 10 days rest after 1 game of football, I'd transfer list him immediately. He clearly isn't fit enough to play professional football.

Because we need players to get in form perhaps? Especially Sanchez, who's been injured, Fred and Lukaku.

Sanchez was injured for the last match, so he couldn't even make the bench.
You want Sanchez to not only make a full recovery, but you want him to go straight into the starting XI?

And as for Fred - we need to win matches. Brighton are not a pub team, so we need our strongest team available.
Lukaku - don't even get me started, here. We'll talk about Lukaku after he has lost 10KG. :p

Especially considering there was over a week between the Spurs game and the FA cup match against Reading (where OGS rested most of our first eleven) and in the week before the Spurs game they went to Dubai to work on their fitness. If anything, they need games

You are right, it should not be a major factor about who gets to play. But it should be a factor for planning and team building. Jones has proven time and time again that he can not be trusted, whether that is his regular brainfarts or injuries. As you said, in the previous couple of games we didn't have a better option, but with Smalling back and Bailly serving his suspension, we should consider our options. And with more difficult games coming up, we can certainly improve in defense. Some people think Smalling back or even Bailly might be an improvement on Jones. I'm one of them.

If we're looking for a game to rest players in, it would be Burnley I think. Now we'll have had a whole week's rest, likewise before the next one against Arsenal (6 days). Then we've got Burnley in the space of 4 days. Followed by a 5 days' break before Leicester away. Not a perfect scenario as you must keep your subs sharp I agree but could be much worse.
