Association Football Club Bournemouth (nicknamed The Cherries and Boscombe) is a professional football club based in Bournemouth, Dorset. The exact date of the club's foundation is not known, but there is proof that it was formed as Bascombe FC in the autumn of 1899 out of the remains of the older Boscombe St. John's Lads’ Institute FC. Nicknamed The Cherries (Dean Court was built adjacent to the Cooper-Dean estate, which encompassed numerous cherry orchards), the team traditionally played in red shirts with white sleeves until 1971, when the strip was changed to red and black stripes, similar to that of AC Milan. The club was renamed in 1923 to Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic F.C. in 1923, which was the name until 1972, when it becomes A.F.C. Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have won the second and third tiers of English football, and were twice runners-up of the fourth tier. They have also won the Football League Trophy, and the Football League Third Division South Cup. Bournemouth have spent the majority of their history bouncing between the third and fourth tier of English football. Under manager Eddie Howe, they have risen through the pyramid; the 2015–16 season was Bournemouth's first ever in England's top division. Bournemouth's biggest rivals are Brighton & Hove Albion, Reading FC and Southampton FC. They play their home games at Dean Court, Bournemouth — currently known as the Vitality Stadium.

Mentioned it in the Martinez thread, but want to see who will be our first choice back three. Think we have everyone available now bar Shaw, but there’s still a lot of chopping and changing in those positions.

Appreciate the games are coming thick and fast, but feel we must define our preferred back line asap and stick with it as much as possible.

I don’t think Martinez should be in the first choice back 3 with his current form, but I’m not sure who should take his spot, I’d go with Maz in a Yoro, De Ligt, Maz line up.

Yeah I’m not sure who it should be either. We almost have too many choices. De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez, Lindelof, Yoro, Evans, Mazraoui, Shaw.

Would like to see a set back line asap.

This is going to be a very tough game. Tougher than City I think. Hopefully we can win.

First time in a long time, after losing a game I'm not really worried about the next, and looking forward to it.

Yeah me too, our improvement as a team will gather pace quicker (and I think it’s moving fairly quickly already) with a settled back 3.

Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw would be great but Shaw is never fit so for me it’s Yoro, De Ligt, Maz.

Tough game, they are currently a better side than us. It has really dawned on me how average a lot of our players are now we have a coach capable of implementing a successful system.

Will be difficult. Like Spurs they are a good pressing team and we're still rubbish at transitioning out of defence.

Tough game but would hope we can win this given the lineup we put out today. They are excellent at pressing and not much else. Need to cut down on stupid mistakes on the ball and push them back or it will be a nervy 90 minutes.

Bournemouth have been great for some time now and we lost last time at Old Trafford conceding cheap goals so this'll be difficult game.

Bournemouth in some decent form coming into this game unbeaten in their last four games.

United need to bounce back with a win after tonight's frustrating loss and a small measure of revenge for losing 3-0 in Old Trafford against Bournemouth last season would be nice.

Feels so important to get a win here. The Spurs result wasn't great, but the performance wasn't bad overall, and there is something to build on.

Just go with the strongest possible team. For me that would probably be:

    Onana
Maguire - De Ligt - Martinez
    Mazraoui - Mainoo - Ugarte - Dalot
    Diallo - Bruno
    Højlund

I think we probably need both Maguire and De Ligt to try and get the best set piece defenders in there, and I thought Mainoo showed some good stuff from his cameo.

Looking forward to each game now, which is nice. It's no longer horrible to watch us.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Martinez
    Mazraoui Ugarte Mainoo Dalot
    Amad Bruno
    Zirkzee

I'd say this is our strongest 11 right now, with the CF's basically just rotating based on form. Give Zirkzee a run out with these guys though I think he'll link up well.

It's Martinez, De Ligt and one more. Sometimes Mazraoui at RCB, sometimes Maz at RWB with Yoro at RCB or Maguire at RCB and De Ligt goes out. Dalot LWB. It's pretty stable I'd say when 4 of the back 5 are pretty set and constant.

Maguire as the mid CB definitely improves that team. Otherwise, I’d agree. Ideally I’d probably switch Maz and Dalot around (as Dalot is just outright bad at LWB) but we seem very resistant to that approach for some reason.

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Martinez
    Mazraoui Ugarte Mainoo Dalot
    Amad Bruno
    Zirkzee

I could maybe see Casemiro coming in for Ugarte for this one, but think otherwise it more or less picks itself.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Antony at either of the wing back positions tbh.

Not sure Martinez warrants a place on current form. I think on Sunday it will be Maguire & De Ligt, plus either Yoro or Maz.

He was so poor last night but good against city. I don’t know why we haven’t tried him at LWB yet though. He has the energy to get up and down and give us width that we miss badly. His crossing can’t be any worse than Dalots hail Mary’s off his left or cutting back slowing things down and then skying it on his right. LWB is Antony’s only chance of still being here next season I feel but the manager or the player is reluctant to try it

    Assuming Maz isn't fit:

    .........................Hojlund........................
    ..............................................................

    ..............................................................
    Antony..........................................Dalot

    ...............................................................
    .............Yoro......................de Ligt.........
    .........................Maguire.........................
    ................................................................
    .........................Onana.............................

They're in pretty good form...think we'll lose this.

The league is really compact in the middle. If we win this we go ahead of them despite being 7 spots behind them. With some of the other games this weekend (Villa play City, Brentford play Forest, Spurs play Liverpool) this is a chance to move up the table. Going to be optimistic and say Hojlund gets a goal and we win

Agree. Hopefully Ruben won’t reward poor performances in the way ETH did. Maguire was excellent against City too, so surely warrants a place if fit.

Think we'll struggle to score and eventually get caught out. a bit like last year's disasterclass.

    Four nil United.

This game last year. Just horrible.

Martinez was excellent vs City, provides passing that nobody else can, and is the only one who is left footed which is a must at LCB for Amorim. The only competition to his place is Luke Shaw, who can't stay fit. So like him or not, Martinez's place is safe for any game he is fit and fresh for, and he'll only be on the bench when he is being rested.

    Onana
de Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Maz - Mainoo - Bruno - Dalot
    Amad - Garnacho
    Zirkzee

Yoro won't play every game at his age and Maguire will come back.

Martinez looks weak but no real left footed competition for his place.

No chance he plays that midfield

    Subs: Højlund, Eriksen, Antony.

We win 2-1. Amad scores first.
