Agreed but I'm not really worried about challenging for the title yet. Just being excited to watch the next match is enough for me. The clean sheet annoys me more because Dave has to be frustrated and I hate that for him.

Smalling is sort of that but he's shit on the ball.Amazing improvement from the team. The real new test for me will be playing against a team with defenders/defensive midfielder that can actually pass the ball forward while being pressed (because lets face it, so far the opponnents were really poor on this end), it's the only way to see if there's some kind of balance in the team.

Yep, it's set piece defending. Our open play defending hasnt been bad these 3 games. It's all awful set piece defending which was a thing during Mourinhos time here too. Pretty sure it was a weakness under LVG too. We need a centerback who can organize everyone on set pieces and really dominate the box IMO.

Yeah, most fans seem willing to put up with a bit of fragility if we get our attacking mojo back. I must say it looks like there's some drilling we could do now, there's no reason these players should be quite so bad from set pieces, but as you suggest Jose's 'the defence is bad so we can't attack at all' mantra was infuriating.
I don't think we going to sign an attacker but damn yes we need to sort this defense and we can go all the way hopefully.
