Bruno doesn’t play in Midfield. It’s literally the two behind him that’s the problem but we somehow throw he and Pogba into that discussion.

But he should, I'm starting to think that I'm crazy and have imagined his qualities as an actual midfielder. Not that they are similar players but it feels like refusing to use Iniesta as an actual midfielder, you can do but it's not a good long term idea.

People still desperate for VDB ffs

can you imagine the hiding Ole would get for playing say Scott and VDB in midfield

He says he wants balance and then picks an awfully imbalanced team. Genius.

That’s the problem. Bruno forces us to play a 2 man midfield.
Bruno doesn't force anything. He is poorly coached. He wanders around as a striker, evidently having a free roam to do whatever he likes, occupying Ronaldo's supposed role for no reason instead of Ole yanking him back to midfield where he can connect the middle of the pitch with the attack.

I said nothing of the sort and if you check elsewhere I have said we should give Fred and Donny a run as the midfield pair playing B2B. Donny had struggles in the West Ham game, he looked better than before and there was enough to suggest he should get more chances but in a must win game it is hard to fault Ole for going with the pairing which has brought him most success. We can hope that if we string a couple of results together to ease the pressure Ole will be willing to experiment but with his back to the wall it was inevitable he would revert to what has been his most successful line up.
What success? I can't remember a single match this season were we've actually been good aside from the Leeds game. There's a very high chance we're losing this, but even IF we win it, I can 100% guarantee that it'll be another plucky underdog win that ultimately we won't deserve.

I agree he was decent and I want to see more of him but his fanboys go on about it like he put on an exhibition. He lost 4 out of 5 duels contested, played only 1 long pass the entire game and was defensively poor on their goal. There were things to like and to build on but it was hardly a flawless performance. I personally would pair him with Fred but sadly McTominay is from the acadamy and so he has an extra dose of the crucial United DNA which our opponents fear so much.

Not everyone who wants him given a chance is a fanboy. And no one is claiming he doesn't have weaknesses - he's not a ball winner or great defensively. But he does have strengths, based on his Ajax days. He can rotate possession, find space, is better at handling press, good at linkup play and makes runs into the box. We have not even given him a chance to show what he can do, after spending a lot of money on him.

Match thread so divisive even the fellowship is tearing itself apart.

Ole just confirmed on BT that it's a 4-2-4 system.

FFS it's a case of nothing learnt isn't it...why can't he play Bruno deeper in midfield??

Ole has said it's now we need to show a reaction to our poor form. Let's fecking have it lads.

We gave him top talented team and he even at home games against only solid team brings McFred in. No words.

Because he also said the fans want to see a more open, attacking system.

    That's down to poor tactics.
It doesn't help that McFred aren't great, but they definitely aren't that bad.
The tactics we use will make most midfielders look poor.

Exactly what I'm saying. At this point it's hard to criticise any of our Midfield pairs as since they All suck it's a coaching issue!!

    What is imbalanced about it?
Bruno, Rashford, Greenwood & Ronaldo in the same team? No width, no variety, no press. Greenwood & Rashford don't create, they're just direct, cut inside & attack for themselves, Ronaldo will get no service, Bruno will be out of position all game because Ole can't coach him. It's a shocking line-up & will be proven so tonight.

I think offensively, AWB's decision making is too slow. Shaw's is barely fast enough when he is in form. We dont move the ball fluid and are extremely predictable.
I like McTominay as I think he has big game potential. He often looks like the only guy on the pitch sometimes with his wits about him. I am ok with Fred and Scottie as long as Fred doesnt do any bonehead plays.

The success of last season. He has tried to play differently at times this season and it has backfired so he is reverting to what got him 2nd Place and a European final, like it or not we have a significantly better record with McFred than without. The fact he cannot make it work when he tries to change things is why I have lost faith in him but this was the most obvious team selection of the season as with his job on the line he is going to go with what works for him. I am too much of a fan to want it to fail and too tired of crap like the Leicester game to want him to continue. Rock < Me > Hard Place.

He has to work with what he has, and he's playing them in their best positions. Shocking is a bit much isn't it? The idea is that McFred provides a solid base in midfield and let our forwards attack freely. Last time starting Pogba Matic away to Leicester was suicide.

It is about maager's instructions ffs.
Bruno played as no8 in his career, Pogba plays defence in France and did it in Juve, Rashford tracked back and played simple as classic winger under Jose, Sancho tracked back in Dortmund, etc...
    Players play how manager says

Why would you want a player who gives the ball away s cheaply as he does in midfield?

Hmm not sure I agree with that Rashford can be creative at times

Think it's pretty imbalanced. Greenwood has gotten better at running / creating second half of last season and Rashford's alright, but our primary creative outlet is still Bruno (and maybe Shaw).

I think we got Sancho in because we wanted more creativity in this line up but he's not firing, so not a lot we can do there. With this sort of setup, if Bruno plays well, we look amazing. If he's shit, the team's shit as well.

Hope Bruno has a stormer today and slices Atalanta apart and we can break out of this negative cycle a bit.
