  • Don't feel like we get pumped anymore like we did under ETH but we've zero goal threat so think it'll be a boring, low scoring affair

Arse will still win comfortably though, probably without even getting out of second gear

    0-2

There are a lot of doom mongerers in here, United are no worse today than they were a few weeks ago when Arsenal couldn't beat a 10 man side

is it predicted to be a significant protest tomorrow?

The last few have been quite modest but things are probably different now

The players looked gassed at the end of Thursdays game. I don’t see how we save face vs Arsenal (I.e not get spanked) and have any fit players available for the La Real return leg. Sucks to be Amorim right now :(

We're starting all our first team. What are you thinking guys, it's Arsenal. Do you want to get battered by them? Also I don't see why we can't beat Arsenal, they don't have any attacker in the line up and their form apart from last CHL game is not that good.
Would be borderline criminal to start most of the regular starters. This game means absolutely NOTHING. The Europa League is the only chance of salvaging the season, and that game is a few days later.

Makes absolutely zero sense to start the likes of Bruno, Garnacho, De Ligt, etc. Doesn't mean it won't happen, but it's a serious point against Amorim IMO if he doesn't realize this.

The alternative is to start a bunch of youngsters and Amorim will be a dead man walking if he did that and we got spanked. We may aswell get spanked with the first team. At least it shows there character. Other teams such as Liverpool can play their first team in the league and then the champions league so no excuses as to why we can’t

Crazy seeing Brentford lose but still have clear daylight between us and them in 12th. What a horror season

I'm shocked anyone could believe this. So we should make it harder to win the Sociedad knockout game for pride against Arsenal?

I think that's ridiculous. I'm the opposite of you; I'll have lost much of my faith in Amorim if he's actually stupid enough to play our best team against Arsenal.

A match that was a knock out cup tie to this a fairly meaningless league game and had Magurie,Martinez,Ugarte,Mainoo,Amad who played in that FA Cup match who won't tomorrow.

Yeah cos we have the squad to be making wholesale changes
Other than Dalot and Bruno, these players have had their minutes managed since the turn of the year. People on here talking like we’re sending the same eleven out every game playing 90.
these players have actually performed worse in the past when they’ve had a long period of rest between games.

This place and its obsession with resting players or thinking that PL footballers will all have a stroke if they play a Thursday Sunday two weeks in a row is fecking mad.

Why risk anything? Any of the players could get injured, for one. And a week is hardly "a long period of rest". Garnacho, Bruno, Zirkzee, De Ligt, Mazroui, and Dalot should all sit at least half the game against Arsenal. They've all been essentially constants playing 2x a week the last few weeks.

Maguire and Ugarte were both recently hurt with "knocks" in games. And 2x of full 90s likely does lead to worse performance.

There's just no stinking reason to risk anything. The game vs Sociedad is literally 100x the importance to the club. Play the kids against Arsenal. Heaven, Obi Martin, Amass, a few other academy players... Then add in Lindelof/Case/Eriksen. You can make an 11 without adding more strain to most key players.

That away game we gave them cheap corners and didn't seem to understand they were playing for them. It's almost as if we weren't bothered about having to defend against a ruthless set-piece specialist team.

Hopefully a bit more common sense this time around.

Maybe the players are also thinking about the big picture. What's the point in winning a personal duel in the here and now? How would that help?

What kind of manager would that make him if he chucks his youngsters on and they get slaughtered. That’s basically throwing them under the bus. And who’s saying anything about making it harder to beat sociedad. If professional footballers can’t play 2 games a week then there’s something seriously wrong. Like I said teams in the champions league play strong squads on the weekend and midweek. No excuses as to why we can’t beat sociedad Thursday.

We aren’t in the same position in terms of depth as those CL teams though. Liverpool for example changed 3 players just after half time and then a further 2 in the second half. The brought on Robertson, McAllister and Jota then Endo and Quansah - all of those players would arguably be in the starting line up at United. We have a threadbare squad meaning players haven’t been rested/rotated and are visibly tired.

Fair. But it’s still suicidal to chuck in youngsters against Arsenal where they are more than capable of scoring 5+ goals. The hate he would get would be unbearable. If anything he’ll go strong to start with and then take players of in the 2nd half when we’re probably already losing. Imagine if he did what people are saying he should and rotate today with youngsters playing and then we get beat on Thursday anyway… it would all be for nothing.

Saw an ESPN video, they were doing a combined Man Utd Arsenal XI and they all picked Merino over Hojlund as the forward and I couldn't disagree.

Shows where we are, Arsenal at home at 4:30 on a Sunday and I think I might continue with the power washing instead of watching it. No excitement, no style of play and worst of all, no hope.

You obviously can't chuck all the kids in but there are certain players that should be nailed on for this.

Lindelof, Eriksen, Obi, Mazraoui, Garnacho (no 90 mins in a while), Casemiro if Ugarte is back by Thursday.

That leaves the bones of a side with the other constants that will have to play.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Lindelof
    Max Case Bruno Dalot
    Eriksen Garnacho
    Obi

I'd ideally replace De Ligt with Heaven, but think that would be complete suicide and throwing the lad under the bus a bit.

    Yet they beat PSV 7-1.

I watched that game for the opening 30 it was an exception being that PSV were so poor defensively, Arsenal could open them up at will. You could discern this from 5 mins into the game.

Aside this I can't see United losing but I can't see a win so will predict a draw.
