Antony must have had a hell of a training session to get picked today

    I'm in two minds.

    Rashford
    Sancho Eriksen Bruno
    McTominay Casermiro

    or

    Rashford
    Sancho Bruno Elanga
    McTominay Casemiro

Is that what you want? McT and Cas in CM…?

I must say, for all the stick McT got over the last few years (even just to the extent that he shouldn’t be a starter for us); he seems to be in most poster’s line up.

As far as I can see, he is the same player. Willing, strong, good at carrying the ball, good shot on him; poor positioning, poor showing and receiving the ball, poor in possession.

He’s surely not what we want in there. Yet he had a couple of games where he didn’t shaft us and he seems to be first name on the team sheet.

And here we also have Eriksen who is probably the opposite. Not as strong and tends not to carry the ball but so much better on the possession and passing side. And we have Cas to do the bullying.

I like McT but as a squad option and rotation for Cas (not to play with him).

His pace still scares CB’s, if we play Ronaldo they know they can push up and make life hard for us

To be fair the exact opposite happened last game. The defenders weren't remotely bothered by Rashford as they knew they could just out muscle him.

I wouldn't have started Rashford but I can see him getting some success on the break. Arsenal are quite weak on the counter so it'll be a question of if Rashford can hold up the balls he receives (probably not) and run the channel (you'd hope)./

Yeah I noticed that also, but the only way to learn is to get back in there and try again so maybe he plays better today if they try and rough him up.

Like you said, arsenals defence is pretty poor, I expect Rashford and the other forwards to scare the shit out of them.

It’s probably more the fact he knows how ETH wants to play more than Elanga. Also, the difference in ability is huge.

I think we are asking for trouble if we play McT and Ericksen in midfield. I would've though 4-2-2-2 will provide us with more security. Oh well - learning curve I guess. I don't think we'll beat them today. I hope we don't lose.

    Ten hag really likes Antony.
He's played under ETH and his system for a few years, plus they're probably doing a lot of the same training drills he's used to as well. Makes sense really.

Although I'd have loved it if he was on the bench and came in the 60th to a rapturous ovation and set the PL alight (bit like Ronnie's debut all those years ago)

Won't happen but for games like this id throw in Fred and Casemeiro with Erikson over Bruno. Just a tight solid midfield with enough attacking

I will admit, it's been a while since I've wanted us to win so badly. Which is probably not good :) Should tame our expectations. I hope Casemiro had a chance to fit into the squad by now and will start. Alas, we still don't have an obvious striker–Ronaldo has his obvious issues, Rashford is a shitty striker. Meanwhile, they have Jesus.

Antony starting is extremely surprising. He refused to train and play for a couple weeks. He must be ready if ETH is starting him, though. Looking forward to seeing him play.
