The media love Arsenal almost as much as they love Liverpool.
I hope we put them in their place

This. Palace away was undoubtedly a good result for them but their start to the season has been majorly guided by strength of opposition. It’s time they had a reality check.

We need to outfight these feckers.

Win here could put the season on a really good trajectory.

    Come on Lads

Well we hadn't won an away game or three in a row since February so probably further back than that, sometime last year?

We failed to win 4 games in a row in the entire 2021-22 season.

The last time we did so was winning 5 games in a row in March-April 2021, against Man City, West Ham, Brighton, Tottenham and Burnley

This is what I’d like to see but I’d be surprised if we start as offensive as that from the get go. McTominay will start. It’s just weather Ronaldo plays ahead of one of Eriksen or Bruno.

I think Eriksen is quite important in terms of the deep lying playmaker role. It’s an issue we will have this season when he can’t play.

People were impressed with Casemiro’s passing range the other night so I guess the question is can you pair him with Mctominay and give him that responsibility?

It’s not ideal really and our midfield is clearly still lacking. You could go Mctominay and Casemiro but essentially you’d be getting them both to do primary roles they aren’t their best at (Mctominay is better further up the pitch and Casemiro better next to a DLP he can unload to).

The way other results have gone have made this game massive, even though we're early in season. A win changes the dimensions

Can't play too defensive. Need a balanced team. If Antony can start then we should play 4-2-2-2. With at times either Bruno or Eriksen playing false 9.

    DDG
    Dalot-Varane-Martinez-Malacia
    McT-Casemiro
    Bruno-Eriksen
    Antony-Sancho
I’ll eat my cat if this is anything like the starting lineup

    I think we’ll have

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Elanga
    Rashford
    Sancho

Antony, Fred, Mctominay, Ronaldo will all be introduced at some point.

If we just look at how ETH has chosen his last starting elevens there should be 0 chance that Antony gets more then 20-30 minutes, which may be the best way for him, get his debut at Old Trafford when the fullbacks are tired and not spend all his energy first 20-30 minutes when the game will probably be tight and both teams not taking to many risks. He will be more useful in the second half.

Casemiro should be ready now, but i don't think that he and McTominey should start the game together, i would start Casemiro with Fred or McTominey with Eriksen. Casemiro showed against Leicester that his passing abilities are high, much higher then many believes because he didn't need to use them as much playing with Kroos and Modric as he will playing with Fred/McTominey. So if he plays with Fred then he will be the one trying to cut through Arsenals press, but if we continue with McTominey we will need Eriksen playing the deeper CM role next to him.

Brunos energy is needed up front, Sancho is also guaranteed a spot. I wouldn't be surprised if we start with Elanga on the right and Rashford as a number 9 the first 60-65 minutes just because of our pressing. They both will probably get instructions to press as much as possible and run their socks of before we throw in Ronaldo and Antony for second half.

Back four will not be changed if don't have no new injuries.

    So will probably start with;

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Elanga Bruno Sancho
    Rashford

    and go with...

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Antony
    Bruno Sancho
    Ronaldo

...after 60-65 minutes to try to kill the game if its still a close game. Arsenal will have to start with some players that have been injured and not trained much last week or throw in new guys that haven't played so much lately. Both ways should benefit us.

3-1. Rashford, Ronaldo and Antony to score, Casemiro MOTM.
The most perfect scenario would be to be winning by 1 or even 2 goals with 20 minutes to go to bring on Antony. The atmosphere would be electric and every touch of his would be cheered.

I’m actually quite happy at how confident Arsenal fans are about this match. The perception seems to be it’ll be a comfortable victory for them.

I know it could be and probably is very naive, but the fact that we were linked with Arnautovic, Rabiot before we got trashed in the first 2 GWs and then we bought who we bought tells me that Erik somehow take our foot from the gas pedal to show the Glazer that we need additional reinforcements. Even when we won 3 matches in a row we still lacks some creativity and everyone could see that we needmore. But right now when the window is close there is no more need to show Glazers how poor our squad is to open their check books. Right now Erik can release our full potential and i am 99,9% sure today will be our best effort yet.

I want to see some spirit, unity and running, let them speak at the pitch rather then on social media what should have been done differently.

That silence from their excuses (especially Bruno’s and Rashford’s) in the past few weeks on social media is so… peaceful.
Each time last season i was angry after the matches and reading that BS in the next few days was like fuel pour on fire and i did not have any second to just forget about how poor we were. Right now its just job done, next Please.

C’mon United ! Put them back in their place, is just feckin Arsenal.

I’m actually more excited before today’s match against then I was before the match against Liverpool; an adrenaline derby, we had to hit back and run like it was a matter of life and death.

I feel todays match is the first real test. A good opponent in good form and we have settled more, both speaking of player selection and how we want to play. Today’s match probably gives us many answers, and the most important question (after some positive signs): are we finally on the right track?

Yes I agree. I’m interested to see where we are at this point against a far more settled footballing side.

In theory Arsenal should be winning this.

This is Arteta’s side and he’s had plenty of time to embed his philosophy. By comparison this isn’t EtHs side yet and we are still nowhere near nailing down what he wants to achieve.

Casemiro is well able to keep the passing going. How does adding one of the world's best midfielders leave a hole in the centre?
Because Eriksen and Casemiro are different players and their roles are quite different too? Casemiro’s role is not to keep the passing going and dictate the tempo, never was never is. He is there to help us out defensively first and foremost, break up the play and connect the defense to midfield not to connect the midfield to attack. I don’t know how you came to this conclusion to be honest. Yes, his passing is good for a DM but he isn’t a CM who is gonna help you in transition or switch the play or pick out the passes continuously for the whole game. You need to play someone alongside him for that role ala kroos or Modric.

If we play Casemiro and Mctominay together and the way ten hag is using Mctominay now, it will become too defensive in my opinion which means we fall 5-10 metres back in midfield and with Bruno too high up the pitch, that might leave a gap in the centre for Arsenal to exploit and take control from there. Right now, the way we are playing, transitional play is very important for us to get results till we get more accustomed and acclimatised to ten hag style and we don’t have anyone for that role currently better than Eriksen. That’s why I’m fairly sure Ten Hag won’t be playing Casemiro and Mctominay to jeopardise our transitional fluidity.

I think we have a very very good chance if we have a game plan which focus on exploiting Arsenal’s vulnerability (many young technical players who don’t like it when things gets too physical).

Let’s show them that it’s a difference between mens and boys.

I think Arsenal is favourite if we going into the game with: it’s only Arsenal and we are United…” Think like RM or City who can play their style of football regardless who their opponent is.

My confidence today comes from the fact that Arsenal can't help but commit to attack. It's commendable, but it's also tailor made for our own attacking players. They should get space.

Now that we seem to be able to defend a bit I'd sit Casemiro on Odegaard and that in itself should take a lot of steam out of their forward play

We will need to start off with a high tempo and press the Gooners all over the pitch and ensure that this is definitely not the second coming of Jesus.

    I think we’ll have

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Elanga
    Rashford
    Sancho

Antony, Fred, Mctominay, Ronaldo will all be introduced at some point.

That is my thinking, then he'll bring on Ronnie and Anthony.

Now that we seem to be able to defend a bit I'd sit Casemiro on Odegaard
Yeh.. A very interesting duel. Maybe we also get the answer why RM decided to sell Ødegaard :D , hopefully not Casemiro.

I’m pretty sure RM was worried about Ødegaards lack of speed and physical skills (not work rate!) and that was stopping him from becoming one of the best CMs in the world.

Aye, Rashford, and Elanga to a degree will be back in thei comfort zones if Arsenal pile forward.

Most likely Real Madrid were just stacked in midfield and got a good offer at the time and decided to sell. Just because Real Madrid sold him doesn't mean he cant go onto become a world class player. Big clubs sell quality young players all the time that in hindsight turn out to be a mistake.

Any news on Odegaard, Zinchenko, Ramsdale, Partey injuries?
    Partey isnt playing.

Odegaard, Zinchenko and Ramsdale have been named in the matchday squad.

Expect Ramsdale and Odegaard to start. Ramsdale 'injury' occurred with 20 minutes left in the game against Villa and he completed the match and took all his goal kicks. Odegaard was taken off as a precautionary measure, he walked off the pitch no problems and was photographed in a training session yesterday. They picked up a few bruises and cuts, they are not injured. As for Zinchenko, no idea.

You are right, he scored against Liverpool. After he was moved to the left by Martial coming on and after being invisible for the first half. It was his first goal since... West Ham in January. We played all manner of teams in that time. Rashford can't be relied upon. And definitely not in the role of a CF. He is too limited for that. Keep him on the left or not at all. I'd rather see Ronaldo as 9 instead. Both don't press, but at least Ronaldo scores and can head the ball reliably.
I agree… much rather Ronaldo upfront who’ll get us goals. My original statement was that a rapid front line can cause havoc to teams that play an high line.

    Good one!

    Thank you.
Jesus has been excellent for them so far and will be a big danger.
But our center back pairing are more than capable of dealing with him.
Really looking forward to this one.

I see Casemiro along the lines of Roy Keane. He can do everything a midfielder needs to do. He's been doing it at the top level for years now.

I agree that Eriksen is the better partner for him but given that Eriksen played 90 minutes on Thursday, and the form Arsenal, particularly Odegaard, is in, I would put Scotty in for his energy and have him man mark Odegaard while Casemiro shields and builds attacks.

He's well able to find a forward or wide player with his range of passing or connect midfield and attack - transition as you call it.

Looking forward to this today. Will be good if we can keep our upward trend going. Today will give us a good indicator of our potential.
