I think so too, I'm not convinced that Ineos wanted to retain him but fan pressure was huge after the FA Cup final.
The problem is that we have not progressed technically. We don’t do the basics right and can’t really make what sort of team we are

A DM should make one bad pass a match. Cas is good for 4 or 5 a match and that doesn't work at this level.
That's ridiculous, even the best dms will make more than 1 bad pass per match. Also, Cas has never been a particularly accurate passer and made many misplaced passes in his 1st season with us despite obviously still being a massive net positive. He was the best dm in the world for nearly a decade despite making many misplaced passes.

Interesting that ten Hag moved Martinez into the middle during build up and Evans on the left.

As I said before the game, we lose a lot, in terms of our build play, when we haven't got Martinez. Once the change was made, it might be a coincidence, but I felt we started to look a lot better.

    What’s harsh about that?

At least Rashford didn’t sky the ball for a field goal. He did keep it low, but it was very wide. It’s probably more fair to say it was a poor finish, not a horrifying finish. My apologies to Rashford and his PR team.

Should be leading with those big chances wasted. City's only decent chance came from a United error yet you would think different listening to that prick Matterface on ITV.

I missed the first 20 mins, but I think we've done well with a patched up defense and a striker less attack. Should've scored at least once. Hope to see Zirkzee on for some time.

When we move the ball forward with purpose we create problem for shitty but for long periods of that half, we were trying to just play it (ever so slowly) among the back line as none of the defenders have the confidence to pass into midfield.

Oh without a doubt. The first 30 minutes was brain-dead tactics of passing it between onana, Maguire and Evans and expecting us to actually build it up while not getting the ball into dalot, Mainoo and Martinez. Get your ball players on the ball more is an easy tactic.

It's been alright just desperately wish that Amad had aimed his pull back to Mount slightly better as that would have been a stunning goal.

Martinez has played at left back twice for us now and been shocking both times. I'm not blaming Ten Hag as I was nervous about Amass but I hope the calls for that stop now.

    When was the first time?

Difficult first half as expected. City were the better team for large periods of the half but we had a period in that half where we played some good football and could have scored.

We need to get back on the front foot and get at their back line as they are vulnerable like us.

Garnacho for Rashford and Zirkzee for Mount in the second half and we'll start to look dangerous I think.

I thought so too. He's wasted out there at left back. He's one of our best at getting the ball forward quickly to the front line too.

Frustrating we didn't score. Amad's done very well. It's just a pity that pass to Mount wasn't more accurate.

Casemiro looking great here. Lovely to see.

And although its "only the Community Shield", Casemiro didnt look good against Burnley last year. To see him looking fit and mobile is like seeing an old friend.

Very shaky opening 30 mins but we grew into the game after that and very unlucky not to have at least scored a goal or two as we’ve created the better chances.

Pretty decent showing after navigating the first 20 minutes. Some of those City youngsters look the real deal. Lewis and Bobb in particular.

The vitriol here is a bit over the top. Rashford had one chance and fluffed it. Mount had one opening and wasn't anticipating it, but the pass was also a bit too far ahead of him. Casemiro has looked sharp in the opposition's half, Mount and Amad have linked up well.

Bear in mind that we've not had a footballing pre-season, but a commercial pre-season, without half the squad. So in essence this is the first match of pre-season. And you can see that with sloppy touches, Martinez almost gifted them a goal.

Certainly not the one way traffic it was shaping up to be at the start.

Shame Amass is not on the bench though to take off Martinez at some point and give him some minutes.

I get is preseason still essentially, but man so unimpressed with mount and rashford. 2 players that have a lot to prove this year

I'll change it a bit. A top DM should make 1 unforced bad pass per match. Cas was a wonderful passer in his prime with RM. His 1 touch passing out of trouble was world class. He is 32 now and not close to world class.

Yeah. We absolutely need Licha in the middle. Add Shaw in and we actually have two top tier buildup players in the first phase. I don’t know how good De Ligt is but I hope he can offer something in there for the right side.

Mainoo, Bruno, Martinez understandably don't look fit. Expect better from Rashford.

Amad I love you so much.

Not watching the game - but classic trying to get a reasonable reflection of the game. I’ve seen some say Mount has been crap and some say he’s been exciting

Not an awful half considering it's City but don't see a huge leap forward from last season. still think the ETH contract extension wasn't required or deserved
