I think many on here are underestimating City. City are playing at home and despite being hit & miss during the season, i expect them to win this quite comfortably. They don't have a weak midfield like Spurs and these times Guardiola is on a different level compared to Mourinho.

It's a game of opinions, though. Hope to be wrong, of course.

I think there's a reason to be slightly optimistic on the basis of City looking well off their usual pace this season. For a year and a half, not only were they dominant in possession and full of quality options all over the pitch, but they were also playing at a frantic pace that could obliterate opponents. I believe that midway through last season, after losing 3/4 league games, Guardiola realized that he needed to tone it down a bit. We saw the introduction of Gundogan as an important cog in their midfield and we also saw Bernardo becoming a mainstay in their attacking trident. Both these tactical moves aimed to help them control games instead of playing with foot on the gas pedal all the time.

It worked like a treat last season but during this one, we've witnessed two things: Firstly, they seem either hesitant or unable to turn up the volume this season (probably the injuries?). Secondly, they're not as clinical as they were in the last 14 league games last season. On the other hand, Liverpool seem to be winning their games with great economy of effort because they're lethally efficient in front of goal. Perhaps it's because they're more focused on winning the league while the motivation for City's players is a little bit more hard to find after their two previous fantastic campaigns.

Long story short, City are clearly the favourites but it looks like a match in which a higher tempo for parts of the game might actually benefit us for a change if we manage to keep our shape defensively and shut down the central channels properly.

Of course City play great football, but they are without Aguero and are vulnerable in defense.

We need to show the same intensity as we did against Spurs, our players need to be in theirs' faces and not cower under pressure like we are prone to doing. This is the type of match we need to show that supposed improved physical aspect of our game.

Of course, it could all go tits up and we lose by 2 or 3 goals but we simply cannot allow it due to all the points lost against the likes of Villa and Sheffield. If we had won those 2 games, a point at the Etihad would have been seen as a great result, but right now we have to push for a win if we are being realistic. I hope the players take the incredible support they got from the fans at OT and use it as a motivation to prove their worth, it's a derby after all.

Very dangerous time to play City. Eleven points behind Liverpool with zero room for complacency will really psych City up for this encounter. It's only natural to feel good about a game on the back of a good win versus another top club, but you have to factor in the plethora of consecutive games before that where we looked inept. How many times have United played the odd great game only for it to end up sandwiched in between a number of poor ones?

The one thing we may have going into this game is the benefit of City never sitting back and playing low block football, thankfully.

I'd pretty much keep the same line up as Spurs game, only player I'd leave out would be Young. His constant long balls, as he hasn't got the legs to get up and down the line, will hurt us more against a possession based team like City.If Martial is fit, he starts on the bench, we need as much energy up front as possible v City. The high press we did v Spurs was effective. Greenwood whill not starring in last game was very disciplined in his role. Let him run himself ragged and maybe introduce Martial for last 20 or so. I often find him more effective as an impact sub anyway.

If one team is to win tomorrow its City sadly. 1) home fixture and I would fancy United more in Old Trafford. 2) extra day rest and easier game for city midweek gives them the edge

Vaguely optimistic about this. Probably due to having McTominay back and the difference that made to Fred alongside him on Wednesday.

Just had a look at our fixtures and starting Feb we go on a run on 13 Saturdays. A couple might be moved of course but that’s a big change from the early part of the season.

By that logic we go on a run of 38 Saturdays before every season. All weekend games are Saturdays until fixtures are finalised. Most of those will get moved to Sunday because of EL.

I predicted a tie or a narrow win vs spurs, but this time I have to admit, I feel like a 3-1 loss incoming.. despite their recent hiccups, we’re away, and they’re better than spurs, I feel like game raising, and few tactic changes are not enough to get anything out of them.. I hope I’m wrong.

The pressure is on them. They are the big favourites and at home to a team that don't have a very good away record whilst they have always had a very good home record for the last number of seasons. Also have a far stronger and better squad than us. I think being the underdog and the pressure being on City to win this game will suit us.

Steal a last minute jammy 1-0 win!

A mixture of poor officiating & our own unforced errors have killed us in every Derby loss during Pep's tenure. They've dominated possession in every game but it's ultimately been our own errors that have been our undoing.

Jesus isn't anywhere near Aguero's level. Fernandinho in defence takes away his ability to commit the tactical fouls that they need to stop quick counter attacks.

We've not had a better chance going into a Derby for some time.

Reckon we’ll beat them, or draw. A lot of pressure on them right now, and they’re shakey.

Referee: Anthony Taylor. VAR: Michael Oliver.

Watch the grade A twat Oliver feck us over.

That's not good. Taylor was last years Ref too. Pep put pressure on him before the game. He then proceeded to give every decision City's way.

The less said about Oliver the better. The only Ref i've seen to make up his own rule during a game.

We are going to be on the end of some poor decisions here.

Just seen the reactions for the pundits on ESPNFC about predictions of the game and it's pathetic how dismissive of us they are.

I want us to win even more so now so can see what shit they come up with - especially that twat Stevie Nichol and Ale Moreno.

Just realized this is on Saturday and dunno what to make of that. Is it good or bad or in between?

I volunteer on Sunday mornings, an activity which usually conflicts with watching English footy in Toronto, so I am pretty happy about this.

I'm absolutely thrilled at the prospect!

James and Rashford running again City’s defence sounds like tactical fouls galore

    Quality post.

You just hope things are going in the right direction after a solid performance.. and then boooom; back to square one.

Moreno is the worst of a bad lot.

Yeah there is nothing like proving a scouser wrong, just hope Ole hasn't overly fired up City with the comments.

Fair play to him if he can back up the words with a performance tomorrow, will be big step up from playing a top six side at home.

I think Ole will go with the same team as Tottenham with Shaw coming in for Young.

I hope he does. Young was abysmal against Spurs. He may also bring-in Tuanzebe instead of Lingard, making it a back-3, playing 5 defenders and betting on quick counter-attacks. Our biggest danger is City scoring quick 2-3 goals against us, so starting with a solid defense wouldn't be crazy.

Are these the same moron pundits who kept yapping about "Liverpool and City are way ahead of the rest", all September, until Leicester shut them the feck up? Clueless charlatans.

Winning tomorrow will be extremely hard, but it's not impossible and it would be the best boost for us to solidify our claim for a top 6 position, maybe even resurrect a dream of making top 4. But we'll see. Weirder things have happened.

Can Manchester United win 2 PL games in a row? They never win 2 PL games In a row!

Most pundits are like that, they don't do analysis and come up with anything smart. They feed into whatever story the rest of the media is creating. They were surprised we played well against spurs even though how we have been playing this season shows we do well against the top 6.

Easy 9/11 today. The only questions marks are who plays at LB and does he play Greenwood.
    Likely team
    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire ?
    McTom Fred
    James Lingard Rashford
    ?

I think he will go with Shaw at LB and can see Greenwood getting another run.

Both teams will score. Question is how many. This is the game where we could use shut up shop tactics (which we are incapable of) because if we do go ahead 0-1 or even 1-2 you can always see City scoring and even coming out on top. 3-2. I would put Rojo on at LB if he is fit if we need to tighten up and play him and WB more tucked in. With Fred and McTominay sitting on top of the defense this should prove hard to break down.

I'm guessing the team that started against Spurs will do so again here. Which is fair enough since it was a good performance and there's not been any significant fitness updates. Martial in for Greenwood maybe, but I wouldn't risk it.

McSauce is going to run the show. I'm buzzing for this - chip on our shoulder - something to prove. Don't let me down boys!

McT being the difference? Never thought I’d see the day. Hope it proves to be right!

I'm off Christmas shopping to Cardiff today then meeting friends from work. I'm content if i dont see the game, not because I dont want to but there's a bird in work I'd love to pull and I'm hoping I get waylaid, haha.
