Can someone please tell José that this is not football. I'm sick of watching us going to every match against a club in the top half just to sit back and play the stifle job.

    Play chicken get deep fried!
Get an FFFFing grip.We are away to a team who would just love us to come out and commit to attack. We have looked dangerous ourselves especially through martial & Rashford.
    Man up.

Reminds me of the Spurs game last season, where we were likes this then suddenly 3-0 Spurs.. :(

Fairly meh overall, lacking the dynamism of the Chelsea performance and seem to be giving them a lot of time on the ball. I think we're playing for a counter-attack goal, but that's not particularly come to fruition so far. Wouldn't mind Rashford being moved into the middle at all either.

No way split centre forwards is the way ahead. We need more control from our middle three.

I get the impression that neither side wants to win.....or lose the match.

Don't like the look of this. Sitting back and breaking play was a good idea against Chelsea who played a bit more direct than City are doing. City seem to like knocking the ball around and that is, at times, sending our defending midfielders and counter attacking options to sleep. Our midfielders look slow when they're turning after a pass has been knocked past them and our counter attacking players seem to react a few seconds late when the ball is falling to their feet.

I agree with other posters that United should have gone for a more positive approach in this particular game. Hoping to break up play against a team that likes possession can often lead to player's legs freezing up and them being error prone and bereft of ideas on the ball. I can see that happening to United right now. Let's make some changes and see if that helps.

Rooney would be more useful than Fellaini in this match.

No no no. Fellaini has been good. Especially defensively, hes been breaking up Cities attacks well on the edge of our box. You wouldn't get any of that with Rooney.

Yeah it's not like we miss crucial 3 players or something.

Any team would struggle without crucial players in every position.

But some people will never understand this.

The approach would be fine IF we could actually pass the ball. It's clearly meant to be a counter attack strategy, we're just not doing it very well... At all.

Very disappointing by two of the best strategists of the game. Conservative underwhelming formations from both, until now.

It was always going to be tight. If we played City ten times, I would expect no more than two goals between the teams in each result. A 4-0 to either side would be a freak result and going against the statistical average.

I'm happy with how things are going. They are threatening only from range, and DDG can deal with it. Love Martial tracking Zabaleta and beating defenders every single time he takes them on. Rashford's one on ones aren't going that well on this side, but it's a matter of time before he can do something with the beating of his man. If we had Pogba on for Fellaini, we'd be killing them on counters.

Carrick is key to keeping things ticking in our midfield, Herrera having a hard time balancing his defensive and attacking duties. If only he had finished that header.

I'm optimistic that a tweak or two from Jose can make all the difference. Martial and Rashford are too fast and tricky for their shaky defence, which gets absolutely stretched when the full backs go all the way up.

First time watching Sky for ages. How new is this weird overhead angle for corners. Don't like it in the slightest,it's hard to work out what's happening

When Bravo gets the ball, why isn't Rashford, Martial and/or Miki pressing him? This is something that works to scare the shit out of the city back line. We just seem to be letting them have the ball.

And I thought that was why we fielded 3 speedsters. There has been little or no pressing from the front 3.

The cross that Bravo fumbled had Rashford & co. strolling at the edge of the box. Only Herrera made a run into the box just before Martial pinged the cross.

Our front 3 can do better than this. I am starting to think Lingard would have done better than Mkhi & Martial tonight.

Exactly this. Never seen a side give away the ball so consistently through phases like that. Terrible. No wonder they get battered on the counter by teams that can actually do it properly.

This reflects my thinking as well. If you look at that Monaco game, there was a similar ebb and flow to the proceedings. Difference is that Monaco countered with players like Lemar, Silva, and Mbappe, whereas our forwards aren't in sync and it's often Rash against 2 or 3 City defenders on the break. Need to be more fluid on the break if we're going to play like this.

Dude streaming just turned on Haddaway "What is love". Fair play, drowning out Sherwood (who just compared Mourinho to Pulis)/Bellamy/Keys, good move.

Very cagey from both teams, we've had no connection to Rashford but I expect him to get chances to stretch their defence in the second half.

I trust our defence far less without Rojo in there

Mikhi and Martial have been utterly awful if that was supposed to be counter attacking

Nowhere near both them have been poor. Need to get closer and press in the midfield and feed our front men better. Jose tactics spot on to allow them the ball and counter attack but needing our midfielders to be better. Fellaini is what he is but is effective. Herrera should have burst the net really bad miss.

In the same post you acknowledge that they've been asked to sit deep and criticise our MFs for not pressing. How did you manage that

I'm content with that half. Stifled City for the most part and although we lacked the numbers going forward we had a couple of decent opportunities. Herrera should've buried that header from Rashford's free kick.

A draw would be an okay result, would still keep top 4 in our own hands. Obviously with our run in a win would make things a lot mor comfortable.(Without going into what a pleasure it would be to see the meltdown on Bluemoon if we won)

No no no. Fellaini has been good. Especially defensively, hes been breaking up Cities attacks well on the edge of our box. You wouldn't get any of that with Rooney.
Agree there, he just needs better vision for the forward pass. Also for his height he could make stronger challenges with his head at times. But he has been better defensively
