Liverpool Football Club (nicknamed The Reds) are an English professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Liverpool were originally founded in 1892 as "Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd" (Everton Athletic for short), before finalizing on the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd. after a dispute between the Everton FC board and John Houlding, the owner of Everton's former premise at Anfield Road.

Liverpool's forays into competitive football started when they joined the Lancashire League. After winning the league title in their first season, Liverpool were accepted into the Football League for the 1893-94 season, following the resignations of Accrington and Bootle. Liverpool reached its first FA Cup Final in 1914, losing 1–0 to Burnley. It won consecutive League championships in 1922 and 1923, but did not win another trophy until the 1946–47 season, when the club won the First Division for a fifth time under the control of ex-West Ham Utd centre half George Kay.

One of the most successful and storied clubs in the history of European football, Liverpool have won 19 English league titles, 6 European Cups, 8 FA Cups, and 10 League Cups, peaking in the 1970s and 1980s, first under the enigmatic Bill Shankly, and then his Boot Room successors Bob Pailsey, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool have two fierce historic rivals: crosstown club Everton FC (matches between them are termed The Merseyside Derby), and Manchester United (stemming from the success of both teams as well as the cities' competition in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century).

Here's the match thread. Better late than never... :nervous:

Michael Oliver is the referee for the game.

I was already not looking forward to this. Now we have a red card or dodgy penalty to look forward to against us.

I have faith we’ll raise our game and at least make a battle of it for about 10 minutes, then the flood gates will open and it will be a massacre.

FFS. Liverpool could not have asked for anything better with that appointment. Stars are aligned for them to give us an absolute hammering now.

Honestly if we concede early our heads will drop and they will take full advantage and it’ll be double figures. They won’t let up against us.

Hopefully he’ll swing a few decisions our way to make up for his bad decisions against us in the past and show he’s not biased against us.

You'd think that...but he's also a barcode fan that had his childhood ruined by us and has received money from Oil states.
Then again, he has been known to give a dodgy decision or two against the dippers.

Maybe after Saudi Arabia FC beat us he'll be in a better mood for this game?

Another long afternoon best result is a draw. We can't score goals so what threat do we carry.

This thread feels like the energy you'd bring to a dentist appointment—no buzz, no spark. But can you blame anyone? We’ve seen this story too many times before.

It’s got all the ingredients for a classic letdown. We’ll start with fire—players flying into tackles, the crowd roaring after every challenge, maybe even a brilliant counterattack or a long-range goal that makes you believe, just maybe.

Then comes the shift. A soft equalizer—a messy deflection or a free header off a corner—and you feel the momentum slipping. Before you know it, it’s 2-1 after a scramble in the box, and the belief starts draining away. Just to put the icing on it, Salah breaks away in the 89th minute to finish us off. Somewhere in all this, Bruno picks up a second yellow because he’s frustrated, and it all feels painfully predictable.

I hope I’m wrong, but you can see how this might go, right?

That’d be quite nice, I just see Liverpool flying out the gates getting an early lead and not looking back.

This is genuinely what I want.

Martinez moved central to be the CB who pushes up to join the midfield. Yoro/De Ligt the 2 sitting CBs covering the long balls and playing balls out instead of dallying on the ball.

Mazraoui as the LWB acting more defensive to deal with Salah, Amad RWB for obvious reasons.

Kobbie, Ugarte midfield with Kobbie Pushing up slightly alongside Bruno to offer support to the striker, covered by Martinez and Ugarte. Antony LAM for counter attacking on his stringer foot, but also work rate aling the central/leftside as Mazraoui can't be getting forward and leaving us exposed.

Hojlund running off the shoulder and into channels instead of battling the CBs and looking for runs to be put through on goal.

    Mazraoui Mainoo Ugarte Amad

the only thing up in the air is if we’re getting smashed or if they will go up 2-0 and cruise.

I have a sneaking suspicion we will secure a morale boosting, hard fought 2-1 victory and then get battered 3-0 by Southampton. It is the United way.
A morale boosting 2-1 is possible, but it won't be hard fought.

Salah will have to have one of those days where he's hell bent on scoring and goes on to hit the post about 10 times while ignoring teammates who could tap it in and we'll have to score a couple of deflected goals off van Dijk or capitalise on a bad backpass like in the 2-2 last season.

This sounds much more competitive than it'll probably actually be. Can't even remember when we last went a goal up against these cnuts in the league.

I know we're not doing well recently but this is a perfect opportunity for the players to give a good account of themselves.

Don't make it easy for them.

    Going with a 2 - 1 win to United.
