I think you are right. At least he didn't do a Leipzig and play with seven defensively minded players on the pitch. Pogba is at his best at the left of centre position that he played in against Burnley... Rashford can do a job on the right with his runs ... and Cavani through the middle. I'd have had Martial on the bench. But Ole has taken the view again that we need Rashford through the middle to catch Liverpool out on the counterattack. Problem is he is either not timing his runs correctly or the balls to him are poor. Also we are not getting Bruno on the ball enough to see that killer pass. It is a messy first half but so far unscathed.

I thought United dealt with that superbly and grew into the game after a few nerves. Just need Rashford and Martial to time their runs better.

Our midfield settled down, we began to recycle the ball, win it back, play some nice little passes and try to release our strikers on the counter attack.

We need to play as we finished the first half, and introduce Cavani

Fred has been phenomenal in the game. Snapping at their heels, making interceptions and being generally aggressive. His passes have been horrible but we know that about Fred already.

Matic/Pogba would get outpaced in the midfield. The only issue here is Bailly not starting - which means Maguire/Lindelof can't push higher up the pitch. One would think Ole would start Cavani in a game where Liverpool are playing 2 make shift centre-halves. Cavani would pose more problems for Liverpool's CBs than the current set up.

It's been clear for months now that Martial/Rashford are not strikers.

The Scousers will be right back at it from the first second in the first 15-20 mins of the second half. If we don't change things tactically, there is no way they are not going to score. One of these chances will eventually fall to Mane or Salah instead of Firmino.

Everybody is playing well and the tactics are working so far. We need to be a little quicker to get out wide to defend, and we have left some gaps in front of the centre backs, but its ok so far.

In attack Ole needs to be hammering on everybody to play those quick balls down the channels. We're missing a lot of good runs, and when we spot them we're taking too long to play the pass.

Before the game I would have taken a point and thus far we've looked reasonably comfortable despite how poor we've been with the ball. It is OK for Bruno to be wasteful because his role is to be the one to create and be penetrative but the issue is that the outfield players behind keep giving it away when playing easier, more safe passes.

The line up is mostly fine, it is the way they are played that is a problem. Should have kept it simple, instead of overthinking things.
