Fellaini was great in 2nd half when we beat them 3-0 too. Think there be many who still don't like him no matter how many good games he has

They will pick themselves up...Rodgers is a decent manager...always thought that.

I think we have tougher fixtures ahead...but we look to have found the 'formula'.

lots of running and passing...and some very clinical finishing.

The defence has looked pretty solid too.

Took longer than LVG anticipated but it's all clicking somewhat. Long may it continue.

First and foremost, congratulations to United on a thoroughly deserved win. I expected us to start this game with a high intensity in your face ferocious pace, instead we were anything but, lackluster, lacking in aggression and failing to live with a simple yet extremely effective approach.Moreno at fault for both goals the lads not a bad player, but he doesn't do enough in an attacking sense and his main strength his crossing, is not a tactic we've ever utilised under Rodgers. I can see why he played Sterling at Wing-back, but it's made us look oh so predictable as neither Coutinho nor Lallana make any runs beyond the striker and Lallana in particular, constantly slows us down on the transition with his ridiculously inefficient Cruyff turns.

United kept the ball really well and dictated the tempo with consummate ease in the first half, i was genuinely astounded in the manner that half panned out I can't recall the last time we were that badly outplayed on home turf, Van Gaal got his tactics spot on. Still even at half time i thought with a few tactical tweaks we would still go on to win, however our captain threw the half time team talk out the window within a minute proceeding to get sent off in ludicrous fashion. We showed fight though, and Sturridge finished nicely and on another day we might've got a point or three, top four looks in doubt, but I'm hoping we're not looking back at this game ruefully as the defining fixture.
Once again well done to United on an excellent performance, definitely deserved on the balance of play, although yer don't half take your time with throw ins and goal kicks.

My Liverpool MOTM- Sakho, another assured defensive display and excellent on the ball, will always have his detractors and will never fully receive the plaudits he deserves due to the ungainly manner in which he plays, but anyone who's followed his career will tell you just how good he is. My pick for captain also.

Overall MOTM- Juan Mata- scored a breathtakingly spectacular goal, was always calm and poised in possession and I noticed he was providing passing angles and opening up channels that weren't always taken advantage of. Shut up the Mourinho bandwagon critics also, did more than his fair share of tracking back.

Great game, hopefully there is a few more twists and turns yet. :D

Ya Sakho was good overall and composed. Definitely there will be more twist and turns till end of season in race for top 4. By no means it is done and dusted.

We have finally found our best midfield combination.

    Herrera, Carrick and Fellani.

Mata was obvious for MoTM. But Fellani for me was magnificent....

We've stumbled across our best midfield and attack. Can't leave Mata out now, so Di Maria is relying on usurping Young.
That feels mad to write! But it's true.

I'm going to give van Gaal some credit here....its not just the combination of players....but the way we have started playing....dare I say his 'philosophy'...has been accepted?

I think we could replace Carrick with Blind if needed and Fellani seems to have filled that box to box tackling midfielder we have been wanting (at least for the time being).

We will need to invest in midifeld in the summer.

And no doubt van Gaal will play different formations....but the running passing pressing and interceptions that come with such football is here to stay.....reminded me a bit of Ateletico Madrid....

Some said he has us playing like Bayern....

The run in will prove where we are...some very good teams...

    looking forward to the football.

Talk about taking VG to the cross Jesus style, Man City home, chelsea away and Everton away. But Man City and chelsea looking so off, and Everton struggling you never know. Win next week and those 3 big games, and champions league football is looking closer

City and Everton very beatable at the minute. Chelsea would be a tall task but its been done.

A draw at SB isnt at all impossible imo.

If we win it would be bloody brilliant. :D

We will get points against City and Chelsea. They are not on good form at the moment and we are growing in confidence. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we get 4 points out of both fixtures.

It's not mad. As long as Di Maria puts in a shift he's a better option. Although admittedly a combination of Blind, Young and Fellaini have been impossible to play against over the last 2 games.

Reading match reports you get the feeling the media is disappointed that LFC lost today. Instead of praising our performance they are making it all about Gerrard red card and apology..."he is not that kind of player...", "he fronted up.."

I freely expected we were in for a fight today but instead we dominated them on their own park. After a week of their plaudits lauding them they fell for their own press like last year. Stevie was a disgrace and then Skirtel trying to damage De Gea at the end showed how we destroyed them psychologically in front of their howling fans. This may well be the beginning of our return especially with a couple of top buys in the summer. Have to say hats off to LVG and absolutely brilliant Juan Mata.

Bet MotD don't even show Skrtel stamping on De Gea. They won't spend any time analyzing our performance, let alone praise, they will just say some shit like Liverpool had an off day and are usually so amazing, one of the best in the whole wide world.

Louis Van Gaal post-match press conference:

Is there any suggestion that the FA will actually look at that Skrtel challenge? Cos they bloody well should if they want to show anything like consistency.

That aside, fantastic result today. I had a bad feeling before this one (which I nearly always do before a game at Anfield) and I am very, very happy to be proven wrong.

I wonder how much the constant stick from the (superb, as ever) away fans contributed to winding Gerrard up even before he came on.

Farewell, Stevie 'no titles'. You won't be missed (except as a sort of pantomime villlain).

Wouldn't say you destroyed us psychologically, we showed plenty of fight in that second half. Agree, both Stevie's and Skrtels challenges were disgraceful, Stevie I'm not sure what was running through his head but he has form for these types of incidents as his careers shown, Skrtels was more borne out of frustration at how the game panned out I felt. Mata was indeed brilliant as I highlighted in my post earlier, but Carrick has a massive influence on your midfield, nuanced and understated, but keeps the entire machine ticking, if he can keep his form up next year we might have a midfield capable of competing technically at the Euros.

Van Gaal neutralised our pressing game extremely well and implemented one of his own, that Swansea game seems to be a blueprint for managers and honestly Rodgers should've forseen that and tweaked the formation tactically during the week, his naivety shone through there. Would like to see Lucas and Ibe straight back in with Sterling supporting Sturridge, that should help negate the goal-scoring issue.

Holy shit, a scouser that posts sense ;)

Arsenal will finish them off next game IMO. Hope we beat Arsenal to third place now though.

I'll take that as a compliment kind sir.;)

That's how it was intended! I was about to say "welcome to the nut house" but then I saw that you are a newbie, so I'll just say: You'll get here quite soon I would imagine.

Straight from the guardian comments section

"The glory hunting twats are out in force tonight, not had much to shout about for a year or two so they are getting their fill tonight. The United fans having digs at Gerrard are only doing so because they know he's ten times the player/professional of all your mecenarys like Rooney put together. I just wish if he was going to go out in a blaze of red mist, that he'd head butted Rooney, knee capped Mata, and made Van Gals smug face even flatter than it is (If at all possible). Before all the moral kings and queens of Surrey and Manchester get on their high horse saying I'm condoning violence I'm of course being fascetious.
Thought our poor performance in the first half flattered United, much like Tottenham did. We made them look good, which takes some sort of shit performance. I always had a sneaky feeling we would lose today, feel some Liverpool fans have been way too confident on this forum leading up to this fixture, which is not a good omen. Don't think the race for four will be decided here though. Just gives the winner a slight mental edge, but no where near definitive not with eight games left and a lot of tricky fixtures for both sides. All the people getting erections and moist over United 'clicking' are deluded, I don't think they are up to much still, Tottenham and Liverpool were shit and lost their heads, more than United playing fantastic football, I'd still take Liverpools squad and manager over theirs any day as a collective (not individually before all the United fans start having seizures about how great Di Maria and Rooney are). Time will tell on this, but Van Gal as a manager fits United perfectly, he's dislikable, got a massive ego, a red face, apart from that I feel he offers United nothing, again time will tell..."

I will also take that as a compliment! :D
