We played 2 rightbacks in the CL final in 2008. Hargreaves ahead of Brown in not dissimilar from Williams ahead of Shaw.

I think it's a man marking job on TAA, Shaw is brainless, but if he's gonna put the work in, having only one thing to do is a good thing.

I bet Shaw is playing LCB and we're going 3-4-3 again

Yeah it's the same shape as the last time we played them.

Expect Williams and Wan Bissaka pressing high up the pitch to nulify TAA & Robertson.

    Ole masterclass incoming
Let’s hope. Batshit crazy lineup. Looks like he pulled it out of a hat. Lineup game is going “do you really want to choose 7 defenders?”, tea lady is going “I’m only doing this for Sir Alex. Rugby is really my game, you know!”

    Lineup is fine.

The bench though.. Ole still has glorious hope on Lingard.

    I'm guessing it's a 5-3-2 (or as some would call it a 3-5-2)

    -----------------------------De Gea---------------------------
    ----------AWB-----------Maguire--------Lindeloff--------
    Williams----------------------------------------------------Shaw
    -----------------------Fred-----------Matic-----------------------
    -----------------------------Perierra---------------------------
    --------------James-----------------Martial--------------------

The good thing about this is that we will get to see Williams on the right (where he probably belongs). Bad thing is I can only see us defending for most of the match and seeing very little of the ball...

It’s virtually the expected lineup? How did you envision us setting up?

Can someone please explain to me the logic of having three defenders on the bench, two CBs. Surely you would have one CB and stick Gomes or Chong there just incase. I don't know what more Gomes needs to do to get minutes. His run out against Norwich was really good, showed more than Lingard has done in one year. Not hopeful for today at all, hoping for a draw at the most or concede as few as possible.

Terrible line up and no one on the bench... will be an interesting 90 minutes against the best team in the world right now. It could get messy.

To be fair to Ole, given how paper thin his squad is, starting 11 regardless of formation is kind of forced upon him

Mata and Greenwood can certainly work something in the later stages of the game if Tony and James keep their back 2 busy and tire them down. Mason only needs one chance and Mata is probably the most clinical finisner in our squad behind Mason. Also no Fabinho is a bonus as Martial should have more space to pick the ball up from deep and turn.

    Think positive my friend.

Problem is the game is likely to be gone when they come on. I thought we would have a chance with Rashford but without him and Pogba our team has very little. We need a performance from Martial today.

This thread is full of people who hoped Ole would throw us to the wolves. Liverpool would murder us if we attacked with our back up midfielders and no Rashford to boot. Win or lose this was the best strategy for this game.

We will get dispatched in the first half like the City game. We can only hope they have mercy in the second half, but i doubt it.

I think the options are so limited that a different system or player selection i.e. Lingard for Pereira or Mata for James wouldn't even make a difference. Not much to criticise when you know it's mediocre all over.

I'm still amazed how the main core of your squad (Alisson, VVD, Gomez, Robertson, TAA, Henderson, Salah, Mane, Firmino) manage to stay fit and injury free to play the majority of games, considering your squad depth isn't fantastic (maybe Origi aside).
It’s the training. We will get there too, but for that, the intensity has to go up. Which we did. Next year the fitness should be different.
