Feck away off with the happy with a point brigade, how can someone look at this Liverpool side in 2017 and be so skitterish is beyond me.

The problem is that they've had worse teams than ours for about 16/17 of the last 20 years!
It doesn't translate into guaranteed wins in this fixture though!

I had a go at this on the BBC website, gave up after a bit but I think I was along the same lines as most on this thread, only Coutinho and Mane would be in the XI, possibly Salah. Tried to be objective but hard to make a case for too many of their players. Their forwards/attacking midfielders are the best part of their squad obviously, the rest aren't up to much really.

Just popped up on my Facebook feed:

    Was a great moment :D

Evra was pure personality. Look at the humorless Dippers objecting to his perfectly understandable celebrations. Was it this or a different time when someone threw a realistic-looking forearm onto the pitch and Evra bit it?

Looks like we're wearing the ugly grey third kit for the Liverpool game. Hope it isn't unlucky.

Forearm was after the last match of the next season I think.

Some fans getting a bit too cocky in here with the "same 4-0 as always" kind of response. Or they are trolling.

Loved this. I remember Twitter erupting as it happened, ABUs were outraged at how disrespectful it was and seemed to have more to say about Evra celebrating a win infront of his own fans than they did about Evra being racially abused by another player. So salty.

I'm exactly the exactly the same. No part of me looks forward to it.

The City derby I enjoy. Arsenal and Chelsea I never dread.

But the two Liverpool fixtures are awful.

I'd take two nil nils at the start of each season not to play them. When I was a lad, I couldn't get enough of playing them, I'd have loved us to take them on every week, but the older I get, the worse it gets

Despise this game. I can vaguely handle losing to City, Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs or anyone els but losing to this lot pisses me off for days.

    Sort yourselves out

Yeah its shit when we lose to these, but imagine skipping it if we win.

    Imagine missing this:

"Shit" Shit comes nowhere near it mate, there is nothing worse than losing there. The fact that it's also the best place in the world to win is an irrelevance until it's done and dusted.
Maybe its different for those of us of a certain age, because beating those was all we had for a long time; but imagining us winning isn't enough for me to look forward to this game.

People, are you seriously suggesting we will park the bus against a team that can't defend?

Literally we should be going into this game with the confidence to win. Yes it's at Anfield and yes they always raise their games even with their worst sides but literally when you look at the depth of our squad compared to them, we should have no excuses but to get three points on Saturday especially now with their best player gone in Mane

Usually I'd absolutely fear going into this game (like last season where I thought we were going to get hammered :nervous:) but we are going into this game with a defense solid and composed, a midfield who should dominate Liverpool's even without two of our most influential players missing and our attack against their crap defence. Don't tell me in the space of two weeks the likes of Klavan and Matip have become better defenders because simply they have not.

Liverpool aren't playing Arsenal on Saturday who gave such a spineless performance in which Liverpool walked through them. We have a side who are hard to beat and have been under Mourinho.

The first 20 minutes they will do their usually throw everything at you and hope you fold but I think we'll show the right character and control the game after that.

Going to go for 2-0 United. No excuses for us with them missing their best player this weekend

If we go there to defend then it will be a huge mistake, as current Liverpool team suffer defending well and their defense is their worst line, so obviously we should go for it from the very beginning, Jose should just tell the players go at them with confidence IMO.

Very excited for the game. Feeling pretty confident , can't see how Liverpool wins this but then again they are no mugs and klopp would hope for a response . Jose gives me confidence and that is one big reason I think we will win.

We have done very well v Liverpool in recent years in terms of our results, especially at Anfield: two wins & a draw in our last three games there in the League.

I'll stick my neck out: 4-1 United.

The only worry for me is that we have lost the momentum we had before international break. We might find it hard to regain that straight away.

They throw up big chances for forwards every game. If we're clinical we should take this.

Hate this game. Forget the form or the starting 11s they mean nothing.
I think we are favorites but really it means nothing aswell.
Hopefully we win!!! I expect a very tough game surprised some others don't.

For all liverpools deficiencies I am convinced they will score. Our forward players will have to be on their game if we are to take something from this match.

How Jose sets the team up will also indicate how confident he is would the team he has on hand now. He just didnt trust his 2016 team to beat the Scousers last year and thus the parking.

The first 30mins tomorrow will not be an indicator of Jose's level of trust though -- as Klopp's Plan A/B/C will be to attack full-on from the start.
We will defend till the Kloppers are knackered then, hopefully, we counter-attack and increase the pressure towards the end of the match like we have so far.

I disagree, he has two midfielders he rates highly out to injury. How he sets up will be to compensate for those two.

Sky really building up this game, normally this means a boring game.

It's often the biggest fixture viewed worldwide in any season. In 2015 I think the viewership was double that of el classico, and even more than the Champions League final in that year.

They said this Saturdays fixture has an estimated viewership of 700m IIRC.

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but Phil Thompson says Liverpool will win with a clean sheet

Hopefully Jose unleashes Martial-Lukaku-Rashford at last against this lot, their defence can absolutely be got at and with their pace and power we can eviscerate them on the counter. Wishful thinking I know but I really hope we don't show them too much respect tomorrow.

We are going to get twatted. I don't think I've ever felt such trepidation as this before prior to a United game, home or away, even when United were winning leagues and we were struggling to stay in the top half of the table.

Mane out, our most influential player (as opposed to best, though he could be that too), is a massive psychological blow to the team, on top of average recent form, poor shooting boots, Lallana & Clyne out as well and low on confidence. I can see that if something goes wrong early doors then it will be massively tough for us to get back into the game.

The team Klopp selects will be interesting (as will the bench) but I don't expect Mourinho to be as defensive as usual, he must realise we are there for the taking and it may be foolish to give us the impetus by sitting back. I foresee United controlling midfield and creating chances with us relying mostly on Salah or Coutinho to conjure up something (probably on a break). We'll lose by two goals.

I honestly don't think it will be that clear cut.

Coutinho, Firminho, Salah can still cause big problems going forward and Salah will operate against the weakest spot in our team. Our LB will either be a 30+ Young or slower Blind/Damien.

There's weaknesses in our side to exploit and for all this noise about Mane being out, your midfield is still well placed to put up a battle.

Well I hope you are right and we put up some sort of showing, at least not be embarrassed as per City.

Personally I want to see Robertson in at LB (we all know Moreno is the player most likely to give away penalties or abdicate the LB's defensive duties) and probably Gomez at RB (more defence minded and taller than AA) but in midfield we have very limited options and it will be Henderson, Wijnaldum and Can (which doesn't fill me with enthusiasm but other than dropping one of them to enable us to play 3+1 across the front there are very limited options) and I don't see any United midfield, even one shorn of Pogba and Fellaini, being dominated.

Don't think there's any way this becomes an easy game for us.
