If we start Mkhitaryan, we'd be making the same mistake we did when we started him against City. This will be a very high intensity game. Putting him straight in after an injury lay off will be a brave move.

But the mistake in that one was playing when he was still clearly injured. Here he'll be fully recovered and had an extra 15 days to get back to full fitness as he isn't playing for Armenia this international break

It's time for the famous "boom bust cycle" to begin. Losing to United will begin that nicely.

4-2 United. Pogba to score all 6 goals.

Remember the Europa League game last season? I'm expecting something like that. It wouldn't be a surprise, even in our best years we generally struggled to put in a good performance at Anfield.

It's true we generally struggle at a field, but a lot of this squad are different players to when we struggled.

We will be up for it. It's a game of football, a very heated one at that. Anything can happen and I'd hate to go into a game against Liverpool already conceding that we're going to lose.

    We'll thump them.

The negativity on here is incredible.
How long have some of you been following (a) United and (b) Football.
    Wise up lads.

Typical game where Utd will win 1-0 with a Smalling or Ibra goal from a set piece. We'll be down to 10 men at some point.

But we have created a good buffer that we can take this loss.

3-0 Liverpool. They should roll us over easily like City did. If they press well in the right areas and pass the ball well enough, we'll have no answer.

Where has this narrative come from that city turned us over easily. Speak to most city fans and they'll admit to feeling like we were going to turn them over in that second half.

Thought they were underwhelming against Swansea. They have been class every other game this season though so you have to think that was a blip. Not going to be an easy ride that's for sure.

They outclassed us in the first half and though we started sharp in the second half, they were the more dangerous team and should have put the game to bed.

Jose has something up his wizards sleeve .

    This worries me.

They outclassed us in the first half and though we started sharp in the second half, they were the more dangerous team and should have put the game to bed.

They were better in the first half, but didn't really create the chances to "roll us over." They had a lot of the ball in front of our back line, but it wasn't exactly like De Gea was being peppered with shots.

Their first goal came from a long ball and some poor defending, and their second came from a lucky rebound off the post. I know we were slightly fortunate with our goal, but immediately following that we had them on the back foot and finished the half well, and then came out flying in the second.

The second half was a more even affair, but we could have been awarded a penalty after Bravo came flying out, and given that we dominated the first twenty minutes or so of the half, an equaliser would have changed the pattern of the game.

The game was very close, and I don't think there'd have been many sensible City fans that'd would have said a 2-2 draw was an unfair result, had we managed to find the equaliser. City may have edged a close game, but they certainly didn't roll us over or outclass us.

Liverpool have started the season well, but this fear surrounding them is just ludicrous. As far as I'm concerned, their most impressive result this season has been the draw at Spurs. Chelsea have misfired, Leicester have shipped 4 against 3 sides already, Hull are always going to be prone to a tonking, they scraped through against Swansea, and Arsenal were fielding a makeshift back-line.

They're a better side than the one Rodgers had in 2013/14, and I think Klopp's a better manager, but the style and the vulnerabilities are very similar. It's still very shit or bust, and I think if United can grab an early goal and weather an inevitable early storm, we stand a good chance of taking the points.

Liverpool were hanging on against Arsenal despite being 3 goals up, had no answer to Burnley's early goals, couldn't hold on against Spurs, and found themselves holding against Chelsea despite being 2 goals up. I think that Liverpool are very much there to be got at, and I find the number of United fans seemingly accepting defeat already quite staggering.

It's a derby, form goes out of the window, who knows what'll happen. I don't think we've dealt well with high pressure teams so far but equally Mou should know what to do, just depends on how brave and clever the players are at actually executing it. There's going to be a lot of running so we'll need a mobile team for it.

This is now a huge game. Liverpool have been very impressive this season but are very beatable.

You would expect a Mourinho team to be able to beat them by being very compact and dangerous on the break. I don't know if he has the personnel at United though.

I would definitely play Carrick in this game. They will play a very high tempo and United will need a midfield that is solid defensively and comfortable on the ball.

Goes without saying, but the players have to be up for it. The defenders have to be much more concentrated, while the attackers have to be much more clinical in fron of goal.

I'm worried about their pressing, especially when Smalling has the ball. Hoping to see Shaw play as well. Think Blind's a bit too slow for these type of games.

To be fair this could be similar to the game a couple of years ago where Liverpool were in such form they were over-confident thinking they are the best team in Europe and come unstuck. Unfortunately I think Klopp is very switched on and they are rightly favourites. Still, wouldn't be surprised to see us do them. 100% think we will turn up...if we don't then things need to be seriously looked at even at this early stage.

Liverpool are due a loss. There is no way they are just going to steamroll every big game this season. I know we are also due a loss at Anfield but I have a good feeling we can click it together here. International break is better for us right now.

Still, that's just a decent feeling I have. With the way they are playing we would do very well to get the win. Jose may play for a draw with more hope of 3 points at Chelsea.

feck off! There is no question. We are better than those feckers. Rocket up arses time.

Just dont sit back jose. If we go after them like we did in the second half against city, then we will destroy their leaky defence. If we try to park the bus, then it will be a long day.

Out of interest, will Jose go with a 3 man midfield? I'd fancy us if you just have herrara and Pogba in there.

Tbh worried about our set pieces, we're going to struggle with your power in the air.

    Fellaini
    Herrera Pogba
    Rash Zlatan Martial

That is what I hope to see

They can't defend and we're still shaky in attack. Our defence is rock solid and they're scoring for fun. Pretty sure whatever happens won't be a precursor for the rest of the season.

Please don't leave Herrera on his own with Pogba. This is Fellainis game. We need 3 in midfield against them.

I also have a feeling Bailly is going to do something daft.

Ferguson often went to Anfield set out to play for the draw. Probably the only place he'd do that outside of nou camp.

If Mourinho thinks he can snatch a dull draw, he should take it. I think he will. If you can see out the first half with some old school anti football, there is good reason to think you can simply frustrate us out of getting the goal. Then see if you can grab one from a set piece. Fellaini to play it is. Probably alongside pogba ahead of a holding midfielder.

Ferguson often went to Anfield set out to play for the draw.

It rarely has been a draw at Anfield though or overall between the two clubs in PL era. Ferguson's league record at Anfield in PL was 10-4-7 in United's favour.

Myth. Mourinho throughout has career has handled these big games with far more versatility than your post would suggest.
And Klopp has made his name in these kind of games (even this season) - far more than your posts would suggest.

I fully expect this. Mou wants a tight game with one goal to his side.

Be that as it may, it won't be as if mourinho is breaking united tradition by parking the bus at Anfield.

There's nothing worse than losing to Liverpool. Anything that stops that happening is a result for me.

A win here and it will be all roses again. It would lift us right back into the mix. We have a chance too. We've created a lot of chances past couple of league games, and we will create against Liverpool. Just need to take our chances and be more clinical.

Lose this and we will be 6 points off Liverpool with Chelsea next. Not a good time for two crucial games like these 2, but it's a huge test for the mentality of our squad and manager, it will give us a tremendous lift and push for the title hunt if we can win, the players must play for their lives.

Blind at the back in order to have an extra player who's good on the ball in deeper positions, Carrick in front of the back four for the same reason plus he's the most tactically astute player in the squad when it comes to protecting the square in front of the center halves and Herrera instead of Rooney/Mata in the whole in order to press and hit their main weakness which is playing the ball out of their defense and don't allow them to find rhythm through waves of attacks... And cross our fingers.

I don't think it will be as bad as some people think. Hoping we can get out of there with a 1-1 draw. We have to take the game to them, if we sit back they'll steamroll us.

Ferguson often went to Anfield set out to play for the draw. Probably the only place he'd do that outside of nou camp.
He did that at lots and lots of places in the latter years of his career. See the title decider at City in 2012, for the most obvious example.

I'd even say he sometimes fielded exceedingly attacking line-ups at Liverpool, like in 2011 when we lined up in a 4-4-2, with Giggs, Scholes and Berbatov all playing... it was a recipe for disaster.

As long as Vidic doesn't give away another ruddy penalty, we'll be fine.

I think that Liverpool are very much there to be got at, and I find the number of United fans seemingly accepting defeat already quite staggering.
Hey, lots of people told me stuff like that. All I can say is that I desperately want all those people, you included, to be right and to come back here after the game and tell me "I told you so!!". I really, really hope that happens.

    A must win game.

Sadly, i don't see us winning at all. We are the exact opposite from them currently. They will gang up on us all over the pitch with outrunning and outfighting us, winning every 50/50, while we will sit back and never get going. Our only hope is they are shit in front of goal, but in terms of hassling/pressing/running/tempo, we have no chance with this current team and setup. They are very good in big games under Klopp, while we look unstable and a bit clueless under Mourinho in general so far. We still haven't found our team and style, while Liverpool have, just like Spurs. I can see this game being a copy of yesterdays game between City and Spurs in all honesty, that is not a good thing.

I have sneaky, optimistic feeling well get a convincing win against Liverpool and Chelsea.
