Swans are the only team to stand up to the Pool's midfield, others, even Spurs were scared of Mane's speed to do that. However, the Smalling + Baily combo is pacey and physical, and will play 15 yards higher up the pitch. Jose will observe the Swans game and see the pace we need to play at. This means an open game with goals for both sides.
Will Jose also note that going at pace and toe-to-toe with Liverpool meant Sawnsea were spent on 60 and pretty much allowed Liverpool to dominate them for the final third of the game - leading to a tired tackle that led to their eventual defeat.

As for the rest of your post, I know your Messiah complex would make Donald Trump blush, but you really need to reel in your condescending attitude or your reputation as a poor poster will spread.
I have reputation? This is all happening so fast...

After today's result, we could really do with beating Liverpool here - as tough as that may be.
They are great going forward but vulnerable defensively. I think this match will tell you a lot about our team.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Bailly--Smalling--Shaw
    Herrera--Blind--Pogba
    Rashford--Ibrahimovic--Martial

subs: Romero, TFM, Carrick, Fellaini, Lingard, Mata, Rooney

We need to go with a proper 3 man midfield. Carrick or Blind for that defensive midfield position and Herrera + Pogba further forward. We should probably keep it tight and try to hit them on the counter.

Because of the silly international week, we won't be able to work on the formation properly, annoyingly. But I think if we go with the 4-2-3-1 they'll pick us off.

Hope to God we don't play this. Think we'd get smashed.

    .
The idea is, utd have (usually) clinical and dangerous offensive players, more so than the Swans, we can do the maximum run around like madmen for 60 minutes, get 2 goals, and sit deep. Swans only got 1.

I would rest zlatan and bring rasford/martial/lingard front 3

I can already see the Caf now....

Don't forget the countless 'perspective' threads.

Jesus the way people are talking about this game you'd think Liverpool had suddenly become a mix of everything good about Barcelona, bayern and real!

If their keeper didn't have an absolute stormer today we would be looking at a 3/4-1 win and you'd all be talking about how we're going to stuff the scousers.

Instead you're all crying like girls that we're going to be the ones getting stuffed and there's nothing we can do about it.

I fully expect a difficult game but there is no way it'll be such a walk over as you are all making out. Their gengenpressing will struggle against mou's counterattack tactics so I feel quite confident we can go their and get a result.

It is an idea - but flies in the face of every match they've played under Jose so far including Leicester. Is it not a risk to try to out-press and out-run Liverpool in such a game at Anfield? Genuinely, I think Klopp will pray for such a tactic as it would play directly into Liverpool's hands.

That would only make sense of Liverpool were a really good, top and primed machine like team. Instead, it's a team still learning with young players that specialises in frantic football, not proper polished, controlled footy. In a one off game I see no reason why utd can't fight fire with fire.

Bit of a dilemma for Mourinho, Liverpool under Klopp have struggled against team that defend deep and have depended on individual moment of brilliance to get results, but on the other hand Liverpool defence is not very good and if put under they could feck up badly.

Ignoring the (un)veiled digs in that post for a moment, I'm 100% certain that Mourinho will not view Liverpool in those terms. Nor would he reduce their attacking approach to being just 'frantic'. It ignores the fact that the manager has used the exact same approach to very successful levels in Germany and it would suggest that it required very little thought in terms of setting the team up. In short, Klopp's a lot cleverer and his team are more refined than your post would suggest they are.

Not confident, but an unexpected win and good performance will go a long way to settling down the team (and the caf).

The current form and stats say there's no way we're winning this - but I am prepared to be surprised. Wouldn't mind a 1-0 smash 'n' grab-John O' Shea-winner-in-the-93rd-minute style win.

To be fair, they struggled against Swansea yesterday who pressed them high up the pitch. They were very unlucky not to get anything out the game in the end.

Mourinho only has one approach to these kind of games, and it's sitting deep, trying to limit their chances of breaking us down and punt it forward and hope to break them down on the counter.

We're still not capable of defending as a unit, whether it is high up the pitch or while sitting deep , and we also have a terrible tendency of absolutely panicking in possession when we're put under pressure in our own half, which Liverpool will surely take advantage of.

I predict that Liverpool will create plenty of chances, but have a feeling a De Gea master class might save us a point. Going for a 1-1, as we should be able to create something on the counter, which I'll take happily at this point.

    1. It's no dig. To be the finished product takes years of smart investment and stability. I would say there have only been 4/5 ''finished product'' teams in the last 10 years or so
    2. Klopp's Dortmund were far more nuanced with their game than 'pool, and could play at different paces, probably because they had a specialist tempo setter where 'Pool play with without one
    3. This 'Pool is not refined or sophisticated to the point trying to engage them in an open game in their own back yard should be considered foolish. The holding player is Henderson ffs, a perfectly decent, adaptable player, but no specialist there. He can be bypassed if targeted correctly, and he has 2 10s ahead of him, making a midfield 3. Standing off them and begging to be played through would be monumentally bad decision making.

Myth. Mourinho throughout has career has handled these big games with far more versatility than your post would suggest.

I didn't realise how hectic your schedule was after the international break. Liverpool (a), Fenerbache (h), Chelsea (a), City (h) and Burnley (h) all in the space of 13 days.

City away with Chelsea during 13/14 is one that comes to mind. Everyone expected Chelsea to get beat but they showed up and took the game to City, deservedly winning 1-0. I can't tell if Mourinho is the same manager nowadays though.

Will Lallana be available for the game?
We don't know yet. He went off with a groin injury yesterday and has been ruled out for England but Klopp hasn't confirmed how long he's out for. Lovren also picked up a groin injury and Clyne has knee one which has ruled both out for their countries.

You may well be right, I'm just basing it off the big games I've actually seen. And I'm absolutely certain that's how we'll approach this game as well, so your myth busting has precious little to do with my conclusion. But well done, either way.

They've conceded only 2 more goals than us and have largely looked much better at the back since the 4-3 Vs Arsenal.
Matip has been a big reason for that. We've looked a lot steadier since he came into the back four. No Moreno has helped as well.

I think you will give them a good game. They are weak at the back and I think they will struggle with the likes of Zlatan. I'm expecting a draw.

Evening game at an increased-capacity Anfield? Our players will kack themselves before they're even on the pitch.

Why do you say that? We're used to playing in front of the baying mobs, even bigger ones than Liverpool will bring.

Because it's exactly the sort of big, noisy, important game we've bottled time after time in the past three seasons. I think it'll play out exactly like the first leg of the Europa League tie did last season.

I'm feeling confident about it. Jose will have two weeks to prep for this and he will have the likes of Carrick, Herrera, Bailly, Zlatan and Mkhitaryan around. That can and should pretty much be the spine of the team we put out on the 17th.

The key thing is to soak up the pressure and go after their suspect defence and midfield. Because, as much as Klopp and Liverpool fans would have us believe, you really can't polish a turd.

3-0 Liverpool. They should roll us over easily like City did. If they press well in the right areas and pass the ball well enough, we'll have no answer.

We can only hope it goes in our favour and our players don't bottle it.

Remember the Europa League game last season? I'm expecting something like that. It wouldn't be a surprise, even in our best years we generally struggled to put in a good performance at Anfield.
