Just watching Smalling on MUTV, he's just Richard Ayoade in disguise isn't he?

At least we're nervous/excited for matches this season. Good to have that back.

Herrera will be at 6. It's exactly the same lineup as the second half against City, except with Young instead of Rooney.

Don't get why people think this is a bad lineup. We were so much better against City in the second half and everyone said post game that that's how we should have set up. :wenger:

Not sure I can take all the doom and gloom on here … we can normally at least kick off before this level of negativity starts.

It's terrible, we need 2 matchday threads, one for positive supporters and one for negatives. The negative thread would obviously be the more active.

Yeah, with Fellaini on the left a bit further forward than Herrera. Carrick in behind. Mata and Herrera had good chem as well.

I remember there was some amazing link up play with Blind, Young and Fellaini. Hopefully we can get a bit of that tonight.

This will be an attempt at the Gerrard slip match, I don't think we have the midfield or the defence for that. We'll kick it long and won't look to play through their midfield. I'm far from confident.

I'm actually optimistic about this one. Young, unlike Miki and Lingard, is dependable. Plus Pogba in a more attacking role combining with Zlatan is going to be something.

Clearly we are targeting Liverpool's weaknesses and managing their strengths. Not conceding early is essential, long balls will help beat their press and ball-players like Mata will be more effective in the second half.

Attacking football can wait. We need to win this one. With this starting eleven, I think we can.
My sentiments exactly. Hope you get promoted real soon.

Come the feck on United. Took a half day from work to watch the game.

    3-1 United.

    ibrahimovic x 2 and Fellaini

Martial, Shaw over Blind at left back, Mkhy (Where is he? I thought he was fit now?) and Lingard are all very quick.

    So basically just Lingard.

Martial is injured and Mkhi presumably still not fit either.

Is Lingard really that much quicker than Young?

EDIT: fair point about shaw but blind has been excellent recently

I love how everybody assuming that this guy can't handle the pressing or that guy can't handle the pace.

Let's just wait and see what happens. I am sure Mourinho is fully aware of Liverpools pressing.

    ---Bailly--Smalling--Blind---
    Tony-Fellaini-Ander-Pogba-Young
    -------Rashford--Zlatan

Think we'll be set up to not concede, counter down the wings and hit a lot of crosses.

I like that we are moaning about our starting lineup. Usually means something well
Not since fergie. I think mou has blown it with young and fellaini. Specially dropping mata who has probably been our top player so far.

One day United will play beautiful and dominating football. One day, I tell you. When? I don't know but one day but maybe that day is not today!

    Martial injured?

Would have preferred Lingard to Young to be honest. Thought we'd seen the back of Ashley.

Then again, after Lingard's performance against City not a surprise. Also better defensively than Mata.

I fecking hate these games. Losing to these cnuts hurts more than anything.

Beat them and we're right back into it. Come on Utd!

At least we're nervous/excited for matches this season. Good to have that back.
We were at the start of last season too. It has nothing with the team, it is simply because the season is still ahead of us and there is hope yet.

Good analysis, hopefully it works to our advantage.
Crosses to Zlatan and not playing their press game will be crucial.

Giggs confirming what appeared to be the case. Fellaini is the perfect player for a manager who wants his instructions carried out to the letter.

One day United will play beautiful and dominating football. One day, I tell you. When? I don't know but one day but maybe that day is not today!
In Fergie's time we struggled at Anfield and nicked wins we didn't deserve. This could be another and I will not be upset one little bit.

Ferguson would often use squad players to do a specific job in big matches. At least it looks like Jose has a genuine plan to deal with Liverpool's style.

Ok what if his plans don't work? Do you think we have a plan b which can be executed to perfection with someone like Young who has hardly played this season and Fellaini who might come up against Coutinho and Firmino, this game is not going to be good for my nerves.

If Rashford is shut out, our creativity is gone from the wings. Pogba and Herrera are now our only hope to create something for Zlatan and hope he finishes his chances and we shut Liverpool out for a clean sheet. Doesn't seem possible at this minute but let's hope United win the game.
