Fellaini will probably play further up and we will try to exploit their lack of aerial prowess by playing long balls to him, Ibra and Pogba. Straight out of Jose's tactical handbook.

The amount of people surprised regarding our potential style of play tonight...people expected another Juanfield or what

    It's amazing, really.

To quote myself from two weeks back, on page four of this thread:

Mourinho only has one approach to these kind of games, and it's sitting deep, trying to limit their chances of breaking us down and punt it forward and hope to break them down on the counter.

    It's textbook from him.

Let's hope he succeeds. If he doesn't, it won't be long before the knives are out.

    UPDATE ON MARTIAL AND SCHNEIDERLIN
Anthony Martial’s exclusion from United’s squad also raised a few eyebrows but we can confirm that the forward and his fellow Frenchman Morgan Schneiderlin picked up injuries in training on Saturday.

We're going to stodge up the middle with 3 CB's, 3 CM's, and hope Young and Tony V can put a shift in. Zlatan and Rashers up top to hold the ball up and cause problems together.

Not pretty but could be effective.

So, Morgan and Martial picked up injuries at training Saturday? Just read it... Back luck, especially if Schneiderlin had a chance at starting...

Exactly. He was defending him for years, even taht silent domination crap. At the beginning of the season it was the same. Now he knew it all for years  what a clown Neville is at times

still the better of the Nevs though. When I see P Nev come on I really can't stand it.

Said Fellaini will start and i think its right call. Lingard must not be fit so Young doing his job

Wasn't expecting MS to start but Martial was a pick for sure.

I remember pumping it long working down the park against short players, but it's not Liverpool's defenders are 3foot 2. They're pros who know how to jump.

I really hope our gameplan isn't relying on set pieces, we've spent way too much money for that sh!T

Oh god. Everything that was dreaded is coming true. Lingard, Fellaini, Young all squad players starting. Liverpool will have a field day today. So disappointing even after spending so much money, we get squad players in for such an important game.

EDIT: Phew, Lingard on the bench.

I'm actually optimistic about this one. Young, unlike Miki and Lingard, is dependable. Plus Pogba in a more attacking role combining with Zlatan is going to be something.

Clearly we are targeting Liverpool's weaknesses and managing their strengths. Not conceding early is essential, long balls will help beat their press and ball-players like Mata will be more effective in the second half.

Attacking football can wait. We need to win this one. With this starting eleven, I think we can.

Yeah. We had that period when we found a magic line up and battered Spurs and City with them. It also had Fellaini and Herrera playing in midfield and playing amazing.

Then Everton battered us and it all went wrong.
Yeah, with Fellaini on the left a bit further forward than Herrera. Carrick in behind. Mata and Herrera had good chem as well.

I think its a bad decision that Fellaini starts ahead of Carrick

Hmmm, I think Carrick would get destroyed. I'd rather we had better than Fellaini but he'll definitely be of more use than Carrick on a night like this.

Mate they usually struggle in the air and in set pieces. Watch their previous games for evidence.

I can see it now. We'll be sitting back making mistakes and hoping they don't hit the target. A clear loss if I ever saw one, this.

    Those matchups make no sense!!!

Blind at LB vs. Mane - That's not good. Mane will have a field day on the side with Daley. Too much speed.
Fellaini deepest of CM - Versus THAT dynamic pressing midfield? what?! We need energy to match energy.

They'll be playing the high pressing game as everyone seems to do nowadays.
Can't see us doing well unless we do the same. have to put 110% in or we'll have trouble not only holding them but getting attacks together. Hope he learnt from the City game. Don't like Fellaini in that team.

let's hope we can do a Leicester job on them then! And that we have anywhere near the ball to do so!

Ferguson would often use squad players to do a specific job in big matches. At least it looks like Jose has a genuine plan to deal with Liverpool's style.

Don't think we'll see any first station passes tonight. I expect Fellaini and Pogba to push high up and for our players to try and find them, in order to allow us to beat the press. Think they'll really struggle with that.

Fellaini will be our man of the match. Heard it here first ;)
