What will the Leicester line up be and what formation do they usually play?

    DDG
    RAFA
    EVANS
    ROJO
    SHAW
    BLIND
    DI MARIA
    HERRERA
    MATA
    ROONEY
    EL TIGRE

would be my line up. RvP needs to get out of this malaise he is in.
They usually play a bit of a 4-4-2 from what I've seen so far but it's not rigid. Ulloa and Nugent up top but one always drops deep or I've seen Nugent pull out to the right. Schmeichel in goal, De Laet, Moore, Morgan, Konchesky, Mahrez, King, Hammond, Schlupp, Nugent, Ulloa.

Haven't seen Knockaert in the past two games. Not sure if he's injured or just unfavoured.

Same as QPR except Smalling for Blackett and Falcao for Van Persie. Rojo deserves to keep his place at LB ahead of Shaw.

It will be a tough game, no question about it. Leicester have really impressed me this season. Unlike Burnley they have actual quality and play decent football. Probably should have beaten Arsenal in my opinion and beat Stoke yesterday.
I hope today was the start of a winning run and hopefully we can win this one.

    Rafael-Evans-Rojo-Shaw
    -----------Blind----------
    ---Herrera---Di Maria---

we do normally favour a 442 but I wouldn't be surprised to see us keep with what we finished which was a 433 with Schlupp and Nugent wide of Ulloa bringing Drinkwater and Cambiasso into CM with either Hammond or King, Schmeichel had a knee injury but should be fit, if we go 442 we really need to bring Vardy in for Nugent.

Also re Knockaert, he started the season appallingly but he was an unused sub vs Stoke

I don't care what anybody says, that's a title challenging team if it clicks against the better opposition sooner rather than later. It hardly has any weaknesses.

Shaw instead of Blackett and Falcao instead of van Persie, the rest should be the same as today, another good performance and comfortable win :)

Leicester have started the season very well, they were playing to the same level as Chelsea in that match until Chelsea managed a fairly lucky first goal. We'd need to do the same, preferably as early as possible. Ulloa is a threat, a lot better than I'd have expected, hopefully we have Smalling back to deal with him, not convinced on Evans or Blackett physically. I'd play a similar side though, the diamond with Falcao in place of RvP. I've gone for a 2-0, with us hopefully scoring early and then controlling most of the game.

Oh ok thanks and welcome to the forum. You lot have impressed me so far and I think it'll be a tough game but obviously hope we beat you! Genuinely hope Leicester do well this season, mainly due to the ex United players.

This. Though wouldn't you rather have Jones over Evans? Based on their recent performances in which Jones has been our best center half and Evans, perhaps our worst. Furthermore, Jones is younger and less injury prone(albeit still very prone). He had also shown to be quite a decent leader at the back up until his injury.

Jones is out for a 3-4 weeks, so no chance for next week, although for me he's our best CB by a mile.

 I forgot this was the match thread for next week and not some post your fancy line up thread. Anyone know what's happening with Smalling? If he's fit for next week then I think there is a good debate to be had as to who is the best option to partner Rojo , assuming we're sticking with a back 4.

As much as some are underestimating Leicester City (I may underestimate them myself here), others are overrating them just as much.

They on average bag 1.25 goals a game. They have let in 5 goals to our 3 so far, and only scored 4 to our 6. We have 2 clean sheets where as they only have 1. For Leicester, they have started there campaign quite well and are certainly to be respected.

However, our defense has and is shaping up quite well especially with the defensive work of Blind and the composing he brings by taking on the responsibility of dispersing the ball from the back, which relieves some of the pressure off the shaky defense passing that has recently been our demise. Also, in as much as our defense may leak a goal or two, I would like to believe the World class quality of our attack will immensely hurt their defense. Similar to our 20th Title were we just out scored our opponents.

3-2 is likely, but I would like to see a 5-2 or 5-1 to ManUtd with the already well posted first XI of:

    -----------DDG----------
    Rafael-Evans-Rojo-Shaw
    -----------Blind----------
    ---Herrera---Di Maria---
    ----------Mata-----------
    -----Falcao---Rooney----

With Rooney taking Mata's place around the 70th minute and RVP coming on for Mata.

Depending on the scoreline, LVG would probably want to give our Vice-captain some minutes under his belt so Fletcher coming on for Herrera at the 75th minute or so.

Januzaj coming on again for Di Maria at the 80th minute.

 I forgot this was the match thread for next week and not some post your fancy line up thread. Anyone know what's happening with Smalling?

Started training with reserves this weekend I think, so still probably a couple of weeks off, would like to see the Jones, Rojo pairing so he'd be third choice for me.

My team just echoes everyone else's, same as today but,

    Rojo to CB
    Shaw to LB
    Falcao for RVP

Blackett on bench to use if shaw can only do 75-80 mins
Bring on RVP for mata if things aren't going our way and we need a goal drop Rooney to 10 like today.

    1-3 ( Falcao, blind, Rooney )

    EL TIGRE

would be my line up. RvP needs to get out of this malaise he is in.

As somebody else said, we're more than likely to start in a 4-4-1-1 but we've been adapting the formation with a few substitutions throughout the game for the opposition. Likely starting is:

    Schmeichel

De Laet - Moore - Morgan - Konchesky

    Mahrez - Drinkwater - Cambiasso - Schlupp

    Nugent

    Ulloa
And yes, King and Hammond were the midfield pairing for the start of the season as our first choice two (Drinkwater and James, both Man Utd youth players, were injured), but Drinkwater's been weaned back into it, and I think is likely to start with Cambiasso for this match. Their inclusion against Stoke at half time was what won it for us. Matty James has only just been back training fully after the injury, so I think he'll be in there as a sub but won't start.

Nugent I'm unsure about. Never really looked like scoring and Jamie Vardy is a much better striker than he is, but he certainly provides something in front of our midfield and behind Ulloa that Vardy doesn't, so Vardy's likely to either come on for Ulloa later on in the match or take Schlupp's position on the wing as a sub, which isn't where he looks most comfortable but he's still had some great runs in the 30 or so minutes he's played.

This may be our best 11, all players that I've seen play for us considered (excluding Powell, Lawrence and Simpson), and we ended up similar to this against Stoke but I can't see us starting the match like it:

    Schmeichel

De Laet - Moore - Morgan - Konchesky

    James - Cambiasso

    Mahrez - Drinkwater - Vardy

    Ulloa
Not sure what the subs could be at all.

Same formation as today, with Shaw and Falcao in for Blackett and RVP...

    ----------DDG---------

    Rafael--Evans--Rojo--Shaw

    ----------Blind--------

    ----Herrera----Di Maria

    ----------Mata----------

    -----Rooney--Falcao

    4-2 united

They have also played Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Stoke compared to our Swansea, Sunderland Burnley and QPR.

No one is overrating them, they are simply giving them the credit they deserve.

This game will be fair bit tougher but then the team will have 1 week to gel more together.

Falcao in for RVP, Shaw for Blackett and roll with the same.

Why do we play again on Sunday? Hoped we would play on Saturday at 12:45. Just love it when we play so early.

This game will be brilliant. Comfortable enough opposition for this new look United team to flourish, but a good enough team to test us and provide a challenge. If we comfortably beat Leicester away after only 1 game with all these new players, I'd be very happy!

On another note, I think the formation will be the same.

    ---------De Gea----------
    Rafa--Evans--Blackett*--Shaw
    ----------Blind------------
    -----
    Herrera---Di Maria----
    ----------
    Mata-----------
    -----
    Falcao--Rooney------

*Will probably be Rojo instead, but I think Blackett would be a much better option next to Evans. It's all about organisation at the back and I've heard Rojo isn't that great positionally, and he won't be getting any help from Evans as Rojo can't speak a word of English! For now, I'd like to see Blackett start.

I think Falcao will start over Van Persie simply cause Van Persie hasn't been at his best lately, and we need to see what Falcao can offer. When on form, they're both as dangerous as each other imo... will be a headache for LvG if we (hopefully) get to a point like that!! Rooney's been good lately so won't get dropped.

Also, I'd like to add at how impressed I was with Blind at that role just in front of the defence. I know it was only QPR, but his awareness and defensive capability allowed Herrera and Di Maria to run off and do what they want. His role really is 'under the radar' and would only really be noticed should he be absent - never got why Cleverley once claimed this about his role

A big thing will be getting Shaw into form and regularly playing, as well as keeping our centre backs fit and focused. We need Smalling and particularly Jones (who's been great so far this season) back to either improve the defence or bring competition back there. Also, Rafael is a brilliant player in my eyes and it's great to have him back.

Once that's sorted, we've easily got one of the best teams in the league (on paper, let's hope we gel pretty soon like you said!)

Ohh guys, stayed up too late last night and decided to miss two lectures today. Worth it as i have to enjoy this feeling - being back and being United :D

Hope it is 4 at the back!

Let the CBs decide themselves until Jones comes back. He stands out so far this season in defense. Shaw can come in if he is fully fit as i do not care whether Rojo or Blackett starts. One is supposed to be more experience and better player, the other has advantage in terms of communication and understanding with the rest of defense. Either way is ok for me :).

About the front 3. If LvG wants us to have Mata in middle and Rooney, Robin out wide when we are not in possession then it does not work. Remember the goals and three of them come from left side. Just when Herrera made run to the right side and with Rafael, they created some good plays and moments. Imo, apart from obvious reason that we have Maria on the left, it is needed to stress the difference Rooney and Robin have in the build up on each side. We know Robin's hold up play is excellent and one vs one with defenders near/in the box is his strength, therefore i hope we can twist a bit so we can have the best of him. Or maybe "when we click" it is gonna be just effective that way?

If we keep the same 3 in the middle and have Shaw as left back, the left side is deadly. Just love the current 3 midfielders. Maria is nothing else to say, but really love Blind and Herrera. How long it has been since we have a proper holding midfielder who is calm, can run with the ball and is intelligent and have some one who possesses a whole package of skills and...do score :x ?

Long way to go but yeah it all looks bright !

The only player who maybe should be changed from QPR game is RvP, but then Again he probably just need a run of games to find his form, can we wait for that is the question.
Don't think it is fair to put Blackett on the bench making space for Shaw. He is an easy target because of the fact he is a youngster, but it would be the wrong statement to bench him when he did good against QPR.

Simple enough line up this time.

    1108035_Manchester_United.jpg

So I think 1 person so far has had RvP in their starting XI.

Hell, I agree. I think he should be dropped. But realistically he is one of our untouchables. I would expect Mata to be dropped if Falcao starts. Rooney as the head of the diamond.

looking forward to the match. hoping to see the 'diamond' again.

and the former Utd youth contingent is exciting too -especially Drinkwater & James

Nice one cheers lad....there sure is a lot of United influence at your club atm.

    Faith = restored.
Another 4-0 for me, think these guys are more competent than QPR, but now we have some confidence and in a second match with the new formation the players should be more used to their roles so be even better. That's my theory anyway.

    ----------------Blind-----------------
    ---------Herrera----Di Maria--------

    5-0 to us.

I would play the same team again. If Shaw and Falcao arent fit to play the 90 mins, why play them from the beginning. RvP offered good movement in the box and was dangerous.

Thanks for the opposition view, sometimes i wish we had fans from all of the clubs offering insight into there own teams.
There is a lot of united influence on your current team.
    • Drinkwater- i watched him in reserves at united and also some games under 18s , frankly rated him higher than cleverly. Was good tidy player, never really had the x factor nor like cleverly did it on a loan, hence was let go. It will be good to see him again, also scored good goal against liverpool reserves .
    • Matty james - Before he got injured, there were calls for him and magnus eikrem to be promoted to united team. He is a good passer of the ball and is overall a great midfielder. Really wanted him to make it here, was rated highly at a point too.
    • De laet- Never understood why we bought him, i guess e had some talent, scored a good goal in reserves.
    • Schlupp - Another bizzare transfer we almost made, It was really strange with him. How do you rate him?
    • Barmby - One of the very highly rated under 18's at united. But he could not really cut it at Reserve level, there was just too much competition. How is he doing? has he played yet?
    • Lawrence - Will be a good lower-midtable premier league player. I like him. Just has a poor injury record.
Powell wont play, but he is very lazy, could be a good footballer, but his attitude does not fill you with confidence.

I hope you can tell me more about how they have done at your club. Also what do you expect of the game? Do you think you can beat us? or do you expect the manager to be playing for a draw.

This won't be as easy as some are predicting folks. They've had some decent performances of late and will be encouraged by the results against the likes of Arsenal. I think we are looking at a 2-1/3-1 in our favour but it's crucial we establish some momentum now and kick on.

We can't afford too many more slip ups this early on if we are going to get back in the running.
