Rashford at CF has worked maybe 3 times out of 40.

Even though I don't like Rashford at CF in general based on his previous games there, I think it's only right to go into this with the expectation that what is expected of him will be different than what ETH expected of him, even in the same position, and so whether he does well or not won't be based on how well he hasn't done, but rather how clear Amorim has defined Rashford's role in his new system.

If what's being said about the shape in warm up is true, then it looks like it is in fact:

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Evans
    Amad Eriksen Casemiro Dalot
    Garnacho Bruno
    Rashford
A little surprised Amorim opted for Amad at wing back instead of Garnacho, but then I suppose keeping arguably our biggest goal threat in Garnacho closer to goal does make sense. Intrigued to see how Amad does in the wing back role. Way too much pessimism on here about the lineup. I'm excited to see how we play.

Rashford and Garnacho can’t track back for shite so it makes sense with them taking the forward roles.

This is all rather exciting! I do wish the new manager and his coaching staff the very best.

He will need time, I just want us all to remember that ok, regardless of how things go over the next few games. He is inheriting a limited squad, so let's just see what he can do and send him our support!

The three at the back is interesting, Dalot and Amad as wing backs. And it's good to see Amad, Garnacho, Bruno and Rashford all playing.

Will not be an easy game, Ipswich are slowly improving, and McKenna is a v v astute coach.

Amad wt wing back seems a weird fit, but lets see how he plays the role because if he's massively attacking it isn't too dissimilar to a back 4
As a (in possession) player-type he seems like a sensical fit, but not sure about his stamina and defensive capabilities in general, though the latter hasn't been horrible either.
And if the formation as a whole considers and facilitates more of the cooperation, players' personal defensive skills should matter a bit less than in more standard wingback and fullback (or any) positions.

If it's PES you could sort of use him as a Bernardo in 2022 type, but again, Bernardo22 seemed inexhaustible at times (which even in PES makes a world of difference compared to basically any other RMF-capable left footed creative playmaker).

In real life the stamina bar is less computed, though, and he already played AMF and CMF at Sunderland, and many games, no? So......

Amad at wingback and Garnacho as one of the 10s feels like a misuse of their dynamics but let’s see how things go

what dynamics? Garnacho is effective closer to their goal and is virtually useless in a defensive situation, he doesn’t track back, doesn’t tackle etc Amad for me suits the WB position more due to his work rate.

    It's not. Sporting's RWB was a left-footed attacking wide player. It's 1-to-1 almost a perfect fit.
What's stranger to me is having both wingbacks cutting in. I was under the impression that usually one would have their strong on the outside at Sporting. Given they're the only real wide players in this system, I'm a bit worried about the middle getting clogged.

On a side note people should remember the 343 is also played with a diamond. That's how Cruijff would often setup Barcelona.

Haven't been this excited for a United game in a while, hopefully we will at least get a glimpse of the kind of football we can expect from now on.

If you look at the average player position at Sporting, the RWB is quite high up the pitch. Almost level with the LAM

That's a very odd looking first lineup for a manager who supposedly likes intensity and effort.

John O'Shea CB according to Jamie Rednkapp. Could be a long afternoon.

Really looking forward to this one. Hopefully the start of a new era. I just want to see a good performance.

Lineup is a bit surprising, not so much in the formation but the actual personnel. Didn't really Martinez would miss this and I thought we'd see Yoro on the bench. He seems a little bit like he has favoured players not in international duty in some areas.

Ipswich is a better team than the table suggest. Hopefully we can start winning, it's key for Amorim.

It's not Neville on Sky commentary! Still got the poetry of the other twat, but off to a good start.

In my honest personal view this is the best set up to play attacking football but of course you have to have quality players for that goal..
