I'd like to see Memphis given a start

No! No nonsense and experiments atm. We must keep going and build on the latest results, keeping the confindence high before the derby.
And some predictions are really unrealistic here. Before the Soton game I read some things like 4-0, 5-0, ... Same now vs Hull. It will not be a walk in the park on a sunny day, so I don't mind if we are winning by 1 goal. So guys, keep your feet on the ground and enjoy the situation atm.

Just the one change I think, although I'm sure Jose wants to get Smalling some game time.

I am hoping Mourinho goes in with more pace in the middle and out wide, drop rooney and mata, maybe martial since he needs a rest.
What Martial needs, after not featuring in the Euros and starting the preparation much later, is to play to get sharp and fit, not to rest, quite the opposite.

The question to that is: will Smalling be his first choice against City? If so, he should've had more minutes already. I think the manager will stick with Bailly/Blind for now.

The thing is Smalling couldn't play until yesterday as he was late back due to his holiday injury and then suspended for the PL opener. Of course we have an irritating International break coming up so he might get 2 sets of 90 minutes under his belt there and Jose will ease him back in post-City.

Sure, but if he was an absolute starter, an undroppable, the manager would have give him a starting spot against Southampton already.

Jose seems to like the Bailly-Blind partnership. I think he will stick with it. :)

We should really be winning this one comfortably. As someone posted above, win this and we will be in a great position going into the international break - with City at OT next.

My only change would be Mkhitaryan in for Mata.

I think Blind and Bailly compliment each other well, wouldn't disrupt that just yet. Smalling was a beast for the majority of last season but he had a few shockers towards the end and never quite fills me with confidence - you just know there's a brainfart round the corner.

Win here and we couldn't be in a better position to go into an International break.
One advantage we have over city is we don't have any main players from South America. So our players won't have to travel half way around the world. Playing them immediately after the international break should give us an edge.

Is our first game vs City after the break?! Shit me. That's going to be heavy.

At least it's so early on in the season - if we lose, it's not as significant to the table as it should be.

It is. September 10 at Old Trafford. The three points won't make a big difference but the psychological impact of that result can be huge. It could set the tone for the rest of the Season. Don't know why but I'm feeling pretty confident about this one.

People are getting too carried away. If we take Hull for granted then they'll get a draw at worst
We won't take beating Hull for granted, but we should at least be brimming with confidence. We're massive favourites and rightfully so

Hull aren't quite the relegation certs in turmoil that the media have been presenting for weeks, and today made 2 wins for them as well.

However, we need to be putting these teams away if we have an eye on the league

Just an FYI We'll have 7 days rest. Hull will only be on 3 days, as they have to play Exeter in the League Cup Tuesday.

feck off, an international break already?

    So annoying.
It's the same very season - a few games in August, then it stops for two weeks in September for internationals, then there's another two weeks of internationals in October, and then finally two weeks in November. Only after that can we forget about internationals until March and get on with the domestic game. This time of year basically we just have to get through it as best we can

Why the feck is there an international break already. Barely anyone gives a toss about internationals, it's just completely pointless and unnecessary.

    Isn't this one WC qualifying?

Yeah still rubbish though I'm pretty sure everyone would chose club over country (I mean fans). Who the feck actually wants to go to Russia anyway after all the fights their fans caused at euros.

Next 2 world cups are utterly pointless.

Much like our first two games, it could be tricky.

They'll have gained lots of confidence from their results, but we want to be getting the three points from games like this.

There is always an international break at that time.

    De Gea
    Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw
    Fellaini, Pogba
    Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Martial
    Zlatan

Pogba to have a fantastic game and Mkhitaryan to finally settle into the team. Mkhi will give us much needed pace on the right side which we lacked with Mata so we should play better.

    2-1 United.

Fellaini should be rewarded for playing so well.

I also hope that in this game we dont invite pressure as much as we did against southampton because at times they were extremely dangerous and shouldve probably scored.

It's annoying though, isn't it? I have absolutely no interest in watching England decimate San Marino for the hundredth time.

I don't like international football but I'm used to it now.

Mata the fall guy again? Unbelievable

    Mata

Mata the fall guy again? Unbelievable
Maybe because he didnt do anything against Southampton and Rooney actually contributed to the game? Hes not undropable you know. A better player than him deserves to show what hes got for the team.

Tournaments are decent still, so I suppose it's just a necessary evil to have the qualifiers etc.

Internationals were best when they were the best teams though. You can't say most international teams would beat the best club teams anymore. And the champions league is surely a higher standard.

Has it had its day? Probably.
