I think the manager's going to keep picking his strongest side to build up some momentum. Many of the players will get a decent amount of rest over the international break, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two big names on the bench at the weekend due to 4 yellow cards and Arsenal then next. As we're away from home, I think Carrick may play as an extra midfielder:

    De Gea
    Darmian Blind Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Carrick
    Mata Pogba Rashford/Martial
    Zlatan
No doubt those big players will have time to rest till the Istambul game, but the same cannot be said about the following against Swansea. If Mourinho follows you're logic it will be because he's going for broke, just really desperate for a victory.

Also, as things stand in the Premier League, I honestly see no chance he'll rest players against Swansea just to save them from getting a yellow.

If we're worried about Mkhitaryan's form and mental fragility (if there's one, call it low confidence, whatever) then Fenerbahce away would be the last place I'd play him.
Maybe some shock treatment is exactly what the doctor ordered.

We still have to wait and see who will join from the CL.
Even of those that at the moment are likey to join after Xmas we should have nothing to fear. I don't mean it'll be easy, just that the rest will fear us as much as or more than we fear them. Benfica, Oporto and Besiktas seem the main danger. Of course it is a knock-out and anything can happen.

With Feyenoord playing at home, we need to win to remain with plans of topping the group.

So Fenerbache and ourselves are joint top on 6 points. If we win in Turkey that should mean we pretty much be qualified.

I don't think Pogba, Zlatan, Rashford should travel though.

We can field Rooney, Martial (if fit), Depay, Fellaini and still get the 3 points.

Looking at the top 4 clubs, it's going to be difficult to make up those 7 points. None of them look likely to dip at the moment. Traditionally. Arsenal go through a rough period at some point in the season so they may be our best hope. On the other hand, when did they last fail to qualify for the CL ?

I wasn't as impressed as some by our performance againt Fener, at least until the penalties came along. Before those penalties, we hadn't done much apart from have lots of possession. Our first clear opportunity was an excellent pass to Rooney, who failed to control the ball. Then came two penalties. After the break they pressed quite hard and we got a third goal on the counterattack.

I expect a tough game on Thursday so I think we'll have to play our strongest team. Provided we get a point we'll be on course to qualify, but obviously we want to go through top of the group. Thank god Sevilla are unlikely to be in the EL this year !
They all still have to play each other, most of them twice. It's mathematically guaranteed they'll be dropping points. The key is for us to make sure we're in a position to capitalise, which we haven't done so far.

Half the games in Europa League are at 6 and half at the later slot. United manage to wrangle the three games at the later slot thankfully, but there was no guarantee of it,

How come I've never noticed this trend before? It makes sense when you think it through.

    Thanks.
Think we complained that 6pm wasn't possible for home games due to traffic etc. Remember it being an issue against Liverpool. Maybe they've agreed to give us all home games for that time.

Honestly man, please let other people make Match day threads. Its a superstition thing, but just give it a try. We have had feck all luck since you ve made them. No slight on you but let someone else do it. Just give it a try, if results dont improve you can take over again.

On the match, Play mkhi please fecking score. Give Ibra a rest maybe that will help him regain his form. Play Pogba as he finally seems to be getting on his game and disrupting that would be bad. Just win.

Maybe you could think this looking at the list of Players. Anybody having watched us Play this season (or the ones before) might disagree.
That's true. I have no delusions about our play at the moment. But the others are not better,I'd say. If Sevilla were to be knocked out of the CL, I'd change my tune. But I think we can win it. Can, that is. Not will. Daft penalties or silly red cards can ruin everythng.

I agree with what you say but I would qualify it.

    MU v Chelsea (A), Pool(A), City(H) = 1 point
    Pool v Arsenal (A) Chelsea(A) MU(H) = 7 points.
2 points from home games against Stoke, Burnley.

As things stand we are unable to sustain a good run, also we could get 13 out of the next 15 points and still not dent Arsenal's lead. And our goal difference is 1, Chelsea's 12.

Having said that, favourable results over 3 games and we could be league leaders. Some years ago we lost a seven point lead over three games.

I agree mate, which is why I said it's key we capitalise, which we haven't done thus far. I think it'll turn though eventually, we're playing well enough to suggest it's round the corner.

Yep, we've put in some of good performances, the type that say things will get better, not worse.

Do the Turks still meet the team at the airport with "Welcome to hell" banners and chants of "No way out"?

Herrera obviously starts. Please play Morgan with him and see how they do together. Save Carrick for the Swans. Keep Pogba going, thought he looked tired at the end of Burnley though.

I'll be interested to see how we screw up yet another away game.

Love to see a controlled performance. Hoping for some minutes for Martial and Mkhitaryan.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick
    Schneiderlin Herrera
    Mkhitaryan Rashford Martial
A comfortable one or two nil win.

It wil be a very difficult game. Draw would be a good result.

Jones makes the squad but Memphis doesn't.

Smalling and Baily being injured means we have more space for a CB. Carrick not making it is a bigger surprise than Memphis. Maybe means he will take Herrera's place against Swansea.

Saving Carrick for Swansea makes sense. I hope one or both of Martial and Micki start
