26.02 If any doubt arises as to the condition of the field of play after the visiting team’s departure from home, the referee decides on the spot whether or not it is fit for play

26.03 If the match cannot commence for whatever reason (e.g. condition of the field of play), it must be played either the next day or on a reserve date or other date set by the UEFA administration. A decision must be taken within two hours of the decision to cancel the match, in consultation with the two clubs and the associations concerned. In case of dispute, the UEFA administration fixes the date and kick-off time of the match. Its decision is final.

The ref will be under huge pressure from UEFA to get the match done.

If the match does get postponed, when will it take place?
At this time of year, the weather is "normal", so even if they delay it for a week or few days, the condition of the pitch will likely remain the same (ie. frozen).
The only way to get around this is to play it in another country.

The other question is, was the last Zorya game played on a frozen pitch? Perhaps it is normal. If so, UEFA will argue that if they can play their league games on a frozen pitch, the EL games can also be played there.

Problem with that rule is that the weather there is not going to get any warmer, it isn't just a bit of a cold snap, that is how their weather is, so how do you decide on a new date? They would actually have to play it in another place.

We can't play it Friday as we're playing Sunday in the PL and we can't play it next week as we've got Palace on Wednesday.

Just call it a point each

Don't they not play in Russia and Ukraine this time of the year?

Even if the games is played, it will be a nightmare, rock hard pitch, below zero temps, will turn the game in to a lottery.
The way it looks now , I will settle for coming away without any serous injuries.
We only need a point ? Am I right.

This doesn't sound good at all.

We're looking at either an injury risk of a pitch, or a postponement that will cause absolute chaos.
Hopefully it's playable, no injuries, and we get through it.

They really have to look at the scheduling a bit more wisely.
For these teams that are so far east, they either need to make sure they play the home fixtures as early as possible, or arrange a contingency of a different venue, and monitor in the week beforehand.

How the hell do the Ukrainian league players play on pitches like this throughout the season?

A point to qualify, that's right. Common sense should have dictated that we played the away game in the Ukraine first, then the game at OT tomorrow, but when did common sense ever prevail?

It's nice that Tottenham are fielding their strongest team tonight, so that the physical toll won't be so different come Sunday.

I don't know. A deep frozen pitch that's like rock is much worse than some surface snow (like was the case in the Tromsø - Chelsea game that's always brought up in these situations).
Anyhow, before the team went to the pitch, it was covered and being heathen, so it might not be that bad.

The worst is not the worst scenario: play and tire the first team, injure some and lose the game with an awfully demoralizing performance… but still qualify.

If the pitch inspection is at 10am local time and the nighttime has been the forecast -8, the pitch is already frozen, I would of thought chances of the game being on are 50/50 at best for the game being on.

    This is my fault guys.

I booked tickets to a show for 6pm tomorrow so I was set to miss the game. And this is Gods way of letting me watch both because he loves me

Just play out a bore draw. I honestly couldn't care less about the performance. Just get back in one piece, and with qualification in the bag.

All this time I thought Zorya were Hungarian.

We can't play out bore draws. We will concede. Just go out and blast them away then sub off whoever needs a rest ahead of the weekend.

Can't be that difficult to have some artificial heated lights over the pitch, surely? Or are they such a small club that they don't have such equipment?

December game in the Ukraine--come on UEFA! I hear Chernobyl is nice this time of year. They just put up a new roof on the reactor...I mean stadium last month. Maybe the game can be played there.

Is there a good reason Zorya would even try hard in this match considering they are last in the group with only two points? This could very well end in a boring 0-0 draw.
