I'm getting up at 5:45am for this. Better be worth it.

Where they ever early for champions league games? Thought it was just the UEFA cup/ europa league. Can't really remember to be fair.

Yes. There was definitely early kick offs in CL games. Man City drew 2-2 exactly 1 year to the day last season away versus CSKA and it was a 5pm kick off.

I've spent like 18 seconds to find the LVG pre-match press confrence on the Caf. Anyone?

    Hope to see :
    ----------------DDG------------
    Valencia--Smalling-Blind--Rojo
    ---------Carrick--BFS----------
    Mata------Fellaini-----Memphis
    -----------Rooney-------------

Should do the job and we could rest Darmian, Martial, Jones and Morgan for the City game

Would like us to rest Martial, bring Memphis back in as he's done well in CL so far.
Smallingbauer could be rested with Blind brought back in but i'd rather him and Jones develop their relationship more.

Just don't drop Herrera, Schneiderlin or Mata.

Not an easy fixture by any means, but if the players approach game in the right frame of mind and we don't p*ss about too much, we should get a win...

Wednesday 21 October 2009, United went to Luzhniki Stadium and played an early kick-off with the following team:

    VDS
Neville - Ferdinand (Brown) - Vidic - Fabio (Carrick)
    O'Shea - Anderson
Valencia - Scholes (Owen) - Nani
    Berbatov

(PIG, Evans, Macheda, Daat Guy Welbz)

United won the game 0-1 thanks to a late strike by the Ronaldo replacement Antonio Valencia.

Wednesday 21 October 2015, six years on, Valencia is still going strong, dominant as ever, leading from the front and is one of only two survivors from the squad that travelled to Russia that day.

    Rooney
    Memphis - Herrera - Lingard
    Schneiderlin - Carrick
    Rojo - Smalling - Jones - Valencia
    De Gea

Think that's a decent side to play away in Europe, keeps Bastian, Martial, Darmian and Mata fresh for the derby. Can always bring them on as subs if we need to pick up a goal or shut down the game.

This is actually the first UCL game this season I will be able to watch, I've been at work for the other ones.

...but I've taken a day's holiday just for today, because feck you work.

    :D like it!

Played 12 and still haven't lost in the league. Impressive. Their attack looks quite good, but I think we should be able to get at those old guys in defense, feels like Ignashevich and the Berezutski-brothers have played for a 100 years. The pace of Martial and Memphis if he plays could hurt them.

This isn't the game to rest anyone.

    DDG
    Darmian-Blind-Smalling-Rojo
    Schneiderlin-Carrick
    Mata-Herrera-Martial
    Rooney

Rooney drops more when he plays up top so it's almost like playing 2 strikers.

We need this win equally as much as the City game. We play West Brom and Watford mid/late Nov. That'll be the time we should rest some players. Till then, nose to the grindstone boys. Put our best XI out there.

Disappointed we didn't get that as well then. Guess they need to think about our viewing figures and not Citys!

Also, on a plastic pitch tonight, playing at 1 degree and until nearly midnight. Phil Jones is definitely getting injured.

I assumed it would be even colder at that time.

I don't really understand how it's practical for local fans to watch their team until midnight during midweek. There would be an outcry in the UK.

Tony our only scorer and survivor :(

    Decent team that.

Ando looks like he's just spotted a potential victim carrying some burger and chips that he can mug later.

Haven't got a clue what the teams going to be tonight tbh. With City up next will LVG rest anyone, or just play full teams for both matches? That does seem to be his plan so far this season, with very little rotation.

He might rotate in the cup next week.

Can't work out who LVG will go for in the forward 4 options out of Rooney, Martial, Depay, Mata and Herrera. For now I'm leaving Herrera out despite his performance against Everton.

    Aye, that's some team.

Neville looks right up for it, Scholes just looks like he doesn't care - but no doubt still bossed it that night. Rafael looks like he's sitting on the toilet constipated.

Ando was actually really very good for a time, but long term consistency was always his problem.

    Have gone for:

    -------------De Gea
    Darmian--Smalling--Jones--Rojo
    ----Schneiderlin---Schweinsteiger
    -------------Herrera
    Mata---------------------Martial
    -------------Rooney

Though wouldn't surprise me to see Memphis start, has done well in CL so far.

I've gone for the same but with Memphis starting instead of Herrera.

Same but Carrick over BFS. Obvious rotation policy.
